The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

A bit of information....

Sony UK don't get to know of any firmware updates until a couple of days before they are announced to the public, they don't know of anything yet for the A9 since the V2 update back in Jan. I did get the impression from speaking to one of the UK heads that there is a lot more they can do with the A9 through firmware updates. They are planning to have the camera on the market for a few years being a pro-level product, so I think it's safe to say that new features will get added. I think S.Log3 and HDR will probably come in the not too distant future.

Careful with that info. Because if Sony rumours site read that. They will slap on a sr5 saying s log and hdr is coming soon and use you as the source lol

Nice to know that users may get some enhancements or even additions.

The nearest I'll get to the outside world today.

A7 and V 35mm f1.4 at f5.6, snow.

I'm not going to say that I'm getting used to this lens as it's a 35mm so I'm pretty conversant with the FoV and getting to grips with the bokeh but... what I am getting used to is having a nicely built lens in the traditional sense in that it's a nicely made metal lens with end stops and markings and an aperture ring, I like the fact that it mounts directly to the body without an adapter and therefore cuts down on the bulk and I like setting the lens up and taking pictures... I used to do this years ago, f5/5.6/8/10, set the focus and just compose and press the button :D Zone/hyperfocal may not always stand up to 100% pixel peeping but for whole pictures viewed normally it's often fine.

And a bit off topic...

I've been banned from LL forum for a week for telling a regular to grow up and not be such a fan boy. He's recently claimed that Nikon invented AF and that Nikon or Canon would never release a camera with such an obvious fault as the A7III banding. (Nikon didn't invent AF and Canikon have had their share of issues with new cameras.) I said I'd get it in the neck as he's a regular and I'm not :D I could give a t@@s about being banned for telling a twit home truths but I don't. I do care or rather feel a little dismayed and sorry that grown men and it's almost exclusively men of a certain age get so invested in a thing that they become so blinkered.

:D

I believe minolta had the first AF lens back in 1985...

If you're lucky, probably more like 1800 on a good day without sill RMSD costs for heavy items. So more like £1750. :(
Is that all for a D750 and 70-200mm VRII? :( :( :(

I don't even know what forum that is

@woof woof - I got the minolta 45mm f2. I must say bokeh is really pleasing, reminded me of bokeh from minolta lenses I had on a-mount. Even minolta zooms gave nice creamy bokeh, they certainly made some nice lenses.

Luminous Landscape is a subscription site.

The main guy died and since then it is IMO a shadow of what it was but it's still worth the $12 a year for the odd good article.

The forums are though a funny place. IMO. Maybe rather like all of the worst of the DPR forums but for posher people. IMO. There are some very technical threads but also some rather odd ones too with IMO a lot of back slapping amongst the small in crowd... people praising very average shots and saying silly things etc...

It's not the first time I've been banned from a forum in fact I wouldn't want to be a member of a forum that would have me.

Yup, dealer will give 830 for a D750 in as new condition (I know), Ebay about the same after fees, probably even less. 70-200 mk2 go on here around the 850-925 mark. So yeah, you'd be lucky to even see that total.

D750 is a crazy bargain at the mo.

I was going to ask how you were getting on so I'm glad that you like it.

The look and character is why I like using the older lenses (and some new ones too like the V 35mm f1.4) and as I keep saying I'd love lenses like the old Rokkors, Zuiko's and FD's that'd mount straight to an A7. Lenses that aren't necessarily world beating but good enough.

Without looking it up...

I thought that Konica/Minolta may have been the first to have a mass market AF camera but I thought that Leica were the first to have it working in a camera... although I'm not sure who actually invented it I don't think it was Nikon. If I'm wrong I'm wrong but that guy is still a blinkered fanboy :D

Correct... Polaroid made the first AF SLR.

Any recommendations on where to purchase in stock Sony A9 Grips? Preferably not at £330..

Any good place for memory cards?

LL = Luminous Landscape... It's all about photography including the gear. The main guy there now seems to be Kevin Raber and he has lots of Sony, Fuji and Olympus MFT kit but most of their vids seem to be done with a Panny GHx of some sort.

I do like some of the articles over there but not so much the forums and TBH I don't really know why I bother/bothered with their forums but at least now I don't have to :D

I'm not too tall but not too short either, I've never really worried too much about it.

Is there a cheapish 50mm avaliable from Sony? It is the lens prices that will cripple my desires!!

I think the cheapest native FE lens is the Sony 50mm f1.8, isn't it?

Just remembered I might need a pair of flashes... any suggestions? weddings/events
Depends on your budget...... I tend to avoid using flashes but when I do I have a pair of Nissin i60A flashes including the Air1. (HSS).
Godox make some cheaper ones too that do the job.
Are if you really want to splash out you could look at Profoto :D lol

A point worth remembering is that you can't use the silent shutter / 20fps with flash.
You'd have to switch to mechanical shutter at 5fps.

Well I have the Godox AD600 equivalents, so could keep to the series.

For hotshoe stuff-
I wondered if the Sony native stuff offered better TTL/HSS options.

I see there's a new HVL-F60RM - maybe it's overkill

The Sony flash offerings seem very expensive, I would go with cheaper ones.
Stick with your Godox and adapt?

I set myself a budget of £13,000 based on Two A9 bodies and 4 Lenses....
