The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Hi all. Just a quick question......Having received my A7 iii last week, and coming from Canon...I got the Sigma mc-11 adaptor to use some of my current glass before getting into native stuff. My question is this......Is there an alternative way of locking on and tracking a subject, for example, bird in flight etc if that particular focus option isn't available due to using the adaptor??? Or is it that i need to get native glass and that's that?

It’s hard to argue that we’re poorly catered for in 35mm glass now, yes I’d like an f1.8 but there’s all manner of every other 35mm now, f1.4, large, small, sharp, unsharp!

I'd like to see a 35 1.4 GM, to much copy variation with the zeiss. It's a problem.

True - it’s probably why I’d just buy the Sigma over the Zein’s (especially as I have an MC-11) AF on that is good enough for me.

Nice!

On another note... the D850 never happened in the end - decided to cancel and just keep the A7riii - picked up the Sigma 100-400 with the MC-11 and it seems nice enough, £700 was a steal!

:D are you happy with the Sony A7R III though?

How are you finding this? Have you shot anything challenging AF wise?

A7iii being drip fed to suppliers? I know it’s selling well but surely they should get regular stock?!

There's an A7III review at Admiring Light which is worth a read...

https://admiringlight.com/blog/review-sony-a7-iii/

On striping he says...
"On paper, this sounds like it could be a very serious issue. Well, in my experience so far with the A7 III, after several thousand frames taken, I have encountered the striping issue on exactly zero of my images. I’m not saying it doesn’t exist…I know from my experience with other PDAF sensor cameras that it can appear from time to time, but even using a lens like the 85mm f/1.8 in backlit situations, I was unable to induce it. My conclusion? It’s not something you’re likely to see often. In fact, it’s likely that you will hardly ever see it. If conditions do conspire to induce it in an image of yours, know that the fixes are pretty quick and easy. However, I wouldn’t worry about it. The benefits of on-sensor PDAF massively outweigh the extremely small percentage of shots that are likely to suffer any visual artifacts."

He concludes...
" It’s an exceptional camera, and one that will give most shooters all the camera they will need for years to come."

That's nice.
:D

JJ doesn’t have a Sony

Someone on Steve Huff's site takes a look at the 7Artisans 35mm f2 in M mount...

He says this lens is due out in May and I might be tempted as these will obviously fit an A7x via an adapter but I would like to see some reviews on an A7 before buying.

Lenses like this are what I've wanted for a while, lenses that are good enough both in build and optical performance and the price is nice too. My thinking is that these could be an alternative to older film era lenses as good older ones are getting harder to find and prices are rising plus hopefully the new lenses will put off any issues due to decades of use and age.

Anyone interested?

Before buying I'd like to see if those rumored small Zeiss alon primes come out but if and when they do appear they will no doubt be very different to these well priced manual lenses.

Do I dare ask what screen protectors use on their Sony bodies?!
