Being f2.8 is the only thing wrong with it but other than that it's a very good lens. You should at least take a look at it :D

And remember, it’s a nice little lens both in size & weight.
Ideal pairing with the Zeiss 55mm f1.8 for a small travel two lens setup.

Keeping the 55 1.8, 16-35 and adding the 35 1.4 to the 35 2.8 I have. I’ll buy another 85 at some point - but I rarely use it. I want to buy the 70-200 & I’ll pickup a 24-70, but part of me wonders if I should just go adapted. I’ve got an MC-11 coming, so I’ll give something a shot. Any suggestions welcome!

If you can get on a used Canon 24-70 f2.8 II is a good combo with the MC-11

Don't bother with the Tamron G2, tried it but doesn't work well with the MC-11 unfortunately.

I assume the Sigma Art would be ok but I've read very mixed things about it whereas the Canon is epic (IQ / sharpness wise better than the Sony GM by most accounts)

Hmm. I was leaning towards the Sigma because the MC-11 with a Sigma lens does all the AP-C, eye AF modes etc. Not 100% sure what the Canon does - there doesn’t seem to be any info out with it on an A7RIII, A7III or A9, from what I can see!

i think that Brian Smith guy has some bits on this website about what focus options are available for each body via the different adapters, and how well different lenses perform.

Do you stick with own brand flash gear Raymond?

I have 3 Godox 685’s and whilst they work flawlessly with the transmitter, as a master the shoe of the flash doesn’t sit well on a Nikon’s mount, there’s movement that I don’t like. Haven’t looked at the phottix version or others yet.

Last wedding I did, used nano stands but will beef those up next time. Looks like you’re using a decent stand?

if you can live with the cheaper build quality then the 35mm sammy is a no brainer.

Yeah, a couple downsides but thats reflected in the price, main thing is optically it looks very good and the OOF is nice. Its taken me a while to decide on the 35 as no option is "best" in every way.
 
...I have enough time to return the Samyang and order the Zeiss if I do change my mind though, its been an annoying decision tbh.

True, I was just thinking about the overall size of them..... the 35mm f2.8 is relatively small. :)

its tack sharp from wide open and AF is just so snappy. One of the reasons I am still holding onto it instead of going for GM or canon 85mm/1.2

I have 4 x Canon 600EXRT, a spare Yongoun 600-EXRT copy and a Yongoun trigger. So 5 flashes in total. The reason I have 4 is because 2 are off camera, and then 1 flash each on each body, I have one of the 20/24/35/50 mm on the body and just whatever body I pick up, there is a flash attached, I don’t want to be keep changing lenses or keep moving the flash on/off the hot shoes between cameras. Plus you can connect 2 Master flashes into the slaves at the same time.


I don’t use the Yongoun because it’s capacitor inside is rubbish, for every 5 shots bursts, the Canon will fire all 5 and the Yongoun will fire like twice max. It is terribly inconsistent. It’s merely a backup (I think I only used it in 2 jobs). The trigger I only use in a studio situation where I don’t need fill from the hot shoe, it works fine but weirdly it’ll drain any battery inside even if its off. I also have some strobes with its own trigger so that isn’t really needed.


The Canon Speedlite is expensive but I find them reliable and predictable, the most important thing tbh. If I have it on 1/128th power, a set of 4 AA eneloop inside can last the whole evening.

The light stands are by Bowen.

Mmmm its cheap right.... go for it... if not I am sure other people would love to be able to buy the Sony A7 at that price (me) ;) lol

I’m willing to chance it, there will be others. And I’ve not 100% made up my mind what to get. I want the A7iii so I’m probably best just waiting til October time and buying one then rather than do a half hearted job now.
