you might find it worthwhile investing in a grip extension for it if you're shooting for prolonged periods. Unless you've got v small hands, you can end up with some unexpected hand/finger pain without one.

Eager to give this one a try, faster af and quieter than what I'm using and light enough to not really notice it, really nice in use.

So of course there's a problem, bloody thing front focuses, super happy to be having this problem with a mirrorless system.

I am considering a 3rd party grip, if anyone wants to chirp up which is the best option?

I’m only a week into mine and still working out what AF settings are best suited to. Eye AF is pretty good but definitely not perfect. Much will depend on lenses being used too I’d imagine. My two 1.4’s obviously aren’t as snappy as other options. Had my 3 year old run at me today and about 60% success rate. Generally using expandable small spot focus but the AF lock-on does seem to have its uses too.

I couldn’t get eye focus to lock on here because of the bars. Bare in mind though that I was leaning over the fence and had the camera upside down, using the tilted screen backwards to compose something. Seemed to really struggle. But hey, nothings ever perfect and it’s part of the learning process.

I haven’t watched any YouTube vids either. Lack of time and prefer to just get out there and try a few things myself.

Wow, I'm really happy with the 85mm f/1.8. My poor mother served as portrait practice (she'd go mental if she knew I put her photo online haha). Eye AF, low light, ISO 1250, handheld at 1/125s & wide open.

Nice shots, its a superb lens, Im mostly a 1.4 person but the 1.8 is such an amazing lens, sold my 1st copy and instantly regretted it and bought another. It punches well above its price.

My 7R II is getting older, but I have the feeling that in the next few months there will be a new body.

May be it will worth to wait, you never know :)

I don’t think Sony will release anything for a bit. Purely as they don’t need too. IMO the new offerings from Nikon and Canon just don’t cut it and is there anything else out there like the A9.

I’m thinking they have them in the pipeline but will release them when they need to!
 
But don’t forget, colors are rubbish on Sony cameras...

Yes but many many people only seem to care about the badge on the front. Reading the various forums it just staggers me how many people must have a Nikon/Canon. For many people it just doesn't matter if the Sony is two generations better, they just don't care and just want the canikon.

Maybe some have canon or Nikon glass that they would prefer to use on a canon/Nikon mirrorless body.
Or maybe the Sony doesn’t feel comfortable for them to use. Or maybe even though they may be a little behind on specs they know that ultimately their photography won’t actually be affected by it.

It’s not always brand snobbery or being a fanboy to choose not to shoot with Sony.

I know all that and I wouldn't include people with a real and well thought out balanced and intelligent reason for choosing anything over anything else but these are not the ones I'm talking about here. What I'm talking about are those who seem blinkered and seem to be placing the brand above pretty much everything else. The brand is King does seem to be true for some.

Anyway. Steve Huff has switched to Canon. Read it on his site.

Just checked the prices of the various bodies and whilst I'm all for buying what's best for me if anyone want to buy more on the basis of the badge and in doing so pay several hundred £ more than the competition costs I needn't understand why an adult would do that, I just need to wish them luck and hope they'll be happy with their purchase.

I made the jump earlier this year got rid of two bodies and 5 lens, if I'm honest it probably cost about 5 grand BUT it's the best move photographically i have ever done!

Dunno why I waste my time as there is an ignore button but that would seem too rude.

No I'm not a fan boy, I couldn't give a flying who makes what and my only interest in this is I do get a bit disappointed when badges come into it as buying badges just lessens the chance of the better stuff succeeding over the bad and the average. Why care who makes what as long as it doesn't fall apart? I can't see why I or anyone else should.

I had compacts until I got my first SLR which was a Nikon because they seemed to be the best at that time and I used it for decades before switching to Canon DSLR's for about ten years. I switched because Canon seemed to have a definite lead at the time and indeed when I got a 5D that was the only FF DSLR choice. I sold all my Canon kit when I got the A7 and I got it because again it was the only choice at the time, it was the only FF mirrorless. These days we have more choice and I will never be disappointed in anyone if they make informed intelligent decisions :D but if people want to buy a badge I reserve the right to think they a little bit silly :D
