I wonder what the "revolution" will be?

Global shutter?

Leopard skin effect body?

Who knows... but I do hope it is a revolution as if it is the tech may trickle down into a more reasonably priced A7iv.

I think at present it only 'properly' works for dogs and cats which could explain why it struggled with a squirrel. A friend who photographs dogs has said it's revolutionary.
I had heard they had designed it work with dogs and cats at present. To be honest it worked much better than I thought it would. In time with further updates it should be pretty awesome and should change the way every wildlife photographer will work.

This was my first outing to the squirrels with the A7r3 and 100-400 since moving over from Nikon. So far don’t seem to be missing the D810 and 200-400 I previously used. Definitely don’t miss the weight :)

Hopefully more dynamic range, it’s a very good camera already other than that.

I don’t suppose it needs to be any faster than it already is. Would image it will get a bit of a bump in resolution, possibly better animal a.f. Maybe a better evf, like the one in the Panasonic S1R would be nice.

Who knows maybe they will eventually listen and change the focus point colour and add seconds to the clock.

Yup.

We just can't know what "revolution" means but hopefully they'll want to set a high bar for the others, Canikon, Panny etc, to reach for. A better evf is a doddle so hopefully the revolution will be a lot more than that :D More DR would always be nice and maybe a bump in the mp count but maybe a global shutter still isn't possible for this much data? Who knows. Maybe they'll do something about the much complained about ergonomics and menus?

New menu software system be nice and possibly and top
Screen

I like the current menus now I have got used to them.

I couldn't give a flying about menus but judging by what I read on forums it's a massive issue and an improvement would be a game changer :D

Full touch screen support for the menu would draw a lot of fence dweller in I think. Canon and Panasonic have this nailed, and though many of us don't care too much about how a menu is laid out, many do and it does put them off. Any camera I've ever had I would sit down with it for an hour or so in the evening and after a week I'd be flying with it. I do love touch compatibility, makes using the camera as easy as a phone, but it's not a must, more a luxury

As a newcomer to the Sony A-series, I've not found the menus a problem at all. The olympus menus on their OMD range are much worse!

Whoops! :p

Bit of a fail there ;)

It is the A9II

Thought it would be as Nikon & Canon will have there pro mirrorless likely to hit this summer so that it can be tested out by the sports guys before the olympics.

Aww.... Well let's hope it's really revolutionary and then I can get the A9 for a bargain basement price :D

Care to tell a little more? It's not like this is exactly a cheap lens (Sony don't have a single cheap lens in their whole line up - even the council house 50 1.8 is quite a lot more than Nikon's 'new' and relatively expensive 50 1.8G: list £280 vs £219).

Where are you getting your pricing from? Fe50 is 149, G is 169. These are not expensive lenses.

Got to say the 135GM is a delight to use. Not had a huge change to play other than the usual cat subjects, but I have to say it's lovely :-)
Here's hoping it comes close to producing something close to my 5D/135L combo of many years ago that I really loved.

Does look to be a lovely lens but way to far out my price range.
Had looked at the sigma but not sure [emoji848]

I think a big improvement would be a much better fps with the mechanical shutter for those times where electronic isn't great, such as artificial lighting. Unless it's a global shutter of course.

I really wish I could get on with Sony ergonomics, they're certainly the leaders in mirrorless FF at the moment.

I found the Em5 and the Xpro1 awful ergonomically, and really only liked the X-T1 when I added the battery grip, but I got used to them. The Sony bodies have at least some grip on them. Just get a decent strap so you only have to hold the camera when actually shooting

Is the FE 501.8 really as crap as people make out? Some say the FW update improved it a lot. It would be the ideal starter for someone deciding to try the system, like me! But I've definitely read more bad than good about this one

It's the room between the grip and the lens which is an issue for me :(

I loved my 135L at the time too. Hoping I’ll acquire one of these too next couple of years.

Sausage fingers! Looking on the camerasize site, the space between grip and lens looks about the same as my G80 [when comparing to an A7III] though the grip isn't as prominent, looking at your Em5 mkII that does have more space but not by much

I don't have an EM5-II ;) But yes, I have sausage fingers ;) TBH my fingers do fit, just, but I kept constantly catching my knuckles and it was just plain annoying. Also, I often wear gloves when I use the camera in winter, no such chance with the A7's :(

D'oh! I meant Em1 II, I did get it right on the comparison site though. If ergonomics will bother you it's best stick to what you have, I do get it but it's something I can adjust to so long as the output pleases me more

I can't shrink my fingers ;) Plus I've just seen the price of that 85mm f1.4 GM, that's put pay to that idea

You’re too fussy [emoji16]

Sure, my little finger was lost for a couple of days but it now feels fine. But, imagine nearly every shot in focus, and insane af accuracy. They’d be higher up the ‘must have’ features list than anything, right?

There’s bolt on bits to beef up the bottom if you really had to put your little pinky somewhere.

He's too used to his behemoth D850 :D

I think the G streets at a higher price because it's all good, even if construction doesn't feel tremendously solid. I had one briefly.

But list is never going rate, it's not accurate. I've owned both and I wouldn't say either is the better lens, Sony maybe very slightly better.

Interesting. Of course list isn't 'real' but often an indication of where the maker *thinks* an item should be - I'd assumed the sony was relatively cheap discounted because it was a bit crap - never heard anyone complain about the AF in the G, and the impression I have from owning a G is that it was not a great performer, but probably optically better than the Sony. I dunno - the 50 1.8FE is on my avoid list unless I bump into someone & get to try one out sometime.

I think you're missing the problem, I don't mind wrapping my pinky under the camera, had to do that with the D750 and now EM1-II ;)
And all the expensive lenses that go with it, and he baulks at the price of an 85 GM? No wonder he needs gloves... big sausage fingered girl :)
I've not paid the 85mm f1.4 GM price for any lens
Hasn't he spent about 10k on his little sensor camera?
Lol, Ieave my little sensor camera alone :runaway:;) But I wish, I think I'd have gone down the Leica route if I'd had £10k ;)

The Sony is actually optically better (marginally). Neither the 50g or Fe are rapid at AF ime, but the Fe is more accurate due to on sensor Af.

OK, I'll take your word. I'm a little cautious about lenses people say are OK because, having looked at quite a few images from the kit zoom and the zeiss 24-70 I could see both those lenses were quite poor, yet some insisted they were decent performers.

I wouldn't trust the 2470 f4 either, but I'd keep my expectations for a 150 quid lens in check. It's not a lot of money for a brand new mirrorless lens, the kit lens should never cost more than 150 quid either, its only got a high rrp to push kit over body sales.

How much did both your systems cost? Bodies and lenses?
