The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Just reminds me of them updating the 35 and me buying 5 or 6 copies and all of them stunk. I actually bought the 85 yesterday and quickly changed my mind lol. Seeing this confirms the AF is balls on it too

AF is certainly not their strong point but it's good that they are so actively supporting it.

On the A9 global shutter question... well well. There may well be hope for it with the A9II.

A couple from yesterday, my 20 month old grand daughter ;

Lot of people complaining about poor a.f performance on the A9 since the real time update. Anyone having issues here? Lots of people saying eye a.f is now no where near as accurate as before.

Have seen a few say similar about the a7iii on some of the fb groups.

I’ve held off upgrading mine anyway as I’m happy enough with it

Weird not seen that anywhere at all, quite a few people are complaining about the A9 post update though.

Just received a GOBE mount adapter for a C/Y mirror lens. This fits much snugger at the camera body that the Viltrox Nikon F adapter I have for my MF lenses - that even occasionally seems to light-leak. Is this just random luck or are the viltrox adapters less good than some others?

Thanks @Shoot Em Up .
It's with my Sony 24-70GM. Thinking of getting a wider and faster lens but for now this one works really well.

I have the 24-70 GM as well but I bought a Laowa 15mm f2 to try and get results like yours, but no chance in London. I need to venture further out to get away from the light pollution.

That's the lens I'm thinking of getting :)

So my financial/family situation has eased for the time being, and without going on to too much detail things are getting better but taking each week at a time.

So I didn’t have to sell my 70-200 and have bought another A7iii that is super low shutter count.

And think my last set of pics were my favourite yet. Just something about the A7iii that just gets things right!

Is there a crop mode on a7iii pretty sure I saw it once

There is, and apparently you can assign it to a button. It drops resolution to 10mp though, although this is still plenty for most things (y)

Better go and find it again lol

The Laowa 100mm f2.8 and Voigtlander 110mm f2.5 look interesting but I expect you'll want AF.

Maybe Sony were right to stick to f1.4?
Definitely, I can’t see there being much difference in DOF from f1.2 to f1.4, and will you ever be in a scenario where f1.4 isn’t letting enough light in for the ISO capabilities of modern cameras?

Oh, Canon also have the cheek to charge a further £70 for the lens hood

f1.2 lenses generally transmit around the same amount of light as f1.4 lenses. You don't buy f1.2 lens for the light you buy it for DoF. But not at that price for me anyway.

I recently got the 85GM and its heavy enough as it is. I don't want more weight either.

I think there'll be a few people buying this lens purely for the kudos. I'd never pay that much for a lens so... Good luck to them.

One last thought. Canon must have a more pro spec mirrorless body in the pipeline otherwise some of that lens Kudos could be tainted with embarrassment due to what it has to be mounted on.

One more last thought.
Weren't very wide aperture lenses originally all about the light and specifically light to allow you to fire shells by? I'm not really a fan of zero DoF, especially portraits, but I do expect to see a load of 85mm f1.2 portraits with nothing in the DoF. What Joy :D

Sell all those 35mm's and you could probably buy a couple

WHAT????

SELL????

Are you MAD???

The last 35mm I got turned up with an obvious fault on it so I sent it back and I think I've just about lost all gas now. I might have a look at any Sony 35mm f1.8 but I'm honestly not all that bothered at the moment.

The GM’s a lightweight compared to the Sigma Art too, I’m not sure why Sigma are making such heavy lenses.

Does anyone else struggle with MF and the A7iii EVF? I've tried various lenses and the focusing has been hit and miss. With focus peeking it's a bit better but then it makes it difficult to see your subject in dark scenes.
