The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Stop it. I sold my mk2 because we didn’t gel...

must. NOT Get a Mk3....

Never tried a mk2 because it doesn’t have dual cards but the mk3 is a fantastic camera, the tech inside makes it so easy. I showed a guest how to use eye af, gave her the camera and she could get sharp pictures.

The Mk2 was barely an upgrade from the Mk1, the Mk3 is in a completely different league... in every way.

b****r...

Not sure why you would need a D610, the A73 is FAR superior mate.

All to do with having consistency, so D750 and D610 work well together. Using a D750 then picking up a A7iii may be a bit strange. Talking at a wedding one with 35 one with 85.

One more thing, people have commented how good this new Z battery is, I did 12 hrs, the camera may have been switched off totally for 20mins total during that (between driving between venues and eating) and I ran one totally flat and the 2nd to 18%. I still had a 3rd.

I shot over 5,000 photos on it in the 12hrs. That real world figure is much higher than Sony’s.
I did the photo walk with @dancook For a whole day and took thousands of shots too before my battery almost died(i forgot to bring a spare battery)

Ok, home now and I only have a few minutes before I have to leave again.

First proper impression of the A73 after shooting a wedding. I went nuts with this camera, I think I shot 50% (or more) on this with the 50 Zeiss than I ever did with this focal length for like ever. Partly because the rooms and spaces I was in lean itself to suit this focal length and partly because I was finding the focusing absolutely incredible. I am still importing photos at the moment which will take a while but I want to talk about the colours. These are straight out of the camera, natural light and all I did was transferred them to my phone through the Playmemories app, I shot RAW only so something must have done the conversion but colours look great, skin colours look good.

Great photos. Looks like I neeeeeeed a 50/f1.4...
and an R3

Is this actually a problem as I’ve seen a lot of vids of Sony’s with OCF and they seem to achieve what he wants.

You can work around it but I agree with him, what's the point of having a setting to control how the EVF/rear display acts only to have adding a speedlight or trigger overriding it? It makes no sense.

Just a couple of minor tweaks to fix these things...

Become a member of the Sony alpha page to see it.its worth seeing.

Basically there's a bloke who has tons of access to gear at his disposal and he shoots both Sony and canon and does wildlife.

To cut a long story short he has 400 500 and now 600mm canon prime lenses and his been testing them all out on the A9 and the results are astounding.

The link above blows it out the park as he attached a Sony tc to his 400mm DO lens and it worked! What the f***!

I don't appreciate the comparison.

WHAT!

I didn't realise that sort of thing went on in this thread!

Alan your puny expenditure on Sony gear makes you not worth mentioning..

only playing with ya...

*sigh*

...all my lenses get used professionally - I may not actually make enough to cover their cost though, but that's besides the point ;)

Some bluebell wood pictures, I think there'll be a lot more out next week.

A7 and Voigtlander 35mm f1.4.

Blown sky but there was no way I could have kept it with one shot, too dark in the wood.

i'm sure it's going to be 'personal taste' or something - but my 2 cents.

When you white balance an image properly it really separates the colours in the image, currently the skin tones meld with the surrounding greens.

I can understand the desire for a 'warmer' look image, but i think this can be developed after the WB.

I've started to tweak and change wb now and makes pp easier

No taste really just a lack of processing ability. She's a lovely colour in person and my most photographed person :D but with all that green about things aint easy for me so I've concentrated on getting her clothing looking as accurate as I can get it. The raw looks waaay too blue and nothing looks right to me so I've backed it off slightly towards yellow from 4700 to 6300 to try and get her clothing and bag looking about right, other than that I've had to add 43 fill light to the file and I've increased the exposure on her face +0.5.

That's the limit of my ability with this.

Actually I've just gone back in and added a grad to the top to pull the sky back slightly and that's now the limit of my ability with this :D

white balance off one of the white stripes on her top, then you may want to play with the greens or find a nice preset.

I had a look myself, and the white balance alone creates a good start.

Let me know what the setting below does for your greens

AWB -> A-B: A4 & G-M: G2
Creative Style (Standard) +1 -2 +0

Her tops grey with darker strips and if I WB off different points I get widely different results. I'll have another look at it tomorrow but it's always going to be for the best effect I can get with my limited processing skills.

Soz but I don't understand that, I'm using CS5. Looks like this...

Actually that looks different to the one above and I don't know why. I'll have another look tomorrow.

Highlights -30 - auto colour - Hue -5 & Saturation -25 improves the colours in the shot you've illustrated in cs5 in my opinion.

I have noticed your photos are always on the green hue side a bit too much, I am unsure if it's the characteristic of the original A7, your various manual focus lenses or your monitor.

With this one (blue bell wood) it started at temp 4700 and tint +8, to me it looks more natural on my screen at temp 6300, that's changing the blue towards the yellow.

Same camera and lens... another day... too green?
