Question :is it worth using uhs 2 300mb cards on the 2nd slot of the a9/7r3 or would something like a slower 95mb card be fine speed wise and buffer?
only one slot is UHS II, the other is UHS - so that won't benefit from a 300MB/s card - I use a 95 mb/s for the jpgs

A friend of mine is after a Sony A7R2/3 it seems the the A7R3 is £850 dearer than the A7R2 at the place he's looking so he's asked me if its worth it and since I've no idea I hoped one of you kind chaps on here would know.

I thought you shoot raw on both.
Only if he needs better autofocus. The a7r2 focus is still decent though.

I keep changing my mind as it seems that image reviewing is faster when shooting RAW + JPEG, with playback set to Slot 2.

Yeah but imo the main thing is the AF. The iq is the same. The rest worth 800 quid... not imo.

Mainly landscapes and some general stuff nothing to taxing AF wise.
I'd personally grab the a7r2 and a spare battery then. Change for lenses.

Probably not but the EVF is the only thing which feels a bit inferior on the A73, I think I'd go for the A7R 3 given the choice.
A73 and r3 are different cameras... I went for the a73. Op isn't comparing them.

Neither was I, I was talking about the EVF because AFAIK it's the same between the A7R 2 and A73. When using the A73 the EVF is the only thing which feels a bit inferior as its limitations are fairly obvious.
So for clarity, if choosing between the A7R 2 and 3 I'd favour the 3.
Although saying that there's a cashback deal on the A7R 2 from the 2nd of May for £400, that's quite a saving.

A7R II again, you could wait until Sony cash back deals tomorrow, somebody mentioned £400 off the A7R II earlier in the thread, then use your 10% off too.

I’ve never had any firmware update issues when upgrading the Sony A7/9 bodies since the original A7.
I use a MacBook Pro and the normal Sony instructions.
