The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Trouble is when using DX mode on D750 I kept framing things wrong as you still see the whole image just with an inner frame!

Damn it, I was relying on you to compare the AF compared to the D750 ;)

Exactly why I want a high res camera next.

Lol ;)

That's exactly my thoughts, I could choose a lighter lens than the 150-600mm and still have the same effective reach, well almost as it would be 18mp vs 24mp.

Only 10mp though. Obviously plenty in most situations, but if you still need to crop further it can start to degrade IQ. I sometimes wish I had 1200mm reach

I believe it will meter slightly differently in DX mode, but I don't think it's enough to worry about. I don't use DX mode on the D750 and crop in post though, mainly due to it not changing the framing through the VF. If I had something like the A7riii I think I would shoot in DX more often rather than cropping in post tbh. Would keep file sizes down too ;)

Soon maybe! Off to Park again this weekend (the London one) to try out the A7R3.

Yeah it's not always easy, hence why I don't use it and crop after. Having the true DX frame being shown does have its advantages. IIRC I had this on my A77-II, when I put it into DX mode the VF was filled with the DX crop image. I believe the A7's and A9 work the same.

Try them both if you can mate

Well the metabones adapter arrived today. Just need to wait on camera now. :(

Mine too, in advanced mode it's almost psychotic, instantly jumps from completely out of focus to locked on but it does seem better in green box mode or whatever it's called compared to the Sigma adapter.

In other news a lot of prices have dropped in my local Sainsbury's. I saved over £1 today!

Only another 1500 shopping visits and I'll be able afford an upgrade :D

A7 / A7s / a7rii
Ahh OK. I'm trying to get a serious idea of how the A7riii AF compares to the D750 (my reference). I'm trying to work on a master plan to find funds from somewhere, just need to find somewhere that sells seeds for money trees ;)

I'll sell you one for £3200 exactly.

T&C: no refunds, and money growth may vary from person to person, capital may be at risk

Trying to make me your test subject first!

Sure am ;)

Not sure mate. You'd need to try it out.
Yeah I will test it, but the trouble is it's a very different scenario trying a camera out in store, or even in the street outside compared to real life sports events and low light which is why if I can get a general real world consensus it would help. Unfortunately all comparisons I've seen all look at detail and sharpness against cameras like the D850 rather than AF-C.

The D850 is still an option, but of late I've found I actually prefer using my EM1 over the D750, except for the obvious IQ and AF-C difference hence why the A7 has peaked my interest.

Just out of interest, when do Panamoz normally start listing on their site? I know official release date isn't until 10th/11th April or so, but just curious whether I should start thinking about shifting my gear now or holding out a while?

The A7iii? It’s released here already, surely it will be out in Japan and Hong Kong too?

AFAIK it was released at the photography show for those who went, but the majority of customers are still awaiting the "official" launch date. I'm just impatient and wanted to see what deals are to be had by buying grey.

Park are getting deliveries all the time according to their site, and Clifton say deliveries mid March which obviously has already passed. US seems to be April though, does that mean the UK has had something before the US for once? I would imagine (although is an assumption) that Panamoz will list as soon as they go on sale in the US, but you could email Tina if you want to know for sure.

Forgive my ignorance, but who's Tina?

HK price is about 1650 quid from what I've seen, add a bit for profit, my guess is around 1750-1800 quid at release.

Clifton now saying more stock due mid April (on bodies only)

Not a bad saving, I'll probably hold fire for the minute rather than pre-ordering then.

The deal at Wilkinson was very good. Also, they are still offering 3 additional yr warranty if you pre-rder and now an mc11 for 100 quid off. So call that 1800 quid. Personally I'd rather have that than an 1800 quid import.

I'm gutted that I missed the Wilkinson deal. I'm going to have a look about over the next couple of days and make a decision. Coming from a Canon 6D with its 11 AF points will be a bit of a shocker haha.

Was a great deal that. Do you think it was an oversight from them?

Will you be using your canon glass?

When I was with the DSLR I use to have the Peak Design Clutch which is a fantastic product it never came off the camera as It was that good and keep the camera in my hands..

BUT since I got the Sony A7iii the Clutch never worked in my favour on it due to the size of the camera and the placement of the buttons. So I invested myself a Cuff and again another Fantastic product from Peak Design. In fact every Peak Design product I have got are excellent they have put in a lot of though how they make their product and the usability of the products too. I have their Messenger Shoulder bag I really like this very much indeed everything is in the correct place. OF course the Sling Strap which now many of us got once it attach correctly it a brilliant strap.

To start with, but I'll be buying at least one piece of native glass when I get the camera too. Still not 100% decided which, but 50mm is one of my most used focal lengths, so possibly the 55 1.8

They say it delivers its best image quality at ISO 50 but I thought the A73 base ISO was 100?
I think it must be a misprint as it says base iso of 50, but 50 is the expanded ISO. I can’t see expanded iso being the best so would imagine they meant 100, but you never know ;)

In that case the mc11 may be a good idea as part of your package and that brings your UK price down.
