It’s a specialty lens with a built in APD filter, gives you that extra background effect, downside is that at f2.8 it works like a f5.6 lens due to the loss of light related to the APD.
I will have to look I to it, sounds interesting...

@JJ! the 100-400mm could be good shout for equestrian too, I know you said you fancied more reach than the 70-200mm at times. Got some nice pop to it, looks impressive. Mind you so it should be considering the price

Seems Sony have sorted the skin tones out with the latest gen A7's/A9

No doubt Jim will test the A7 III at some point.
He has retested the Sony A9 to be sure and the results were the same, no AA filter on the Sony A9.
Really surprised Sony didn’t market it as having no AA filter as it could be seen as a plus point.

I thought it was well known that it didn't have an AA.
Originally Minolta made the 135mm STF lens which was manual focus only. Reason being it's hard AF with the way light is effected by the APD element. Sony then released a rebranded version of it on a-mount.
So the innovative bit of all this is that now you are able AF with a STF lens which isn't possible on DSLRs.
It's still a f2.8 lens with transmission or t-stop of T5.6 (the 135mm is also a f2.8 with T4.5). The Fuji 56mm f1.2 also has a lighter APD filter which results in T1.8. so the e-mount has the strongest filter of the lot and hence a more pronounced STF effect all while retaining good AF![]()
TC is a good shout, although might make it even more front heavy.I guess it depends if the current Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 is long enough for you @ JJ
The FE 100-400mm GM is f4.5 - 5.6, so if your ok with the Sony 70-200mm f2.8’s reach (even with 1.4x TC) you’d be better off in terms of light gathering ability.
Yes Sony have improved the colour science in there latest bodies![]()
I was thinking for his outdoor cross countryBit slow for indoors isn't it?

Good! I was concerned about this 400mm queue..![]()
2 full frame cameras, 35mm and 85mm lenses and a drone all in a small messenger bag. Love the portability of the Sony cams
The Mavic Air is unbelievable, what a marvel of engineering that is

The video quality is incredibly good. The automated intelligent flight shots is exactly what I wanted for wedding films ! So handyLooks awesome, been checking these out, can't think of many uses at the moment, just want.
I had the exact same dilemma. The range is better on the pro with the ocusync but the video quality is much better on the air with the 100mbps video at 4k.I’m going to get another drone soon. Toss up between the air and the mavic pro.

The pro actually looks really big in comparison.
The intelligent flight modes, better video quality and tiny form factor made the Air a better choice for me
Also after abit if digging there seemed to be alot of QA issues with the pro

Was there a discussion recently about the 55mm f1.8 and that it's not that sharp? I can't comment on this but looking at sample images it does render nicely![]()
It's razor sharp. I really like it but I suspect I'll be mainly using 35-85 lenses for weddings. Was there a discussion recently about the 55mm f1.8 and that it's not that sharp? I can't comment on this but looking at sample images it does render nicely![]()
