The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Must be a hell of a lot of Apple users in them there council estates :ROFLMAO:

Luckily my sound bar has wireless too, the BT only gets used when there's scrub visitors in the house

Apple uses Airplay 2, not Bluetooth.

That's not what everyone says though. All they say is it's the cheapest ever.
Wish it was.
I handled one in Wilkinson's ... nicer than the A7 but not (yet) available for £400 used :( ... yet ... :)
(For those who ever had one, it is a Panasonic G3 clone but bigger, which is a really great efficient shape!)

Their better wireless connection is airplay. It's WiFi.

I haven't used an Apple product since the original iPad mini. I went through a phase, had Apple tv, an iPhone 5 and the iPad mini .. haven't touched them since. My daughter has an iPad air, only because the school use them and she wanted her own for home use so got one for Christmas 2 years ago. This year she got a phone and requested an Android, seems she's sick of them already too :ROFLMAO:

I use both, variety of devices.

OK so took delivery of the Sony after selling my Fuji gear. First Impressions it's going to take a little while to get used to, but once I set up the C buttons I will be fine. With the Fuji everything was there on top and the menu was easier to use.

First few photos I took were blurred but I'm using the kit lens for now so I've upped the iso.

Files are a lot easier to use in lightroom and I like the colours coming out.

Excellent TBird. You probably know it already, but do check out Mark Galers YouTube channel for setting up and general advice... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCd333V2AbeUItnE_fO1zRtA

Yeah course, think there was just some apps on Android she wanted - that is what I disliked about Apple, the restrictions. Stuck with the one OS that barely changed over the years and blocked off at every turn when you try to personalise anything or use certain non Apple store apps. Android just allows more freedom

It does in a sense but Google is also forcing bloat like arcore these days and manufacturers install a ton of their own crap, at least you can manage files in the new iOS. App store is more secure and they take privacy more seriously than android devices, if that's important to the user. Pros and cons for both.

The OVO Energy Series came to a very wet Redditch Thursday, so took a stroll with the lightweight 55 for a bit of fun..

So, A7iii battery life, 1372 shots, 49% battery life remaining of a 97% charge. Thats pretty amazing.

That IS amazing, and is about 4 X what I get (I'd guess around 500-550 shots from a full charge).

I often get 2000-3000 shots when using burst mode a lot and have never reached the limit of the battery. Such a refreshing change from my previous A6000 which I used to need 3 batteries on similar days shooting.

Much does depend what you’re doing. Machine gunning the cyclists, I hardly touched the battery for 1000 shots. At the wedding last weekend, I changed the battery at 12% and had taken about that amount.

Not sure why you're getting such a low amount, it could be because your battery hasn't cycled enough yet though. I think it was over 3 1/2 hrs, mix of EVF and rear screen, photos and video, was bright out so LCD was on sunny mode. CAF, bursting but also just clicking a few at a time, I wasn't permanently machine gunning.

I read a rumour the new FW drains battery, nope.

Anyone that's got the Samyang 35mm 1.4 AF

Do you think it's loud? Especially in AF-C?

Just got one and IQ is nice, but that autofocus is loud! and in AF-C more noticeably so almost sounds a bit like constant mini electric shocks because the focus is always adjusting. Should be fine in all but silent situations but want to make sure it's normal!

I didn't think it was especially loud/annoying, chatters a bit like you said.

Try using manual mode, see if the aperture chatter stops. This was the case with a few lenses I've owned that had chatter issues. Try different combinations, set the SS manually, see if that helps, if not also set ISO manually too

Pretty sure it's the AF rather than aperture. That's just how some of the Sammys are.

AH, it was twist mentioned chatter made me think of that.

If it's constantly focusing, can't you switch off quick AF? or whatever it's called for Sony cams? stop it from focusing until you half press the shutter

Single AF fixes the issue, so that it locks focus on half-press.

Yeah, just a bit of a pain using in AF-C

To be honest, if it's normal and they're all like this then I'm not bothered. Just want to make sure it's not making noises that it shouldn't be :)

No, it's not aperture chatter like the Fuji 35

And nowhere near as loud as the Fuji 35.
I think it's because I've owned the Fuji that I've never really noticed noise from the Samyang. It does make a little noise when in AF-C though.

Try using the samyang 50mm and then you'll realise just how whisper quiet your 35mm is.

I wouldnt describe the 35 as loud, but you can definitely hear something going on.

The Fuji 35 1.4 did get a FW update though and it's supposedly a lot better since? I've heard it's much better on the XH1, faster and even quieter than it used to be. I hope so as it's what I have in mind for that cam. I think the noisiest lens I ever had was a Minolta 50mm 1.7 when I had the A200, the older Nikon 50 1.8 was pretty bad too.

Me being me been reading up on the Nikon Z6 and Z7 quite tempted to go back to Nikon.

But been trying talk sense into me and not do it and get a new me s for me a7iii

The newer firmwares for the Fuji did make a difference (latest was out before I moved from Fuji) but still not as quiet as the Samyang. The fuji never bothered me and as I said I hadn't even noticed noise from teh D=Samyang until I tried it after TGPhoto posted.

The newest body I had for Fuji was the X-T2 but I'm not sure how a newer body could quieten it further.

How you getting on with your move from fuji to your a7iii as you was a fuji user for years right?

I'm not sure the technicalities, but it's the XH1 that apparently reduced tha AF noise for that lens somehow, because it's faster on there than even on the XT2 perhaps? so the noise isn't as drawn out? No idea tbh, but I did see a couple vids showing that it was much nippier. Still ot silent of course, certainly not a lens for video. But it is so, so good for photos, I loved it on the T1

It's just another camera, they all do much the same. I'd went from Full frame to Fuji years ago and that was fine, I fancied full frame again so here I am. Might try M43 next :snaphappy:

That's probably the case. not so much quieter but far less noticeable if it finds focus faster.
I used mine a lot on Fuji so one of the first purchases I made for Sony was the 55 1.8 thinking I'd get a lot of use from it but that hasn't been the case.
