The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I was thinking about the future mkIV's and wondering what new features and tech would come in... a global shutter may be predictable at some point but some things may be difficult to predict or we could have something that at first doesn't seem to be that earth shattering but proves to be a biggie later on, something the equivalent of txt messaging which at first was expected to be a little used feature but which came to be a big one. Direct posting to social media and features only now available on phones will doubtless come.

Face detect has really surprised me. I didn't bother with it until recently but now I see real benefit for people shots and I expect eye detect to be better and I'm sure that in the future this will get better and expand to animals and objects.

Who knows, we might even see something truly radical like a Sony 35mm f1.8.

The most obvious change I'm expecting is the new EVF to be in the A7R and A9 while their current EVF ends up in the A7 but as I've said before I'm satisfied by these cameras on a technical level, where they fall short is on the usability side (ergonomics, touch screen, wifi app not being awful, articulating screen etc).

I'm quite satisfied with most things but a focus joystick and eye detect would be very nice and both are available with the newer models and of course a global shutter might be something... nice too.

I've just been thinking that some features and abilities might take us by surprise.

The only 5D2 feature I still miss is the little joystick for selecting/moving AF points - but I've managed without it for about 3-4 years now :)

We were out early this morning & have just returned from Tintern Abbey..... Lovely :) But not quite autumnal colours yet....

I have only shot a couple of weddings and an engagement session so far with mine for work but already starting to take less images. You can really rely on everything being as it should be in terms of focus so you will likely find that you will end up shooting less as it will be one less thing to worry about and you won’t have as many images to cull as a result.

Yeah I can see that for sure :)

I can of taking a little while to adjust though, going to try and stay concious of it next Saturday

Yeah there is a bit of a learning curve, setting the camera up to work best for you etc. won’t be long before everything becomes second nature. I have been using Nikon for over 15 years and only switched over in the last month and it already feels like second nature. :)

I'll have adjusted by next season, I can just see me massively overshooting the last 2 weddings of this year while I get out of old habits :)
 
What’s cheapest charger these days? Forgot the one I was using was my mates which I have now sold DOH!!!!
 
Ok decided to stick with the Sony but due to current finances it will be with the 70-200 and 28-70 kit lens for now as need to buy extra battery, charger and card. Should have kept hold of my mates ones but wasn’t really thinking at the time!!!

If you are interested I have a genuine Sony charger I bought for my a7iii, now that I have the a9 with charger too, I do no think I will need both.

I have the same one, don't have any complaints.

I also have the official Sony charger too, the Sony does it faster, mainly because I am only using a 5V Amazon Fire TV adaptor to power the other one. I could use a more powerful PSU like the one for the iPad but the Amazon one is spare and does just fine, it's also perfect to take on travel too as it is USB powered. I keep it in my case because at a pinch I can charge it in the car or via a powerbank.
 
It’s ok. Charger situation sorted! Hoping the 28-70 is good enough to get me by whilst I save for upgrade!
 
I think it's a good variable aperture standard range kit lens.
 
I think it's had some mixed reviews but I have no real complaints. It's compact and light and hardly extends and is IMO ok throughout the frame. I got mine with my A7 but didn't bother with it for years but have recently taken it out a few times and I'm happy with it. TBH the kit lens and a wide aperture prime could cover most of what I want.

Not heard of them personally I would stick with Panamoz.

I distrust retail websites that hide their domain registration information.

The physical address they are using isn't real either it's a virtual office that is used by many different companies.

If you email Panamoz they will match the efininty price of £1629 and Panamoz offer a 3 year warranty.

Does seem a bit odd! Was looking at some lenses on their for future purchase but not worth the risk!
 
I ordered my A7iii from panamoz and have no complaints, arrived within 4 days, ordered Friday morning, delivered Monday. :)

No seating issues with mine. :)
 
Maybe just down to the shape of the panny batteries, it always works but just tskes care to make sure they're connected.

That's good. I've used Digital review shop and been happy.
 
The more eI use my A7RIII the more I like it, I can get it with the 24-105 attached, a Loxia 21mm and/or a Laowa 15mm and a 200mm f4 Olympus Lens in a Photo Hatchback 22l for a fairly lightweight bag.

Thank you the resolution is nice for landscapes saying that I do wonder how much I will notice the difference unless I print big but it was the obivous choice for since the majority of stuff I do is landscapes.

That is it though, with the a7RIII you have the option to more easily print large if you want/need to.

I agree that it is a lovely set of images. :clap:

For me, for weddings and events the a7iii was the choice, now that I have just bought an a9 and I do more studio work I think I could easily benefit from the extra resolution of the a7riii.
