The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Hahahahahahaha.

Try reading my last post again Keith. Slowly if you have to.

Actually I don't want to get into a slanging match with you, I know you have a shorter fuse than a Lidl firework :)

I own a Sony A7ii AND an A7Rii mate.

I'm talking about Gandalf not you - and then Snerkler, my net had a brain fart somewhere and messed up the quotes is all :D fixed it now, see how it actually makes sense, none of my post had anything to do with you - dont know wtf happened there - try wrap your head around that .... s-l-o-w-l-y

The fact you didn't even notice the break made no sense ... go you and your 2 old toy cameras :P [joke ... I do fancy the A7R2]

On the fuse thing - not even close in this thread, I'm merely a placid sheep

A lot of Fuji lenses are cheap, you're just thinking on the fancier ones. The Sony in question here is a LOT pricier than an XH1 [or even I might own one] - like I said, reason 1: price. Maybe he wants to save some cash by selling the A7RIII? this is why none of us can really suggest, not enough info, and all that other mine is better than yours BS ...

Also, why don't you own a Sony already since you live in here and seem to sing their praises so much? :p
I think you can find cheap (ish) lenses for both systems tbh (y)

And why don’t I have a Sony? Because I’ve always preferred the Nikon alternative, but it doesn’t stop me appreciating how good the Sonys are (y)

And Cashback available on both on the Sony site. I wonder if the Cashback is still available via amazon.

A lot of companies don't allow cashback when purchased from Amazon as the stock can sometimes be grey, so wouldn't be guaranteed. Would only trust Amazon for cashback if it specifically mentioned it on Amazon which they sometimes do, in this case they don't.

Amazon are worth keeping an eye on at the moment though they had the 24-70 f/2.8 GM for £1200 yesterday on the German Amazon site.

It does specifically say it is eligible on the product page.

But then I'd have to sell my 85GM. There's two already in sales and they aren't exactly flying off the shelf at the moment lol

Why? I have both and use them for different things.

Bad time of the year to be trying to sell any high value items.

Is anyone looking for the A7S III seems like it is coming now after all as the rumour site has a photo of one, looks chunky.

Probably nothing to read into, but I seen this posted in a Facebook group this morning and someone commented that the lens is a new 35mm F/1.2 GM and a couple of the Sony reps liked the comment. There was then a load of comments asking them if that was right and they haven't responded, they could have just been taking the p*** though. Having spoke to the reps before they don't get that much of a heads up on new products. Plus the lens has no aperture dial.

Already got the 85mm f1.8 but that Zeiss 16-35mm f4 is rather tempting, if only I didn't have my GM lenses!
Like somebody said, bad time of the year to be selling high value items.

I'm tempted with the 16-35mm f4.....

Not a big fan of the 16-35 f/4 tbh much prefer the Tamron 17-28 I have now.

Yes, but why buy a pro-spec, expensive body and then stick the cheapest lenses on it? Seems a bit of a waste to me, you may as well just opt for one of Sony's cheaper offerings. And then the comparison to Fuji is much closer.

Are the Samyang lenses any good?
I'm not a pro by any means and have spent most of my life using mainly kit lenses.
The 28-70 kit lens that came with my A7ii I find perfectly acceptable.
Ultimately I'd like the best lenses if I had the money.
I'd probably aim for 24-105 for general use and 200-600 for birds etc.
For the price of the 24-105 I could get at least 2 samyangs.
Any thoughts or experiences welcome.

Could you not say the same about the Fuji? Anyway we're getting off topic, the OP asked which one 'we'd' keep and I gave my opinion based on what I'd do, no budget or anything else was mentioned (y)

I only have experience of ultrawide 14mm f/2.8 which is great.

Not really, the cheaper lenses are known to be good/excellent performers. Look at the new Tamrons and the Arts, even the 85 1.8 is a very good performer, none are very expensive. The X-Pro3 costs as much as my A7iii cost at launch and the XH1 was similar money at launch. So the other way to look at it could be, why by an apsc setup new for the same price or more as a FF setup when new.

If I had to decided between a full-frame Sony system or APS-S Fujifilm system, the choice would be Sony, however both have positives and negatives and it really does come to what you want from a system. :)
I am still waiting to see what Fuji does with the X100V which is due out in Feb 2020. :D
However I am keeping my Sony A9 with 3 1.8 prime lenses for now, just going to shed the big expensive GM lenses to free up the cash. :)

On the subject of the Sony 85mm f1.8, it really is a belter for the money and not too far behind the bigger more expensive 85mm f1.4 G Master. I am selling the G Master. :o
