I have to say the tech in these new cameras are bloody ridiculous. It used to take a lot of skill to get a moving subject, now with Eye focus AF and all these phase detection focus points it makes the whole game a bit too easy…makes me think anyone can be a good photographer :p

Seriously though, one of the harder shots to get in a wedding is when the bride walks down the aisle towards me. Often the door will open, it throws the exposure all out the window and she walks forward. Sometimes they leave the door open and sometimes they closes the door (then need to readjust). It takes skill to get the exposure right from a back lit person walking towards you, sometimes in rather low light situations too. Older cameras you only get crossed points focus (centre point) so to compose the photo, work out exposure, and get the focus is not easy. You don’t really have time to chimp and see the exposure to correct yourself, at best is you take a pre-shot before the door opens to get the exposure and if there are lots of light flooding in, you compensation using your experience. All this before you get a nice expression.

Now I can see the exposure, the camera tracks the face and eye, all these phase detection points means it’ll be happy that I can compose way off centre if I want. So now I compose the shot, hold down Eye-AF then just shoot for the moment and not having to worry about exposure since I can see it live and not worry about focus since it’s amazing.

Who wouldn’t want this in their kit?

Although that’s me talking……………I wonder how it actually stack in for real…………..

Spot on there mate.

You be using Wide AF with eye AF for weddings ?

It's hilarious. The amount of willy waving and arguments that go on in this thread is equally hilarious. Tell people you bought something and got a discount but don't disclose it to every Tom, Dick & Harry that may want it and you're an insta Judas.

The internet, don't you ever change.
I best not mention my US trip later this year then.

I’ll probably go for spot with Large square selection and use that to frame. This is so it doesn’t accidentally pick a different face than the bride in the crowd.

Can we still use eye af in that mode I not tried it

No. The way you put across the initial news about a discount was executed poorly.

You should have said.

Hey all I found an epic discount on the camera. It may be a price error so inclined to give up the source just yet!

Simple

I can’t watch the vids at the mo as I’m away, what’s the issue?

From a restaurant half way up Montjuïc via the cable cars.

Most horrendous meal I’ve ever had out.
Decent view though. Also got a few shots of the rain coming down in the distance.
Ahh right, no wonder I didn’t see that view, no way I could get my wife on a cable car  Had to go up the Towers of Sagrada Familia by myself too, but probably a good job as that staircase down from the Nativity tower is probably the most dangerous staircase I’ve ever seen  ;)

Yea try lock on expandable af point large

I used this for a play rehearsal - it is AMAZING... I just point it at the person -they suddenly get a big rectangle covering their entire visible body then the camera sticks to them like glue..

I'm shooting f2.8 at this point - not f1.4 which I might be more likely to use eye AF for

I got a “double” discount for my 35L mk2.

Canon had cashback of £150 or so.

Website listed the price with cashback showing, however it says in small print (after cashback).

Some reason I notice amazon algorithm picked up on this and they matched it. So bought via amazon then claim cash back via canon.

Viola £300 off.

I also had a proper pricing error for the 100L and got it for £480 or something.

The problem is, you've spent that much money and it will probably make 0 difference to the final result. Some can justify that. I can't.

Maybe but no where as easy as the Sony does it.

Clarify what you mean?

I see you've a thread about gear for a wedding, I think an A7III would make your life as easy as any camera could right now (aside from A9), if it's in budget.

If you in the game of capturing moments - it will give you the most keepers.

I photograph weddings, events, play rehearsals, music performance, some sports in the summer - generally just everything with people in.. the A9 (but A7III on a budget) really is the ultimate camera for this kind of work right now.

I've photographed a play rehearsal with a 50mm 1.4 manual focus lens on my M10 and I feel I did well - but it was so intense.. I got some nice compositions - but when I used the A9 I got all the wow moments.

See another says the Sony makes it so much easier

You are right in fairness, I would love to have it, just money won't allow. In fairness, to some extent you can still see your exposure in the viewfinder on a DSLR. Agree though, 100 x better on mirrorless.

Yeah WEX. Valid for 28 days but if they don’t get stock it’s no good!

If you pre order they hold your trade in value. They will get some pretty soon surely.

Or is this going to be hard to get camera?

Put the phone down and this thread moves 100mph! Will need to sell any Nikon gear first. Hoping that video pixel thing isn't major issue as need the Sony for hybrid shooting.
