The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

You are right in fairness, I would love to have it, just money won't allow. In fairness, to some extent you can still see your exposure in the viewfinder on a DSLR. Agree though, 100 x better on mirrorless.

You can see the exposure, and to tell you the truth I can do it by experience now. I can walk into a room and can pretty accurately guess what aperture, shutter speed and ISO I need without checking, and how many stops I need to manually adjust if I turn this or that way.

A DSLR shows you the needle but when it’s back lit it’s wrong. That’s when you manually compensate.

I have some images taken from an A9 in the exact light as I was shooting at the weekend coming later or tomorrow.

I know it’s not the A7iii but it will hopefully give me an idea how it compares to the D750 in the light situations I find myself in. This is of course not the same light or situations that most people will find themselves in or ever be in!

Yes, true :)

Put the phone down and this thread moves 100mph! Will need to sell any Nikon gear first. Hoping that video pixel thing isn't major issue as need the Sony for hybrid shooting.

Get it sold pal

Clarify what you mean?

I see you've a thread about gear for a wedding, I think an A7III would make your life as easy as any camera could right now (aside from A9), if it's in budget.

If you in the game of capturing moments - it will give you the most keepers.

I photograph weddings, events, play rehearsals, music performance, some sports in the summer - generally just everything with people in.. the A9 (but A7III on a budget) really is the ultimate camera for this kind of work right now.

I've photographed a play rehearsal with a 50mm 1.4 manual focus lens on my M10 and I feel I did well - but it was so intense.. I got some nice compositions - but when I used the A9 I got all the wow moments.

I don't have a thread about gear for weddings, I have a thread about getting stated with weddings that states I already know what gear I need ;)

But yeah, you are right. I would love the get the A7iii but for me, until I earn some money from photography I just can't afford it + the lenses I would want.

I cannot deny that I have gear envy with the A7III, but for now I am going to go for the D750 that will allow me to get the lenses I need. The only way I could do the Sony is if I went A7III + 35MM 2.8 + 85MM 1.8 which isn't really anywhere near what I would need.

A back lit subject with auto exposure will get you an unexposed subject.

With experience now I know how much I need to compensate before I hit that shutter to about half a stop, enough for me to fix in post, but with EVF, I can just dial it nailed on.

Ah, sorry I misread your post. For some reason I thought you were talking about the backlit SENSOR not the subject. Yes, I am stupid. Thanks for the reply though. :)

True, needs and budget dependant I guess :)

I suspect for a lot of people they are following the crowd.
You mean following me? Hehe I been using Sony for some time. I have

Yes budget is very important. I have I bet if you had the budget you would grab the mk3 without thinking?

I found the Sonys excellent in many ways but they left me cold regarding feeling any connection to.

I really want to love the a9, today was an interesting day for me shooting with a mate who just got his, as much as the a9 is an incredible camera his struggled today with BIF against the snow, my 1DX2 on the other hand seemed to be doing well, also and here is the big shocker is his a9 seemed to be missing focus, focus seemed to prioritise on larger areas of the bird (I put faith in his ability to use the focus system), I use single point servo on the canon and it tracks well, I try to keep focus on the head of the bird, other surprising problem was Moire!, The a9 seems to suffer with fine feather detail! Tbh we are both a little confused, he is going to send the a9 back to be checked as surely this can not be right, sadly I don't know enough about the Sony to be able to advise him to what to do.. only other thing we found is the Canon seemed to have richer/deeper colours, we both know this is easy corrected in post, once the Camera is checked over I hope to have a good session with it, perhaps get my meter setup to the a9 and have some studio time.. I'd like to add one to my gear but for now I am waiting to see what the results are once he gets it back.

No. The way you put across the initial news about a discount was executed poorly.

You should have said.

Hey all I found an epic discount on the camera. It may be a price error so inclined to give up the source just yet!

Simple

What a strange thing to say to someone. “With the benefit of hindsight and a complete overreaction by random internet strangers, you really should word your posts in a non-ambiguous way, such that nobody can ever question you, nor be offended.”

Making mountains out of molehills. I’ve been more than happy to help people in such a way that’s mutually beneficial. To post publicly helps nobody, which is why I’ve been happily disclosing to people who have PM’d me. I owe nothing to random internet strangers, nor should anyone else here.

You appear to want me to hold a moral compass higher than that of Jesus.

I’m drawing a line here. If anyone wants help - message me, I’m happy to assist. If you’re looking to berate me for, ultimately, sharing the love - don’t bother, I ain’t interested. :)
