My main issue with sony APS-C is they don't have a lens like canon 22mm f2 for their mirrorless and my main issue with canon is they don't have a body like A6500 :D
You can never win lol

I'd suggest the overpriced Sony Zeiss 24mm or the 35mm you have ordered. The Sony 20mm f2.8 is pretty small but not as good.

One thing that puts me off the A6xxx system is the lack of a compact 24mm f1.8 but if that lens isn't too big for you it might be worth a look as it seems to get good reviews.

Hi guys, ive recently joined the Sony Alpha club and purchased an A6500.
So far i only have a cheapo 16-50mm kit lens to use with it.
Im going on a family vacation in mid july and was hoping to buy the 18-105 F4 G lens to take with me but it looks like funds might be a bit tight so close to the holiday so i was wondering if you guys might be able to recommend a nice prime lens to take instead that is a little bit cheaper.
It will mainly be used for capturing images of my children and family.

The Sony 50 f/1.8 and 35 f/1.8 are both decent lenses, also the Sigma 19 f/2.8, 30 f/2.8 and 60 f/2.8 are worth looking at.

We've found the 85 1.8 perfect for weddings, Raymond. The size and lightness is the best thing about it. Probably the quickest focusing of all the lenses I've used too.

Or £499 postcash back from LCE. Makes it very tempting to replace my canon 85 1.8, but then i only have one Sony body and one canon body so couldn’t do the 35/85 split

With the 50mm f/1.8, would you recommend the Aps-c version or the FE version? As they are both at a similar price and OSS isn't really a priority i was thinking of maybe getting the FE version as it will be of use should i go full frame in the future.

I've got the APS-C version on my A6000, and I am very pleased with it.

I've not tried the FE version, but reviews on Dyxum suggest the AF is not great with that lens

(It's always worth checking the reviews on Dyxum when looking to get a lens for Sony, there is obviously an element of owners bias, but it is generally a good pointer to strengths and weaknesses)

Ah yes i can see a lot are not happy with the auto focus. Guess I'll go with the APS-C version then.

I watched that last night, he likes to break down his reviews in parts. If you like DXO then you will love his channel. He will also do 1 conclusion video too, just wait for that where he ranks them at the end.
 
Looking for recommendations:

Travel/day-to-day bag

for two Sony bodies, and three lenses, a mixture of 85, 16-35, 24-70 and 90 macro.

If I could get two of those and the 70-200 that would be a bonus.

I’m looking for a satchel style.

Shoot/weekend bag

For two Sony bodies and 7 lenses, 35 1.4, 85 1.4, 90 macro, 16-35, 24-70, 70-200, 100-400.

Either backpack or trolley.

It's slower than the Zeiss 35 and 50/1.4.

It's the first thing I noticed.
 
My first time out with my Nikon pre ai 50mm f1.4, just a walk to the shops...

It's quite a nice lens, there's vignetting at wider apertures and f1.4 is frankly a mess but other than that :D

Back home and a bit tired after over 9k steps according to the smart watch thingy. Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 at f2.8.

There wasn't much wrong with the ones that caused all the debate either, the "corrected" one (which I did appreciate :D) had a more natural skin tone but a purple forest floor (I much preferred my own) and you have to take into account that those shots were under a canopy of leaves (green ones) with the sun shining through them.

I'll post this here... Why not...

Windows did an update today and started to display a little thumbnail picture for all of my raws. It's done this before and it's not what I want to see so I have a partial fix that worked last time it did this and sort of works this time too in a good enough sort of way. If anyone experiences the same and finds it annoying my fix is here...

I'm assuming there is no way in camera to set a bigger Jpeg preview file in RAW? The A7III ones are annoyingly small when reviewing in Photomechanic. Apart from converting to DNG, I can't think of any way to rectify this.

Agreed really annoying. Could shoot raw+jpg?
 
Doing my first bit of editing the A7iii. I'm working a little harder than I normally do, but I think its a case of getting used to the colours and contrast and having edited nothing really but Nikon before. I remember that it took me about 6 months to properly adapt to the D4 after using the D700/D3s for years. The Sony files are closer to the D750 than the D700 was.
