That peeling screen.

Is he peeling off a screen protector that comes already on a new camera?

Do you put a new screen protector straight on top of that?

I don't understand.

Is there already a laminated screen protector on the camera straight out of the box? If so, why do you have to take it off and put another screen protector on? Is the one that came with the camera crap? Does everyone remove it and put their own one on?

I'm wondering if I've got my wires crossed here. Are you talking about just a cellophane protective sheet over your new screen when you open the box, or a fixed laminated protector that has been fitted at the factory? If it is a cellophane sheet that you are removing, mine didnt come with one on, hence my confusion. Watching that YouTube video the guy is obviously peeling off some protective laminated layer that came attached to the screen...

Does look like that layer he peels off is not meant to come off, especially if you need a knife to remove it!!

That's why I said it was scary earlier! But how come his screen was in that state?

That’s just the way the LCD wears if your constantly rubbing it against things.
Best solution is to put a LCD glass/hard screen protector on from new.
The Sony LCD screen protector is priced crazy though £30-33!!! :o

Trivia friday question for you all.

Can you name one piece of feature/improvement you would like on the 4th gen Sony bodies that would tempted you to upgrade and why?

There's lots of areas for improvement, it's part of the reason each new version brings so many improvements- the design hasn't matured yet. I would personally like the EVF to be improved as it's the one area where you can see they cut costs (well that and the missing charger).

That's a difficult one..... as there is still a lot that can be improved / added.

Dual UHS-II slots - for quicker buffer clearing
Organic global sensors - better ISO/DR/IQ and zero rolling shutter
Water and dust resistant - to stand up better to harsh situations
Better GUI & touch screen impementation
4G SIM slot - for direct cloud backups during important shoots
Flash control - wireless flash control built in
Lens change mode - shutter automatically closes in the off position or when a lens is removed to avoid sensors getting dirty
Improved EVF and LCD screen
LED implementation for buttons
Top LCD screen

For me it's simple

1) An A Mount adaptor that allows me to use my older screw drive lenses with the full camera capabilities - basically an LEA3 but with a built in focus motor (rather than the LEA4 which restricts you to it's built in AF).
My favourite lens is my Minolta 85 f/1.4 G, so currently my 'upgrade' is an A99II.

2) Best EVF possible - I've not tried the EVF's in the A7/A9, but in the A mount the A99II EVF is noticeably better than that in the A99 / A77 both of which I was not happy with.

A pop up flash because sometimes they're useful especially if like the ones on the Panny RF style bodies you can tilt them.

Just a bit off topic...

I took this recently with my Panny GX80 and 45-150mm at ISO 16,000. I decided not to keep it as I thought I'd put him a bit low down in the frame but then I noticed the ISO and decided to keep it anyway and stick it in my little test folder. It's just had basic processing and the noise reduction is just what I apply to everything so nothing much really. I'm not too sure what it'll look like here but on my screen it looks fine as a whole picture and it would no doubt be ok to print. I'm occasionally shocked what these modern cameras and lenses are capable of. When I had my Canon 5D* ISO 3,200 was high and looked a bit ropey but these days almost anything is capable of at least as good and possibly better than the FF stuff of not so long ago. Back when I had that 5D I thought I'd never need anything better :D

I'm keeping my A7 and it gives better image quality than my Panny but I do think that lots of kit these days is more than good enough :D

Sorry to post a Panny snap in the Sony thread :D

*PS.
Thinking of that 5D I should have also been remembering what 35mm film was like too :D

Managed to score a 24-70mm f4 Zeiss from Currys for £599 (now out of stock), and should be eligible for £80 cashback. Can't decide whether to get rid of the 28-70mm kit lens now, they don't sell for much and might be worthwhile to have a spare.

Get rid, use the cash for something else.
