If I am being honest, I am disappointed in myself that I am not shooting with the A9 as much as I wanted to ...... at present, my IT career is too profitable to ditch and wan't to see my current contract through until the end.
The Sony A9 will come out to play eventually :D Hopefully before the A9 II is announced lol!

For most of my life this was true.

I started with a fixed lens camera and I've had that sort of camera for over 40 years, I had a Nikon SLR with just one lens for maybe 20 years or there abouts.

These days I very often take one camera and one lens out but these days I think about what focal length that lens should be... and once I've decided that I think about the look and character I want and choose the lens that suits my mood and subject. Hence the multiple lenses but they are all slightly different :D
 
My personality type is toaquire lots of stuff around what my interest is,but then feel claustrophobic and have to get rid.too much choice confuses me so im
enjoying just the 35mm eq at the moment

I am a software developer that is also a contractor. lead at the moment with a tight deadline! need to deliver so i can buy a 400mm f2,8 lens as a reward lmao

I'm starting to feel left out, since I too write software, but I've never owned a Sony camera!

I am a machine vision integrator, not worked in a permanent role for 24 years!! Currently writing a application for a customer that uses two 4K linescan cameras

Just the thought of going to work makes me woozy now :D I used to sit in meetings listening to people talking cr@p and thinking it was all pointless, doubly so now :D

I fully agree with you there Alan! Unfortunately, at the moment, Chroma won't pay my mortgage so I'll need to stay here for a while longer :(

When I worked in the computer industry that's what I did, work, and very long hours to the point that I had no time to spend the money. When I look back at those hard working years my first thought is that it was the wrong decision and I should have been enjoying life more but balanced against that is the fact that earning a reasonably amount of money but not spending much year after year made it possible to quit work at 49 :D Now I'm pretty much a full time carer and married so still with little time to myself but I'm much happier.

I think Ken may have got this wrong, I very much doubt that Sony sell their bodies at a loss, I believe that the Sony A9 still gives Sony a profit per unit albeit less when compared to the cheaper bodies.
The Sony A9's stack sensor array is what kept the price of manufacturer high for the A9 compared to the other bodies.
I believe Sony Digital Imagine (Di) buy/cost their sensors from the Sony Semi-Conductor Division, both operate differently although Sony Di gain inside information which gives them a head start compared to its rivals. The Sony A9's stacked sensor was in the works over 3 years ago apparently..... which is around when the original A7 came out? That's some road-map!

Sony A9 II will probably dispatch any pro-mirrorless offerings from Nikon & Canon no doubt, who knows...... both Nikon & Canon could easily surprise us all and pull something out of the bag.
Sony are attacking slowly, first the Sony A9, followed by the A7R III and now the A7 III.... wonder if the board of directors of both Nikon and Canon are discussing this very issue. :D

Already seen it..... its a great showing from Sony..... Tony & Chelsea Northrup's review is positive too although I don't remember the A7R III having 45mp ;)
However I am not 100% sure that the AF will be on-par in low-light... this we will need to watch carefully as the A7R III struggled in some situations compared to the A9.

4 years isn't a long time to be fair, look how many decades it has taken Nikon and Canon to prefect the DSLR. :)

The eye AF looked way more accurate on the A7III from the demo I seen

True, but up until the release of the Full-Frame Sony A7, everything else before it mostly went un-noticed. Sony really started to make ground once the A7 was announced and has made great progress since then.
Ticking off peoples concerns and issues as they continue....... I remember when the FE system had a very small number of FE lenses, now we have vastly more.
I guess with Nikon & Canon its hard to innovate without a big shift in technology but they both make very dependable, reliable and proven systems backed by what is arguable a better brand with history/loyalty behind it.

Anything else just isn't good enough. For a lot of "phototographers" cameras/lenses are like handbags to women ie.
Got to have the latest/greatest/most expensive regardless.
It's male jewellery, and if you don't believe me go to any race meeting and see all the "photographers" eyeing up everyone else's gear, and of course size matters!
Sony panders to this lust exceptionally well.

It's probably a little unfair to say the A7 was when people starred taking notice, I'd argue it was Olympus and Panasonic that really started this with the Pen/Lumix lines.
