The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Where are you going Jonathan? Aren't you worried about not getting back home or being held for two weeks when you got back? Lock down isn't too far ahead, my kids schools have already set up remote working from home stuff for the kids for when the schools are told to close.

I have just cancelled two trips I had planned for myself.

I'm going to Cornwall. I'm hoping there won't be travel restrictions on the roads or anything as severe as that. Most likely we'll go back in the summer and maybe at Christmas. I'm hoping to move there in the not too distant future as life priorities are changing.

We went abroad 4 times last year and Cornwall for Xmas. having just got a dog, decided a few months ago that we wouldn't leave the country this year unless it's for business (unlikely that will happen now anyway in the current situation).

I think we are probably a long way of road ristrictions etc so hopefully you will be grand.

I had to cancel a trip to Austria and our family holiday.

I’m off to Mexico very soon, but if we cancel we can’t claim anything back, or even postpone it without losing 100%. It’s not a cheap holiday either :(

We fell lucky with ours only lost the deposit cost on my Austria trip and got a full refund for our family holiday.

Feel for anyone thats in your position it's hard to know what to do in that situation. Flights may be banned before you go so you would get a refund then.

I am trying to stay on the side of caution personally as my eldest and my Mum both have health issues and would be at risk. On the other hand they could just as easy get sick here but I am trying to limit the risk as much as possible.

That is rather unfortunate. Perhaps take a calculated risk, things aren't too bad in Mexico - only 15 cases with 4 recovered and 11 active. Doesn't look to be spreading much either.

I think the biggest problem is being put into quarantine on return. For us we only had a two week window for our family holiday as we have a lot of work on when we get back. Although a lot of that could now be cancelled or put back.

From a completely selfish point of view I’m not concerned about getting the virus as my respiratory and immune system health is pretty good, but I’d hate to get it and pass it on to someone vulnerable. Also, being essentially self employed having to be in quarantine for two weeks is not something I want to think about.

I don’t know where you’re more likely to catch it though, I’m not sure there’s any more risk going away than there is living my day to day life. For example I had to call in at Meadowhall last night, probably as likely to get it in a place like that as anywhere else.

I don't think he'd be put into quarantine if he travelled back from Mexico as per today's status. It is of course a risk hence I suggested taking a calculated risk and hoping it doesn't go from 15 to 15,000 when he is on holiday.

I think probably the biggest chance of geting it would be in the airport with so many people travelling in and out. Mexico only seems to have quite few cases so you would imagine would be safe enough.

Crap situation though as am sure you were looking forward to the trip, I know we where for ours. Our kids are gutted.

Yeah thats more what I mean't, nobody knows but I don't think we are too far away from anyone flying back in being put into quarantine regardless of where they are flying from and it probably makes sense to do so. I actually donlt think we are that far away from all flights being cancelled.

I am not sure what the policy is such cases where the government cancels all flights. Do people get a refund? if so who pays? Large airlines would probably do ok but smaller ones may not survive if they have to refund all the cancelled flights.

Black Kite taken from Victoria Peak, Hong Kong today. Only had the small jpeg sent to phone from imaging edge , looking forward to getting the raw of this on a my computer. [emoji846]DSC05053.jpeg

Just returned from a holiday near Puerto Vallerta on the Pacific coast of Mexico... No issues whilst we were there. Took the Sony 24-104 F4, 24 F1.2 and the Batis 40 F2... the 24-105 stayed on my A7Riii for 90% of the time...

Enjoy your time in Mexico if you manage to get there.

The airline / travel company wil have to cover the refunds, many will go bust they are already operating on low margins. They won't be the only ones either, tens of thousands of small businesses will go.

There isn't a photographer in the country right now who isn't massively concerned, I know a girl who owns a very busy portrait studio every single booking in her diary has been cancelled for the next month or so she can only go a couple of months before havingto shut up shop as she won't be able to cover her costs. Another freind owns a cafe with a kids soft play area yesterday she had one customer all day, again she can only sustain her costs for a short time before having to shut up shop. All wedding related businesses are at huge risk with huge amounts of couples cancelling or changing there dates.

All retail stores will suffer apart from supermarkets etc as people won't spend becauise of the uncertain climate.

There’s talk of BA being in dire straights so not just all small airlines.

Some T&C of cheap tickets does not entitle you to claim anything back even under force majeure. Any changes subject to Admin charge and if you bought the ticket via an agent, there will be another agent charge as well.

Pair of numpties?

Ridiculous thing to say, I was simply defending myself from someone that took a dig because they got offended over me trying to help them out.

I’m far from a numpty, thanks.

I'm sure you are Tom. I took Omars post as being more general.

Anyway, it's a new day so how about a new start and good debate and laugh with all good intentions :D

We're just about to walk to the shops but I don't think there's any point taking a camera as the light is dead here. I could always sit in CS5 and try to make something moody and contrasty in B&W I suppose :D

haha.

We'll walk down here and the chances are that we wont see any other people until we get to the shops.

This was taken during rush hour.

I've had to cancel my trip to Vietnam due to go next Sat....

My Samyang 85mm f1.4’s arrived today and will be going back. In AF-C it works fine but in AF-S it struggles to find focus and misses 8/10 times, often by quite some margin (waits for the “I told you so” from f2.8 ;))

Plus it’s bigger than it looks online, not really ‘comfortable’ room for my fingers between the grip and lens. Think I’ll look at the Sony f1.8 instead.

I just so happen to have the fe 85 1.8, it'll be going up for sale :)

Yup like my Sony 85mm 1.8

Sorry but to be fair I did. :ROFLMAO:

The FE85 is great if you like a fast focusing lens and don’t mind the slightly ugly bokeh, if you want that creamy bokeh you will need the G.M.

I have both and like both.

Love my little Sony 85 1.8, and mentions of the Sigma 35 a few pages back. I love that lens so much, I wish it was a touch lighter and smaller but it’s so good optically.

I never use AF-S, and I love the creamy boken from the Sammy, even if the lens itself is enormous. At least it's not heavy.
