It's probably down to the additional contrast detect points but this doesn't prove that the Sony A7 III's AF system is better/faster than the Sony A9's.![]()
All it proves is its much better at Eye AF acquisition and tracking

Correct, these new 3rd generation Sony bodies have really pushed the performance upwards. All it proves is its much better at Eye AF acquisition and tracking![]()
I'll only be happy with a camera that can read my mind..
KFC innit, finger lickin gud!You would like a zinger meal with hot wings.
It's a laugh because we are happy with Sony's 3rd generation body range, spirits and moods are high......Ha ha are this joke coming back what laugh it been in here these days
I knew you were going to say thatI'll only be happy with a camera that can read my mind..

Yeah like we believe youEmptied the coffers and got a 100-400 GM for tonight
So as I suspected my used gear is worth just under £4100 meaning I could sell my Nikon D750, 70-200mm f2.8 VRII, 24-120mm f4, 18-35mm f3.5-4.5G, 50mm f1.8G, Sigma 85mm f1.4 EX DG, Tamron 150-600mm, Sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro OS HSM, Olympus EM1, 12-40mm f2.8 pro, 40-150mm f4-5.6 R and 45mm f1.8 and buy a grey A7riii and 70-200mm f2.8 and still be £200 out of pocket
Now let me think what I'm going to do![]()
Is anyone going from a D750 to the A7 III or made a similar switch to a Sony full frame? I was looking for a better hybrid solution as video is important. I'd need to replace the 24-70 for run and fun and then get the 28/55/85 for primes. Is the 28-70 good enough for video work?
Does anyone have the 28? I'd look to invest in that to keep the camera size down for smaller projects.
Still mulling the decision as wanted to see if Nikon finally go mirrorless this year but don't want to be a beta tester.
Did you read my post at all, especially the bit about saying I could buy the A7riii and 70-200mm GREY and still be £200 out of pocketAre you averse to buying panamoz/digrev?
A7riii £2,500 there and 70-200 just shy of £1,900.
Still a lot of notes but a considerable saving compared to high street prices.

Speculate to accumulate. That one don’t wash with my Mrs anymore. As was great at speculating though..
Well I have a good reason - getting a photo of every student in the orchestra will provide parents the opportunity to buy said photos. This lens will help that along.
I have this lens, I had the 35 2/8 too but sold it, as I prefer the angle of view of the 28 and the IQ is every bit as good as my copy of the 35mm.Is anyone going from a D750 to the A7 III or made a similar switch to a Sony full frame? Not the best test tbh, DOF is so big that everything's in focus so no way to tell how accurate focus has been.

Looking at the eye AF on that, is it a two button process, i.e. one button to press and hold to track using eye AF and then the shutter button to take the shot?
That could be down to various reasons, its not really a lab based test so should be taken with a pinch of salt.
TBH from my experience people don't know the difference between DLSR and mirrorless. I've spoken to endless people that say they've got DSLRs and then when I ask which model it ends up being a mirrorless. Sometimes it's even a bridge cameraI don't know about you Riz but I don't shoot in a lab, I shoot in the real world so that's as good a test that needs to be done really.
I'm back from my guest spot at Liverpool College. I asked the students what they shoot and results are in.....
30 students - 28 mirrorless, 2 DSLR (except the 'mirrorless' are iPhones and Instax)
Most of them gave me a blank look when I asked them about mirrorless so maybe it's not quite taking over the young photographers' world just yet!
