The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

That’s the part I don’t get with Nikon. Why research and develop a fast F mount telephoto zoom that’s £9.5k? If that was a mirrorless mount they would be onto a winner because no one else has one. It’s not like sigma had already done this lens several years back

I can understand still developing DSLRs but not F mount lenses. Canon seem to be on the right track stopping EF Mount lens development and manufacturing to concentrate on mirrorless lenses.

If Nikon got their PF lens technology into some telephoto mirrorless lenses they would have a big advantage that may attract mirrorless wildlife photographers.

I've done some work for Japanese manufactures, not camera kit though, and they can be very... what's a good word... insular, maybe, in that they become convinced that they're right and everyone else is wrong and even if getting stick/alternative views from every direction they'll just take on the room and doggedly fight what seems to be an indefensible position. Maybe it's another example of not wanting to lose face.

I question their priorities too but as there's no penalty for adapting F to Z then it's not the worst idea for them to proceed with something they've probably been working on for a while and is intended for a niche market.

I went out today too, only got as far as Morrisons and only had my phone for photos.
Got a bargain for Mrs Sprout.

So i'm going for another shower now as soon as I've picked all the petals from my clothing and cleaned up the floor.

Do you get the bucket with it?

I took Mrs WW to Signals in Saltburn. She knocked over a cactus and dropped her glove in my hot chocolate. And how come women always think anything on my plate is half for them?

They're posh, better than garage flowers, she should count herself lucky!

Ha ha, totally... Do you want the burger as a meal? No, its okay, I'll have half your chips. WTF!!

Women think food taken off other peoples plates doesn't count, they don't have the guilt of ordering it and it has zero calories.

Guys, you've not learned how to dine out right! YOU say you're not hungry first and just order a starter, then take half of their chips, pie, ice-cream, wine etc ... been working for me for years

Is the no penalty in AF performance F for adapting mount Nikon lens to the Nikon mirrorless Z’s? I didn’t know that was the case. I’m a little surprised as I would expect there to be some difference in performance and that goes for any manufacturer/system.

I know some on here have done well adapting canon lenses for use on Sony’s so maybe native lenses aren’t the big thing they are made out to be.

And you're still alive? My plate is fair game but I've never known a woman who'd stand for a man taking food off her plate uninvited.

This isn't Sony relayed but may be worth a read. The author has AFAIK ditched most if not all of his camera gear and switched to a smartphone. Here he asks is Apple should make a camera...

http://pindelski.org/Photography/2020/01/06/should-apple-make-a-stand-alone-camera/

I don't agree with his view that smartphones are better than cameras. Mrs WW shows me pictures daily that often look nothing short of stunning on her phone or tablet but I now know from experience that on my pc their shortcomings can be easy to see. So far I haven't seen a smartphone picture that compares to anything I've got from MFT never mind FF, not for image quality.

I used to read that site quite a bit but I got sick of his politics and occasional snips at the British or rather the English. It's funny how some people who emigrate realise the country that they grew up in and even sometimes the people in it are awful.

What happens is the missus goes ahead and orders way more than she can handle, as if to tease me because I'm 'no hungry' and less than half way through she hits the wall and begins asking if I'd like to try some - 'hmm, ok, just a wee taste' ... nom, nom, nom, nom .... guess I was hungry after all ... oh how she laughs :D

I’m sure there’s is a tiny difference but so far I’ve not noticed any discernible difference tbh.

From what Ive read the Z adapter shows limitations in AFC during bursts, it loses focus.

this is basically the area all adapters suck at. in AF-S single shot everything works quickly and nicely.

Thats what I thought but some say its native (also Canon RF/EF), to me native means as good in all scenarios.

I just looked in the Nikon thread... Jesus wept... Reading stuff like that makes me want to step away from forums. I suppose it's no worse than goes on in cars, hifi and any other area of interest though.

Adapted may not be 100% native but good enough for most people but the lenses wont improve and as mirrorless tech improves and resolutions and everything else goes up the shortcomings in the older DSLR lens designs will be there to be seen for those who care. The future for those who want the best will no doubt be with newer lenses specifically designed for the new cameras. The only questions are timescales and the spec we'll each settle for.

I believe EF/RF and EF/eos-m adapters are actually as good as native and possibly the only ones.

Actually LA-EA1/3 is very close to native with SSM lenses. Tracking works rather well but you can't use TCs which is a weird crap limitation.

Is it only the LA-EA4 that has the focus area limitation and I think F5.6 in video?

When I was in the computer industry I saw some very strange compatibility issues, they can be things that only show up in specific instances and sometimes only after a specific sequence of events and are sometimes very difficult to sort out. Cameras are complex things now and I'm not surprised that these issues are being seen.

It's another argument for avoiding adapters. There'll always be little bugs and quirks but adapting and adding stuff can only complicate it all.

eGglobalcentral have let me down with my flash order. Anyone selling a flash for Sony? (Wanted ad in classifieds)

I think things like that are fair comment, we all have different opinions. Whether you see it or not does that make it wrong? I think a number of things have character or whatever you want to call it (including cars, and hifi’s), am I delusional? ;) :p

Hummm thats a bit disappointing...

He took quite a hump when he was asked to retest using a different copy.

It is by no means a perfect lens, especially considering the cost of it but it is rather good.
