The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Hmmmmm

:)

2nd question.

With manual focus lenses will I have the quality to show off the 42MP ?

I'm certainly doing ok with 24MP

Depends on your lenses obviously. Generally speaking you won't get the improvement you'd see from a more modern FE lens but you'll see some improvement none the less.

I used lenses like OM 21/3.5, om 16mm/3.5 and OM 100mm f2.8 which all worked rather nicely on A7Rii.

Also manual focus will be easier and more accurate on the Rii.

Really? I'm finding it a doddle on the a7ii compared to the EM5 MK2

Thanks for the info sir.

@TGphoto, would you consider giving me first refusal if / when you decide to sell?

Obviously you will need to create a classified listing first to keep within the rules.

when you digitally zoom in live view or EVF to get critical focus because of the higher MP count it zooms in further than A7II. Also the EVF is sharper in Rii which makes it easier to notice the in-focus area.
Overall better experience I'd say :)

Also IBIS on Rii is better.

a7RII has lot better ISO performance than A7II which uses the dog old sensor from A99.
The high ISO performance of A7RII is still on par with latest and greatest from other brands like Z7, S1R and even A7RIV.

So if I'm impressed with the A7ii I'll be blown away with the R2? That's all you had to say.

@GreenNinja67 yes I will do.

I am really torn. My A7riii arrived from camera jungle and is in excellent condition but am unsure whether to return and keep the A7rii or not.

A7riii definitely has its benefits for me but I’ve spent a fortune in the last week and unsure whether those benefits are worth £500 extra to me or not just before Christmas :banghead:

Yes, 100%, its a massive upgrade, the initial a7 models were ime a bit meh, the 7rii really impressed, whether its the much better AF or the much better colour and image quality, I'd not realised they were going for so little. Plus adapted sigma and Canon lenses perform very well, not quite native but really good for less demanding stuff where you don't need top class auto focus.

Yep it's better in pretty much every way.

It's a good bargain indeed. For the price you can't really get a better sensor.

You sound like the type of guy whose good enough to really appreciate the benefits of the R3.

You also sound like the type of guy to sell the R2 :)

He's a honest guy ime, whoever says the A7ii is a close match for the rii needs putting in a padded room. 300 quid isn't even the cost of a decent lens, I went from a7iii which is amazing to the a9 and it cost me much more for a similar upgrade from A7ii to rii.

Tbh I'm pretty tempted, was considering an apsc update (a6400) but for similar money I might be better off getting his rii. Shame my new pc is killing my camera fund.

May be, depends on what you are after of course.

Also if you buy the A6600, you can use the same batteries with both you bodies.

A6600 loool that much for an apsc, nope nope nope. A6400 is the sweet spot, especially for some additional AF video.

Why do you think we have two kidneys when we can live on one. It's for times like this :D

I can honestly say the Sony is the best camera I've ever had so far (and I've had a few)

Don't know what it is but everything seems right about it.

I can see why they're highly regarded.

Ok let's not get carried away lol.
Don't me started on their faults. We'd here a while :p

You don't have to very far back for my anti-Sony rants lol

400 shots per battery, 2 will do. How many do you take in the average outing?
Sometimes with Z batteries I don't even take a spare (crazy i know! Lol)

With the older batteries I normally took 2 spares.

Cut out the middle man and all that sodding about and sell me the A7Riii for 850.

Job's a goodun! :)
