The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Nikon confirmed that they will NOT share the lens mount information to third parties as Sony does. This means Sigma, Tamron and Tokina will have to do reverse engineering and autofocus should be therefore slower.

Missed this. Pretty poor.

What 3rd party batteries and chargers do people use with the Sony A7iii? I'm getting one soon and the charger is like £80. I want to be able to charge other batteries on the move with a power bank too.

You can charge it in the body via power bank.

But I'd like to use the camera while charging another battery.

You can use the camera while charging (which is useful feature). But if you would like to charge the battery externally then ex-pro are generally good as mentioned above. I haven't used them for fz-100 battery though

Mrs WW seems to be addicted to brambles.

We started with bramble pies and have graduated to bramble juice, bramble jam, bramble smoothines and yesterday we had bramble ice cream and it was lovely :D Soon I think we'll be wearing bramble clothes and living in a bramble house.

A7, 85mm f1.8 at f4.5, Mrs WW and brambles...

Early A7 cams AWB was a bit iffy.... one click in LR and you lose that jaundice look.

I use a Hahnel ProCube 2 for Sony - it charges 2 FZ batteries and when they are full it defaults to a USB charger ( I use that for my iPhone). It comes with spare plates to charge other type of Sony batteries plus a plate to recharge 4 AA recharbles.

Thanks alot. I'll look that up [emoji3]

Mmm, Nikon 'We've made an adapter that allows you full compatibility with 90 of our own lenses, and a couple hundred more have partial compatibility'.
Random person 'That's great, but can't you give all the technology for that adapter you have to other companies to make it easy for them to make adapters?
Nikon 'How do we make money from that?'
Random person 'You may gain users of other camera systems.'
Nikon 'Are these people buying our lenses when they buy the camera or just using somebody else's lenses with an adapter bought from someone else?
Random person 'I don't know'
Nikon 'Neither do we, so we won't make it easy for people to spend lens money elsewhere. We'll look after our current users first to make the transition to Z mount as easy as possible. We've made the largest lens mount that could be adapted for almost any lens, but we would prefer it if you used our F mount lenses before anything.'
Random person 'But I want to use ****** lens!'
Nikon 'And if someone works out how to do a quality adapter you will be able to.'
Random person 'But Sony have an adapter and also helped people make adapters for other lenses!'
Nikon 'And how many new lenses did Sony have on release of the E mount, and how many lenses did they have in their Sony/Minolta lens history?'
Random person 'Erm, five new lenses I think, not sure about old lenses.'
Nikon 'So I think what you are saying is that they had five new lenses and a few older lenses, but thought it was beneficial to be able to use other manufacturers lenses to be used on their system until they brought out their own versions to flesh out their range, so shared with other companies how to do it easily?
Random person 'Yes, that's it exactly.'
Nikon 'We don't have to do that, did you not understand my previous answer, we have 90 lenses fully compatible, and a few hundred older lenses which should cover what most people need for now' ;)

As you clearly work in Nikon’s marketing department, maybe you could also explain the lack of a 2nd card slot, lack of exposure comp dial or 5fps burst? :P

How many cameras have exp. Comp dial?

The 5fps was bit of a downer when I read about it 5 minutes ago.

More I look into this, it only seems as good as A7RII which can be had for less than half price :(

Loads.

No, buy.

This is great for anyone who's been pondering on Sony but holding back to see what Nikon has to offer. I certainly wouldn't refuse an A7RII

Which DSLR has it?

Is it just me or are the AF samples on dpreview OoF? They seem to think AF is great though!

Who cares which dslrs have it? Every mirrorless camera going has one. Pretty essential for any modern camera, imo.

Tony and Chelsea Northrup did not think the AF was on par with the D850, but they had a preproduction model. They said it missed focus quite a bit.

But you've made her top purple Twist and her trousers aren't right either and her skin looks unnatural in yours too so one click clearly doesn't do it. The shot isn't auto WB BTW, it's fiddled with for effect.

The shot may not be perfect but it's good enough for purpose (sending electronically to her mam) and if and when it gets printed I'll adjust it for best effect then.

Not Sony but... Steve Huff on a Wotancraft back pack.

That's nice :D

Maybe too big for Sony kit though.

I wish companies would send me free s**t! I guess you have to actually be a famous reviewer first huh? I thought my Think Tank Sling-o-matic 20 was a big bag, that thing is huge! I don't like the style though, in particular the leather straps, they look a bit flimsy

I'm still mostly using a small man bag I got off a Thai floating market.

I had 6 bags at one point, reduced to 3 now. Sold an airport roller bag after selling my bulkier Nikon gear, and also sold a couple back packs. I use the Sling-o-matic pretty much as storage, and have a Kata minibee for when I want to bring all my gear, and a cheap amazon [though it is WR] messenger bag for on the bike with less gear.

This is fun, same a73, same settings. One is Sony Zeiss 35/1.4, one is Canon 35L/1.4 mk2.

SOOC.

Bottom one is nicer IMO, it's a little warmer and i tend to prefer that. Top one has slightly nicer bokeh though.
