The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Now I've been on holiday I've started looking ahead to going back to an A7 body, probably a iii. I wanted the smaller system to save on size around Florida and the A6500/Sigma lenses did a great job but I've got a bit of GAS now :0) Looking at E-Infinity prices, they're doing the body only for £1400 which is around £400 less than UK retailers, so hard to ignore. I'll probably be posting my kit on here soon to see if anyone's interested in a swap before buying new.

Why would anyone swap an A7III for an A6500?

Bit of improvement

I actually bought myself a Z7, thought it might suit me having been Nikon for so long for personal use and would allow me to get some use out of the Nikon glass I still had at the time, I hated it and thankfully was able to return it, without having to take the hit on selling it on.

I second shot a wedding for a mate who was stuck after her second fell ill a few weeks back using her gear and used her Z6, found the a.f performance very frustrating and swoped to a D750 shortly after the ceremony which I actually thought was more reliable in terms of a.f especially in low light. So much for the Z6 being great in low light I thought it was awful, hunted like anything even using the 35mm f/1.8 S. She thought the same which was why she had palmed the Z6 on to me instead of using it herself.

Just my opinion of course, but they really aren't very good and that's not even comparing to the Sony's, they aren't even that good compared to the Nikon DSLR's.

They have miles to go before they can compete with Sony, haven't used any of the new Canon's so don't know how good/bad they are.

I was honestly surprised at how poor the a.f performance was on the Z's, they are okay in decent light, I had borrowed one from another friend previously for a couple of days when they first launched and first impressions was that they where okay.

I lent the girl I second shot for a couple of A7III's and some lenses for family mini sessions, Saturday before last. She brought them back to me the day after and couldn't get over the difference. She put all her Nikon stuff up for sale straight away but hasn't had any real interest in them at all. She is giving it another few days and then she is bringing the whole lot down to W.E.X to trade in.

The ergonomics are better though.

It's a council house camera at a Hollywood mansion price.

Ok may be it was an understatement lol and it is not great in low light. EOS R is a lot better in low light and also slightly better than Sony.
But canon DPAF doesn't seem as good at tracking faster objects as Sony is.
I think part of the reason is DPAF is heavy on processing and it seems canon has a weaker processor compared to Sony and Nikon. That combined with older sensor tech means the IQ is also not as good.

But canon did recently acknowledge their sensors could do with an update and also claimed they are very good at catching up. So I am hopeful.
Also some people are correlating the rumour of 63mp EOS RF body to have a 63mp Sony sensor (though I am skeptical about that prospect)

They usually do the kit for only slightly more? What sigma lenses? I’m looking for the sigma 16mm and potentially 30mm

Maybe to downsize like anybody else who switches systems for a cheaper option, or to buy the lenses for their holiday/travel camera...didn't you buy an A6400 the other day. It would obviously be the 6500/lenses plus cash.. Not really sure what the point of your post was?

Could you let me know when you do? Potentially interested in buying all 3 depending on price. Buy not swaps though, keeping my A7iii

Will do. It's probably going to be in the next few weeks, just starting to look at prices at the moment.

Yes I bought an A6400, but I already have 4 x A7III’s. Not really sure what your point is.

I was just making an observation that it would seem pretty unlikely that anyone would swap an A7III for an A6500.

As I said, I'm posting it with a view to selling or trading it, plus cash, if someone wanted to switch systems. Not unheard of, so I wasn't really sure why it was so funny to you? You have 4 A7iii's because of your job. A hobbyist is more likely to have one system, and may want to change.

1. It is smaller when not zoomed out which matters for many people.
2. Speak for yourself.
1. It's bigger when zoomed out and can collect dust when extending and zooming in the barrel.
2. Speak for yourself Mr Sony fanboy who's been shooting since A mount days!

It wasn’t funny.

It was hilarious.

1. Thanks for stating the obvious for 2nd time. It's not going to change anything.
As for collecting dust you must really hate your 100-400, it must be sucking dust like a hoover :p
I am actually glad the 100-400 is an extending design and hence compact when not extended. I'd be equally glad with a 70-200mm that collapses.

2. I have indeed and I am sure most people here will know which one of us here is the fanboy :p

Surely the only benefit is it fits in a smaller bag?! Well go Canon! Bet it doesn’t handle of feel as good as the Sony which is even more important IMO.

Maybe Samyang could make one, you would LOVE it!!

Yeap. Gotta love those Sony ergonomics.

That is one benefit and it's also smaller when shot at the wider end focal lengths. I don't buy a zoom to only shoot at one end.

My 100-400mm handles just fine. I don't think handling will be an issue. If anything it'll be better with canon because most of the weight will be concentrated towards the body which was one of the biggest handling points sony made with thier 400mm f2.8.

If it works well then I don't care who makes it.

Obviously not or I would have mentioned your council house primes.

Wish I had some of those atm tbh, feeling all hipster-ish lately :D

Ironically though, the D800 was the only camera I never adapted anything to :P
