The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Suit's the style well.

Saw you edited with vsco aga3... didn't vsco drop support for their presets on desktop?

Thanks, yes they did I only use it on my iPad Pro for editing along with darkroom or Snapseed. When using the pc it’s adobe cc at the minute.

Anyone tried the Meike 50mm f1.7.

Was thinking it might be a nice lens for £100.

Going to pull the trigger on the A7III soon as well, down to £1740 on Amazon now.
Still not sure what to do with my A7R.

Why wouldn't you buy the Sony for a few quid more, they're usually only 150 new or 120 used? Sell the a7r if you won't need it.

I'd buy a Takumar 55mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.4 and an M42 adapter. Better lens for less money IMO

I'm going for the Sony - seems the best option for a AF fifty as the Samyang is just too expensive! Can't get on with manual lenses!

Plug - brand new A7iii in the classifieds!

Seen that, hmmm, would have to shift an XH1 and lenses and nobody is really buying used locally atm. I'm seeing all kinds of good gear advertised for weeks, nobody biting even when prices are dropped.

How is the Sony 50mm with manual focusing? Because if it's as terrible as some on here suggest then a manual focus lens might actually be better. Some of the old vintage 50mm are little crackers, for about £80 you should be able to find a nice one in good con, plus an adapter.

Yup. I have a few film era 50mm lenses my favourite at the moment being the last one I bought, a Minolta Rokkor 50mm f1.7 MD. The f1.4 version is perhaps the one that gives the most modern looking look. If going for a more characterful look there are a lot of film era lenses that could make it onto a rather long shortlist.

The Minolta MD 50 1.7 is one I would certainly consider over the Meike. You also then have the adapter which opens up more possibilities

With the adapter these lenses are about the same size as the 55mm f1.8 so hardly massive.

@NewBeetle , how is the CAF at 600mm?

Really good, more testing needed in better light but I was pleasantly surprised, compared to my Canon 70-200 it definitely feels much closer to native in performance and seems to allow all focus points and burst mode has no slow down like the Canon lens. I have updated my MC-11 to the latest firmware but not sure what version the lens is on as I don't have a Sigma USB dock. But yeah, continuous AF works well and I was at 600mm pretty much the whole time. I only tried to track a flying bird once, and this was the result. The bird is in focus, but shutter speed was a bit low due to low light. Obviously not an amazing image, but I was just making sure tracking worked.

Can't complain with my 50mm manually focusing. I am finding I'm usuing it less and less now that I have the 85 though.

The 85 is actually the first lens I would probably buy if I switched to Sony. I think that and any old wider prime would cover me for the most part, I'd adapt some nice old lenses besides, probably more on the longer end, 135, 200

Yeah I think I need a longer length to be honest when i can afford it next. Was at Brands Hatch at the weekend and was longing for my older Nikon zoom lenses

There are some bargains to be had on the tele end if you get yourself the MC-11 adapter and look at the Canon used lens market.

Yongnuo have also just released an EF-FE adapter too for $99 https://www.diyphotography.net/yong...n-ef-to-sony-e-mount-adapter-and-its-only-99/

I would wait to see some proper reviews on that though as you could probably pick up a used Sigma adapter for about £100. Like all other AF adapters though the Yongnuo is firmware upgradeable and it allows EF-S lenses to mount, unlike the Sigma [at least when it comes to Canon EF-S, they cannot physically fit without some hacking] - it also has a function button and an AF/MF switch. Interesting.

Finally updating my Sony A7 III to firmware version 3.01 and the A9 to 5.01 :D

Hope you dusted them off first.

Still cleaning them... its been quite sometime...... I think they are jealous due to the mass in-flux of Apple kit.... :D

£80 in the UK from Amazon, delivery in 2 weeks.

.......tempting, but I've never owned a Canon lens in my life. Wonder if eye-AF works?

I had never used anything by Canon [apart from a couple of vintage FD lenses] until last year, when I began adapting their lenses to M43. So when I switched to Fuji and still had the lenses made sense for me to get another AF adapter for that system. The fringer one for Fuji is a lot pricier though, goes for about £300 new. Paid £200 for mine from a used local site, but with adapters there's no difference between used or new tbh

If I ever switch to Sony I would very likely snap one of these up, again because I already have a few lenses to go with. Eye-AF works just fine with the one for Fuji, I think it's a must for any AF adapters now that they offer full control

Eye AF works with the MC-11 & my Canon 70-200L f/4

How good is that lens, it's one I've had my eye on. I have a cheapo 55-250mm atm, but the extra stop of light and I would imagine extra sharpness as it is an L, would be nice. Have seen them go for very reasonable prices too

I want another LA-EA4 adapter for Minolta A-EF. Having fiddled around with a few supposedly good lower end Nikon 70-200s over the last couple of years, when (briefly) adapted my old Mino 70-210 f4 to the A7 it reminded me that telephotos could actually be decently sharp. The beercan is just great if you have a decent copy.

Excellent lens

Might just upgrade to it. Only con I see is that the close focus distance is nowhere near as good as the cheap EF-S lens, nor is the magnification ratio. But, I can get those qualities in other lenses. I like sharper and brighter too. Pity it's white though! :D

I love it, constant aperture, internal zooming and really well made all for £370 brand new delivered. (quite a bit lighter than a f/2.8 too, it was my first zoom lens as I only really shoot primes but I'm finding I can go out with the A7 and just the 70-200 a lot of the time.)

There are a couple of little write ups about selecting prime lens line ups on The Online Photographer. Sony gets a mention.

https://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2019/05/shooting-two-formats.html

https://theonlinephotographer.typep...5/choosing-a-lens-set-and-sonys-home-run.html

Although I have more 50mm lenses than anything else and I do like them I have to say that for a line up of primes I do prefer 35 and 85 and if not a 24 them maybe something wider. I have 35 and 85mm AF lenses and 17, 19 and 24mm manual lenses.

I have been debating getting rid of my 24mm GM as I never use it, I have found 24mm not wide or long enough and it didn't replace the Sigma 20mm Art for me like I had hoped. My wife's uses it a fair bit, but was thinking of replacing it with a cheaper lens for her like the 25mm Batis and treating myself to the 135mm GM which has been calling me. :$

Any way thought I would give the 24mm some extra use at yesterday's wedding before deciding to get rid.

This thing is awesome, what ta hell was I thinking. It will be welded to one of my bodies for today and tomorrows wedding. :ROFLMAO:

The rumor site says that store owners are reporting the Panasonic S series is a total flop.

I remember reading on Thom Hogans site that Sony's market share would be taken away by Canon and Nikon once they launched their FF mirorless lines. Seems like the predictions of other people taking the market off Sony were maybe a touch premature.
