The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

A7iii, probs Samyang 35 1.4, FE 85 1.8, or maybe Zeiss 35 1.4. Currently just getting more and more p***ed off of waiting without a confirmed date.
Good setup :) why not ditch the Zeiss 35 f1.4 and Samyang 35mm f1.4 and go for the Zeiss 55mm f1.8 and Zeiss 35mm f2.8? :)

got any tips on how to get wedding gigs? or even engagement shoots?

•You need to have a portfolio to show that you can shoot weddings or at least people. keep it tasteful.

•take your camera to every wedding you attend. Without getting in the way make sure you get some killer shots.

•get permission and share killer shots with family/friends.

•do some couple shots of friends. If you can demonstrate you can take nice looking photos of ordinary looking people this will appeal. They will share with their friends and then word of mouth starts.

•be prepared to do a couple for little or no money.

•be nice to the girls in local bridal shop and leave cards/leaflets for them to hand out.

•include a pre wedding/engagement shoot in your wedding package. Gets couple used to having their photo taken and helps build rapport. Research good urban and rural locations for the shoots.

•be nice on social media.

@JJ! You had any news yet

I am a HUGE lover/advocate/user of the 35mm focal length, 50% of my shots are of that focal length but I just can’t bring myself to get the Zeiss 35 (1.4 or 2.8). This should be a no brainer but from what I’ve seen this lens is mediocre, especially for the money. It’s large without the sharpness to go with it, it has CA and it’s not the sharpest, certainly the QC is just not there for this lens. My Canon 35 just beats it on every level. The 2.8 version although small, it is too slow.

I am going to wait for the Sigma to see how it compares, I am sure there will be plenty of direct comparisons reviews out soon. If there is 1 glass I should get it native for maximum performance it is the 35mm. The Zeiss doesn’t give me confidence to a point where I went for the 50/1.4 instead…I am that unsure. One down side of the Sigma 35 however is that I know the Canon 35 beats that too….it was the same debate I had with myself when I originally had the 35L mk1 for years when the Sigma comes out and it was sharper (by tests), but I prefer the look of my 35L more so never ever felt the need to swap to the Sigma, so I would ask myself why would I get a Sigma 35 for the Sony when I had written it off for my Canon.

Perhaps I am doomed to stick with an adapted 35L on the Sony for eternity. I guess it is both a blessing but also a constant reminder that Sony don’t make something like their 50/1.4 level of lens for the 35mm which is a shame.

Or I can just suck it up and get the Zeiss, or go to a store to try one in person for a good copy.

How is the canon working on the Sony? If it’s good enough why not just use that instead?

The sigma will work on a Sony the same way it does on a dslr optically. Its the same lens! Just lookup all the thousands of comparisons out there already.

You never know….a small part of me is hoping they have made tweaks internally! As it is, the Sigma has issues with focus, I know someone who has upgraded from the Sigma 35 to the Canon 35L mk2 because of this. Focusing on the Sigma is iffy.

As it stands, it is a tossup between a adapted Canon 35L mk2 vs the Zeiss 35/1.4.

The Canon works fine generally, but you don’t get half the focus modes, is this worth £1500??? Probably not.

Zeiss needs to make their own Batis 35 or something.

Just had email from Wilkinsons, expected week beginning 16th April, check your email?

Yes, got mine too....Can't wait!

I will wait to get some primes, I need the zooms first so what's best place to buy the 24-70GM & 70-200GM from, please?

I've had 5 sigma 35s in various mounts. None were iffy besides a small micro adjust, that doesn't effect a mirrorless anyway due to design.

Sony and zeiss need to sort their s*** QC out.

Pretty aggressive pricing. A9 aimed at pros. A73 most balanced camera they offer. Was always going to sell like hot cakes

The A73 is 20% more expensive than the A72 launch price, isn't it possible they just took the available technology and pushed it out at cost rather than it being a clever sales strategy? 2k is still a lot for a camera, it's just a bargain compared to the 3-4k monstrosities.

The Sigma best case scenario will perform as it does on DSLR. It's the same optical design. The Canon will never work as well tracking moving subjects etc as a native lens like the Zeiss or even the Samyang

I don't think that's a fair analysis of the sony zeiss.

Looking at dxo, Sony has higher transmission, less vignetting and higher CA (which is pretty common for most zeiss lenses and I have owned a LOT of them since shooting sony a-mount). canon is only marginally sharper.

QC is an issue but it is possible to get a good copy of the lens. Its not like every single copy out these is bad. There are more good ones than bad, just that people that get bad ones tend to be more vocal especially on the internet.
