The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Very good so far. Only had 15 mins with it in good light.

Good to hear, remember their will always be negative points but I think overall it’s a cracking camera for the money. :)

Not entirely sure, possibly the 200-500 f56 but may prefer something going from 100mm
The Sigma 100-400mm is very good. Should be ample reach for motorsport and is considerably lighter than the 200-500mm.

If you are interested in 50mm/1.0 I can ask him. Last time I checked he still had it. It's not a lens that sells easily by looks of it.

Well, I'd love to but it'll be a lens for collecting, rather than using. My money is needed to flush out my Sony system a bit first before I can buy things that i don't need. I will have to keep that in mind though, it sure is one for the collection.

For those who are interested this rumor site carries a bit on the rumoured upcoming Canon mirrorless cameras...

http://thenewcamera.com/canon-affordable-fullframe-mirrorless-in-2019/

What they say...

"According to latest rumors surfaced over the web, Canon is working on two different series of Fullframe mirrorless cameras, first they will announce High-End Mirrorless camera on Sep 2018 and after making 6 to 7 months of gap from pro mirrorless announcement they will introduce a new lower tier series camera to reach out more people. That clearly indicates the second (affordable) FF mirrorless announcement will happen in 2019 for sure.

Same strategy is being followed by Fuji and Sony, After Sony A9 ($4498 amazon.com) was announced back on April 2017 and once the sales number are reached to a certain point Sony introduced Sony A7 III ($1998 Amazon.com) camera on Feb 2018 with almost same core specs as of Sony A9 (Same sensor and same AF system) and all those with a price less than $2500 compared to Sony A9 flagship camera.

One more important thing that Source mentioned is “a really nice solution for EF lenses on the full frame mirrorless body” . That also silently confirms, no native EF Mount based Fullframe Mirrorless camera is coming."

That's nice :D

I think it's the same in a lot of manufacturing. Tesla does the same, you do the Halo car first, throw in all the tech at the high end one to get people excited, charge high so there is the profit margin to be hard then later with lower models, at this point hopefully some of the cost of R&D has been already paid for.

What does high end mean in this case though, 1D or 5D?

Hello,

Looking to buy into the Sony system, not quite sure what to get. Have a budget of approx. £1,000, don't mind going down the used alley either.

Starting from scratch at the moment and therefore lens needs to be a decent all rounder.

I was thnking of the A7S as it's a FF with 4K video capabilities.

f56, aye? I can picture it now, off for a whole days shooting, only to come home to a folder full of photos like this...

I’ve just done the same thing.
A7II used from LCE. 400 clicks £799. Added the nifty fifty. £179, not the fastest thing to focus but good image quality.
I don’t do video though.

Same here, picked up the original A7 and the Sony 24-70 f4 for just over £1k.

I came from a NEX 7 which I sold.

I kept the E 16-50 Pancake lens which I occasionally use if I want the camera very small and light and want to take "snaps".. only 11MP APS-C but saves having a second NEX body. Video works well on the lens as it's a motorised zoom.

Will take a look, last time I was out shooting (last year) the 200mm almost wasn't wide enough so having 100mm would be good.

that 16-35 is nice
16-35 by dancook1982, on Flickr

Sure is... quality piece of glass.
Now that you've had Sony for a while, what do you think overall to the system, bodies and lenses?
Miss anything about the Leica / DSLR's you have used in the past?
Do you see yourself sticking with Sony long-term?

Carrying around 2 x gripped A9s this morning with 16-35 and 100-400 should get me back into shape...

I love having a versatile setup with little worry about having the right tool for the job. Having better flash support than the Leica is welcome too.

The Leica Q I kept, and I'm glad - because it's a more intimate tool, and over and above the M10 the AF lets me capture moments more quickly.

I feel like i will stick with this setup for a while, I wouldn't mind a higher MP camera like A7R4 for things like wildlife and macro.
