The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I know all that and I wouldn't include people with a real and well thought out balanced and intelligent reason for choosing anything over anything else but these are not the ones I'm talking about here. What I'm talking about are those who seem blinkered and seem to be placing the brand above pretty much everything else. The brand is King does seem to be true for some.

Anyway. Steve Huff has switched to Canon. Read it on his site.

PS.
Just checked the prices of the various bodies and whilst I'm all for buying what's best for me if anyone want to buy more on the basis of the badge and in doing so pay several hundred £ more than the competition costs I needn't understand why an adult would do that, I just need to wish them luck and hope they'll be happy with their purchase.

Brand loyalty is quite basic and simple to understand. You have a good experience with something you go back/buy/use again.

Huff. Has he switched exclusively or just added the R to his fuji, Leica, Sony etc kit?

Hmmm. Maybe it's just and only me but I honestly truly couldn't give a flying and if the next Panasonic / Leica thing is great I could just decide to get one. One reason I've tried to keep my investment in native lenses down is so switching is relatively painless, my old lenses will work on just about any mirrorless and all I'll need is new adapters.

Dunno about Steve Huff. I just skimmed his article but I guess he'll probably be over enthusiastic for a while and then there'll probably be something else new and shiny for him to get over excited about.

Yes but many many people only seem to care about the badge on the front. Reading the various forums it just staggers me how many people must have a Nikon/Canon. For many people it just doesn't matter if the Sony is two generations better, they just don't care and just want the canikon.

They do because in the SLR and DSLR era they have the best and most complete library of glass.

Bodies comes and goes, Sony could be 100x better but the only lens you can get is a 3.5-5.6 kit lens, who is going to buy it?

OK I give up.

Everyone who buys anything does so after carefully weighing up the pros and cons and always makes the intelligent choice and never ever buys on brand loyalty alone. I can only assume I've dreamt all the dreary childish fanboy stuff I've read on forum after forum.

You posed an observation, I merely gave you what I think is the answer, it’s not about “give up”. If you don’t think Canon and Nikon have better/more glass library then you are free to offer your rebuttal. If you agree then it’s a legit reason why all those people have Canon and Nikon despite Sony’s better body tech.

I have really liked all your pictures so far. But this one I don't really get... Perhaps because I wouldn't keep an expensive diamond ring with my shoes :D

Bride asked "could you take a photo of my shoes with this ring?"

Me "sure"

…on the spot now need to think of a photo of them both together in a way that shows both in a single photo….clock is ticking…………..go go go !

Well if the client asked then perfect (y)

What am I Toni? Sony, Canon, Nikon or Kodak fanboy? Or Maybe a Minolta, Panasonic, Olympus or Voigtlander fanboy? Make your mind up.

Other than that you're a twit and a troll and even worse your one line snipes are never even funny.

Don't care if this gets me a ban :D

I have to agree. "Swiss Toni" comes across as the all knowing Oracle of camera gear. Don't dare ever question the greatness of the Sony 28mm without truckloads of evidence.

There's a strong possibility he will link to a superbly bland photo of a train in the countryside shot on the A6000 with that straight out of camera look

Well what a complete s*** of a day. Would say 50% of my photos out OOF.

No idea what’s gone so wrong. Set up the A9 as I would for sports but so many missed focus shots.

Must be missing something. Prime example here. Started tracking a while back in AF-C flexible centre spot.

This one was 2.8, but was happening at f4 etc.

Camera has decided to focus on the jump and not the horse. Looks ok small, but when you go full size the jump wing is nice and sharp in focus. Horse is not. Happened a lot!!

So I am new to the full-frame Sony lark though I started my digital photography with a Sony a100, then a700, a while back. I have an Olympus 355mm shift lens I was using on Fuji crop bodies but it is just too long so I picked up an a7 to give it a go:

When Lee's adapter arrives I can try my Canon FD 35mm tilt-shift too.

That must be very frustrating for you, would you post some examples with settings?

Added example to thread. Happened when I was in manual too (F4).

Basically no settings different to what I used to use on the D750. Was trying out 10fps and 20fps.

Love the green/yellow/orange transitions through the trees :)

Another complete out of focus shot at the extreme, and another not quite as bad. Was indoors to 1/500. But still, not sure what went wrong. Very bad day out really. Again. with the D750 ad 1/500 I was getting in focus images.

Nice colours eh @SsSsSsSsSnake

How would that have helped?!

Just have a skim over posts as not been in much. So you a A9 though you were getting a7iii

He got a73 then got 9 coz thought would be better. Glad to see you are back.

I bought an A9 for the better EVF and Zero black out which is better for tracking. But thanks for your as always sarcastic input.

Ouch expensive upgrade I would of kept the a7iii learn it and spend on glasses

No problem, I get why you're upset, I played on that a little, stick with it, I think you need to spend more time learning about the sony AF system :)

Zero black out I see your point for that for the horses but AF is it really any better?

Been well pls with my a7iii.

Yes the d750 is a lovely camera too you did brilliantly with it.

Rub it in why don’t you lol

If you want the better AF, zero EVF blackout, better EVF, silent shooting and higher fps amongst other things, then it’s worth it. :)

It all down to users needs

@JJ you say flexible centre?? Isn’t it one or the other?

From my limited time with mine, flexible spot can jump around when you don’t want it to. Maybe small spot or AF lock-on might be better for tracking?

Very true. It seems very different and a little erratic. No idea why it switched focus on to the jump. So used to the D750 just sticking with the focus on the moving subject.

Flexible spot I think, getting words muddled! Need to maybe go through those advanced vids online which talk about all the settings! Nikon was all quite simple!

I’m still having similar teething problems tbh. Focus sometimes fails when you least expect it. The camera sometimes irritates with its responsiveness too, especially when it sleeps and I want to quickly engage and shoot. I’ve set the sleep timer to 10 seconds because I don’t want it on for long when I’m done but it does take longer than the 750 to ‘wake up.’

The AF point can also suffer slowness to react at times, which has bugged me. I don’t like the fact it’s black either, it can be a b****r to see! I’m sure I’ll work it out but there’s definitely a few niggles with me too.
