The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

1 thing I have noticed.

5D4 RAW files, average 35mb
A73 RAW files, average 50mb

5D4 is 30mp vs 24mp of the A73, both uncompressed, what's going on?

To be fair, even the Sigma lenses are on the higher side, there is no alternative to some of them for FE mount. Plus they are tried and tested lenses on other mounts so optically we already know they are great.

Finally Lightroom is updated!

About time, the output I was getting from the Sony converter was not good, managed to destroy any text with its noise reduction then turning it off led to a single line running down the middle of every photo...

Both 14 bit? If so I can only conclude that Canon are adding some lossless compression even if they’re saying they’re uncompressed. My D750 is 24mp and RAW files average 28-30mb IIRC, so 30mp lossless compressed would be mid 30’s based on this.

No idea what the 5D4 bitrate, I never touched it out of the box except select the normal RAW file, I'd say it average between 35-40 but the A73 are around 49mb. There's a 20% difference which is surprising especially lower resolution.

Good thing I didn't go for A7R3 !

An uncompressed 6000 x 4000 bitmap works out to be about 45MB so I'd guess your A73 raw file is uncompressed and the 5D4 is using lossless compression as snerkler suggests.

Is the Sig 35 mega noisy in CAF? I do use it for video occasionally, would be a bit annoying, considering the Sony 35 2.8 is silent.

My small Sony start up system is now:

A7R3
70-200 2.8
35mm 2.8
Couple of Hoya HD filters

Need another battery then all set. Actually some faster and bigger SD cards too!

I’m not really missing a lot coverage wise from my D750 (70-200, 50, 28) but obviously the prime is a lot slower.

A 24-70 or 24-105 will probably come later this year depending on how much I miss the wide of the 28 or length of the 50.

Luckily the switch over for me has not been as expensive as it could have been due to getting the 70-200 cheap.

What SD cards are people using? Are the new all singing all dancing and expensive SD cards needed for stills?

I am using the Sony SF-G 64GB 300mb/s SD cards for Slot 1 and Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB 300mb/s SD cards for Slot 2. :D

Decent set up, compact when needed but can get down the business when required :)

Went to a safari park yesterday. Was cursing the lack of reach I had a just had the 100mm STF with me. Here’s a close focus shot in the car. SOOC sent to phone
