The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Right decided to make my a9 as compact as I can for those days I just want go very light instead of getting a Fuji 100f. So which prime lens should I look at pls

Sony 35mm f2.8 or the Samyang equivalent.

PS.
If you don't mind manual focus the e mount Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 is about the same size as the Sony 35mm f2.8.

Zeiss 35mm f2.8, then it's waterproof as well (y)

Found it hmm looks good

It’s tiny and light. AF’s not super fast but fast enough for a walkabout. Nice and sharp.

Ouch a pricey lens

Just take your Sony A9 + 28-75mm our more as it’s a relatively small setup for what it offers?
I had the A9 + 35mm, 55mm and 85mm f1.8 setup but it’s quite a big setup to lug around both in terms of value and mass.
If your looking for a prime setup then that’s what I would go with, the 1.8 trio. [emoji4]

For the amount it’ll cost for a Sony FE 35mm, you could pickup a used / grey Fuji X100F.
Food for thought.

Buying a Fuji and keeping the A7/9 is duplication though and an A7/9 with a 35mm f2.8 IMO isn't significantly bigger than a Fuji for me as both wouldn't be pocketable for me and therefore would need to go in a bag and if they're going in a bag might as well take the A7/9.

This is the problem I have with MFT now. I might as well use my A7 unless I'm using a wider or longer lens which would make a FF camera and lens package bigger.

In that case it’ll have to be the FE 35mm f2.8, but as you’ve shown interest on the Fuji thread, the Fuji X100F is still a good option as it’ll give you the 35mm focal length and you’ll get to scratch your Fuji itch :)

But an A7/9 will better a Fuji for image quality (if you go looking) and possibly for focus speed too. I've never used a Fuji but from what I've read the lens isn't great and the camera doesn't focus all that quickly? Is this true?

Get an lea4?

"Problem is severe lack of disposable income to divert to camera gear - so it's going to be a stretch finding the cash for an A7iii (I definitely want the larger batteries) and LEA3, adding an LEA4 would be a step too far. "

Buy an LA-EA4 INSTEAD of the 3.

Yeah, they are all sh*te and I don’t know why we bother :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: That said I’m sure my X100 cameras focus faster than an A7 with a manual lens!!! In all seriousness I did say to @rookies on the Fuji thread that he should stick with what he has and just use it more

You do talk crap in this thread don't you David.

And a PS David.
After your recent posts in this thread I just can't take you seriously. IMO you're not funny you're just irritating and a borderline troll and why you seem so obsessed with my manual lenses I just don't know or now care. Sorry :D

It’s not really a duplication if he kept the A9 and didn’t go for a FE 35mm lens. Rookies doesn’t have the A7 so that’s out of the picture.
The A9 and Fuji X100 series shouldn’t be compared, and for me, I see no duplications.... :)

He could have both camera’s as both have their advantages & disadvantages. The Fuji would be a cheaper and smaller 35mm f2.0 setup to carry about too.
The Fuji X100 offers something different.

I only brought it up as he’s been interested in the Fuji recently as he’s PM’d asking questions about it etc.
This way he can try out the Fuji and retain his Sony gear and then re-evaluate, worst case he can always get a 35mm f2.8 and ditch the Fuji.

There are only two small Sony FF setups, the Sony A7 + 35mm f2.8 and the Sony RX1R II, both are very dated bodies now and one costs £2999!!
I doubt he’d want a old A7.

What I meant was an A7 or A9 style body as I know Andrew has an A9. I don't see any significant size difference between the Sony A7x/9 (is that better?) range and the Fuji as none of these things are IMO pocketable. So I see no real advantage in either, size wise.

Going for an additional Fuji will mean having two cameras when one will do and that is duplication.

The Fuji is thinner but wouldn't be pocketable for me and if it needs to go into a bag I'd rather take an A7/A7x/A9 and a 35mm f2.8.

I can see the point of adding a Fuji if the point is gear fondling and trying different stuff and there's nothing wrong with that but if I had an A9 I wouldn't be adding a fixed lens Fuji, I'd fit a 35mm f2.8 to my A9 and be happy :D

Over to you Andrew, it's make your mind up time :D

Well, as my manual lenses are all he seems to talk about in this thread he's getting on my man boobs.

I'll be nice to someone at some point in the future. I promise :D

Perhaps, but everybody is different and sometimes want different things from photography etc :)

I’ve been through this phase myself and I am still wrestling in trying to get back into it again.
One things for sure, I much prefer to fondle my Fuji compared to my Sony LOL :D

That's an amazing price, cheaper than what I paid on e-infinity a few weeks ago.
It's a very good lens from what I've judged so far, I've been using it for practicing video.

At that price it's maybe rude not to.

One thing I worry about with more expensive fixed lens cameras is dust bunnies. I know they're less likely but the thought of not being able to easily clean the sensor if it happened worries the ocd in me.

I did break my own rule and but a Panasonic TZ100 just because I wanted a camera with a 1" sensor to fondle but that is just about coat pocketable.

I guess it can be a issue with some bodies, mine is weather resistant so you’d hope no dust bunnies get in, if they do it’ll be off to the service centre.

Whichever route Rookies decides to go down, it doesn’t matter, as long as he’s happy :)
