The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Have you had chance to try it yet?

I've only used mine a few times since the e mount 35mm f1.4 came out. There's no doubt that the 40mm is the more modern lens though.

Twice. Both woodland walks. So yeah, it does that well it seems. Sharper & without the smeary close-to-camera corners. Does bring some nice, smooth separation too. I think I'm going to like it but do need a bit more time with it. Looking forward to going to Bath etc with it at some point.

The A mount 135mm 1.8 is my favourite lens of all time, if they come close to that with quicker AF I'll be first in the queue.

Still planning on getting my mount converted in the new year. Or, maybe I should see how this new one looks? The Art is a superb lens.

I was talking about the old Sony Zeiss Sonnar lens, had that for the a99 then used via the LA-EA4 on the a7 for a while. Unbelievably good bit of glass and still commands £1k.

Ha, I completely misread that. I’ll blame it on the festive drink [emoji15]

Merry Christmas

Playing around with the FE 50mm 1.8 today. Only purchased as a safety net in case for some reason the two MC-11s fail, but it's actually pretty decent. Eye AF is rapid even in ISO2000 conditions and the balance is rather lovely considering I'm used to the 35 and 85 Sigma Arts, it might even become my daily walkaround despite being a bit long (please Sony, release a 35mm 1.8!)

It looks bigger in the pics really. It’s a very light lens and balances well. I borrowed one for a week and thinking of getting one as a general walk about lens too as finding the Samyang 35mm decent but not fantastic when the light goes.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas Day.

I thought I would post up the SanDisk 300MB/s 64GB SD cards are currently very close (24p) to their lowest ever price at £90.23 on Amazon. May be worth a look if anyone is looking for fast memory cards like I was.

Just received my 6 UHS II from Sandisk in replacement for my UHSI cards that didn’t work. They do write a lot quicker but possibly overkill for me.

We had a great day yesterday. We went round all the family and then home to a big dinner, just four of us. This is the only picture I can post, A7 and 35mm f2.8. About half or maybe more of the pictures were taken at f5 as f2.8 just gives too little DoF. The ISO was 5,000 to 10,000 under awful artificial lights. Face detect worked well.

They told me to return it to Amazon…barstewards :p

Now I can't buy any until I know they are either all recalled or fixed or something.

The update definitely fixed the problem.

Are you using your A7iii alongside the 5D for work Raymond or is it either/or? Read quite a bit lately from people liking the EOS R in use. Wondered whether you’ll run the 5D’s into the ground and keep both systems.

Natural light I use the Sony, flashes and macro work I use the Canon. Purely because I don't have any flashes and macro for the Sony. I could use an adaptor but Macro work is done with tripod and stills anyway so DR and AF isn't a factor.

p.s. I haven't updated the firmware yet as I haven't had access to a PC.

The godox system is certainly superb for the money. Macro, as in, a ring shot?

Are you intending to ditch the Canon eventually?

Macro as in lens.

I only have 1 Godox flash so my experience with it is sub-par. 6 out of 20 didn't hire. That is 30%.

Mine were very reliable on the Nikon. Haven’t used much with the Sony yet but I did have a situation yesterday when the little 350 stopped firing. Turned it off and remounted, to get it to work again. See how it goes.

It’s fixed now with latest update.

Yeah all 6 of my new cards were replaced with UHSII cards, they told me to send back to amazon but I told them I couldn’t because I’d already opened them ;)

Jammier than Hartley’s jammiest!

I think I will build a NUC next year to run alongside my iMac, just for PS/LR work, and I will update it then.

What's that suppose to mean? it either works or doesn't work. You can't exactly half upgrade the fw :D

It works just fine if you follow all the instructions :)

I thought it was clunky at best. Eventually worked and didn’t do anything different, following the instructions.

It doesn't work for many who have Osx. Get windows. Always been the best

its because they haven't followed the instructions. If it works on my OSX is should on others too. there is lot less variance in Macs unlike windows. So chances are very very high that if it works on one it'll work on the rest.

p.s. for the record I also have a windows laptop. they all have pros and cons like cameras. There is nothing about windows that makes the rubbish clunky upgrade process of Sonys any better.

Like you said yourself its clunky regardless of the OS you use. Sony needs to fix that make it easier to upgrade. For example allow to copy a file to SD card and update from there.

what do you mean by "eventually" it worked. Last thing I want is brick the thing.

If your camera is in warranty they'll fix that free of charge. I don't think its that easy to brick your camera but best be careful I guess.

Absolutely. That’s how the Nikon firmware worked.

But Sony seem a bit more committed to actually upgrading their cameras with firmware. Nikon weren’t exactly good in this regard.
