The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I set myself a budget of £13,000 based on Two A9 bodies and 4 Lenses....

Then I remembered ...cards.. batteries.. grips.. flash ... eek

Managed to squeeze it all in and should still come in under budget even with flashes, I might had to grab myself some kind of camera strap..

A9 x 2 + 24-70 2.8 GM £7300
85mm 1.4 GM + 35 1.4 ZA + 2 Batteries £2420.20
70-200 2.8 £1855
Sony Trigger for AD600 Lights £45.99
Memory Cards 128x2 300mb/s 64x2 95mb/s £527.36
VG-C3EM Grip x 2 £561.44

Total £12664

Yup. Go all in or go home hehe

Ordered the Blackrapid double breath harness, can wear them as single or double, takes me to £13006.. i think i'm done.
Ooops I have two Black Rapid straps too..... lol.
The RS1 and a RS5 I think :D They are also good straps, just make sure you screw the lugs properly.

Will be sticking with D750 for a bit - but its good to look at prices and see what I need to save!!!

Did you call a local (or one of the bigger) camera shops with your shopping list and ask them to give you a good price? If I had £13k burning a hole in my pocket, i'd be on the blower to find a deal, for sure.

Has there been a firm release date for the A7iii?

A9s and 24-70 were bought from harrison camera, from their used stock.

They gave a quote for almost everything I wanted at a discounted rate, but I saved a further grand on that by shopping around.

I've found that Harrison's deals aren't as good as they used to be tbh.

Can’t wait for Sony to release a FE 135mm f1.8 G Master.
Rumour suggests Sony are making a 24mm f1.4 G Master next
I’m switching to Sony when the A7 iii is released from a Canon system, the two lenses I have are the Canon 135L and Sigma 24mm F1.4 Art. I will be interested to see if Sony can beat the E mount versions of the Sigma Art 135 f1.8 and the 24mm.
In the short term I will using the Canon mount lenses on the Sony A73 with the Sigma MC11 converter.

Anyone using the A7ii for weddings. I have been mulling over getting an A7iii since stumbling across it. The eye detection thing and the prospect of silent shooting has given me an itch to scratch.

Granted the A73 isn’t out yet, but are the people shooting weddings with A72 happy with it. Do you think any drawbacks you have experienced will be resolved with the release of the A73.

Have I just fallen for the marketing hype? I think I might rent one and take it to my next wedding.

Thanks

So do you want to know about the a7II or A7III? IMO they are going to be two very different cameras.

Massive improvements in the a7iii over A7ii in terms of AF by the looks of it. Addition of 4K video. Dual card slots etc.

So its almost a new camera. More 'baby A9' than 'next a7II'

I’m going to pop to Park Cameras next week just to get a feel of them as never tried one. Am I right in saying A7Riii is same body design as A7iii?

Hoping they have a 70–200 to try and same time.

I probably wouldn't shoot a wedding with anything less than a a7RII. The a7 and a7II are significantly slower to AF, particularly when light reduces. I'd also struggle without minimum shutter speed control in Auto ISO.

I've used the a7RII for loads of weddings now, it' an absolute dream but I'll be trading up at least one in for an a7III. The AF joystick and dual cards alone make that worthwhile for me, but I'm pretty happy that it's 24mp too as the a7RII files are overkill (but lovely!)

Also, LensesforHire have Sony FE gear now, very happy about that!

I've always thought it'd work out cheaper to buy used and sell on again than rent gear. Depending on equipment you can be talking £100+/day hire.
