The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Sony have only been in the business of interchangeable lens cameras for 12 years (A100 was released in 2006), so while there will be some uptake from older experienced photographers who had been using Minolta gear, you would expect the demographic to be younger, as those that had existing gear 13 years ago would, in the main, stay with the brand they had.
Good point, also it's design apps etc would attract younger people also

Its funny using the car industry as an analogy, because in the long run I don't believe Tesla will be the big winners from Electric cars, it'll be one of the traditional makes like Ford, Mercedes or VW that finally crack it,... maybe Canon/Nikon are that equivalent in the camera market?....

Join the club....

dunno. Possibly but who knows?

Anyways the Sigma lenses are lush and if iit works like native, i will grab the 135 or 105

105 could be interesting. still, I'm thinking samyang will release a 135mm this year which could be a good option.

How's samyang 1.4 beasts? Good qc? Good iq? The 35 2.8 is pretty good but noisy af so not great for video work

I'm knocking off early today so going for a quick walk around the block with it as i still haven't taken it out of the house (its a bit big for general purpose).

edit - maybe not. just started snowing again

You can test out the weather sealing then

its a shame nothing on the 25 f2. still, this discount on the 85mm could sway me over the gm

The Batis 85mm f1.8 has its charm and is quicker to focus compared to the GM. Its a hard choice as I know how good they both are.

Some of you guys seem to have bottomless wallets, fair play to you though, the Sony shooters as a demographic seem to be young to early middle age guys

Not at all, cameras are my work tool and the change will eat into our profits. I need reliable and dependable gear and my D750 bodies, while currently great, are getting old.

I'm in my mid-thirties and have gone from loving big camera bodies (d3/D3s/D4 etc) and loads of gear to being quite minimal and preferring smaller cameras (currently have D750 and XT2 bodies). Travelling with mirrorless is so much easier.

If I like the a7iii we'll be getting 4 of them along with 24mm 2x35mm 2x85mm 50mm and 135mm lenses and 2x profoto A1s (when they release their sony version). Every bit of Nikon and Fuji gear we own would be sold if we were to swap.

I got the age correct though :)

I taught a class the other week for mostly over 65s. Was surprised to see a lot of Fuji and Sony mirrorless cameras. Some of these guys were in their 80s so I imagine the heft of DSLRs puts them off - quite a few thought my D750 with a prime was heavy.

thats interesting,im 67 and had DLSR's and never found the weight a problem but what put me off is the possibility of having to MA lenses especially if I had a body that didn't allow that either lol.i cant be doing with the faffing around and if it wasn't spot on it would drive me nuts.
firmly committed to mirrorless from now on but have to be the bottom end price wise.

What are you shooting with now?

Actually I'd like a GAS anonymous group :p

+1

So to buy the A7riii plus lenses to replace what I have for the Nikon would cost me about £7500 if everything was bought grey

I think I’ll be staying a Nikon shooter ;)

Wow thats expensive!!!!

It's always been like this with Sony, the camera is cheap, the real money is in the lenses and accessories.

True, when you consider the A7riii is £300 less than the D850 its actually pretty good.

Images of the Tamron 28-75 mounted show it's a good size, even if it doesn't go to 24mm as a lot of people are unhappy about.

https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/fir...5mm-f-2-8-fe-zoom-mounted-sony/#disqus_thread

Looks like we could have a long wait for it, seems as if the one on show is not a production example but a prototype.

It's because us Sony users are a little more reserved than the in your face Nikon/Fuji fanboys.

Really? There's loads of in your face Sony fanboy's they're just not on here.

Sigma have chosen to go for the fast aperture primes which means they have no option but to be large unfortunately. I haven’t seen a price for the Tamron yet but if it’s reasonable it could sell well as a walkabout.

Quoted as being the same price as the 24-70 f4 Zeiss, circa £900... good luck with that.

I’ve heard it’s going to actually come in cheaper than the Sony Zeiss 24-70mm f4 yet optically match or beat the F2.8 G Master. :)

Seriously? What does that say about the G Master?

Nothing at the moment, not until the reviews are out at the very least.
I suspect the G Master will still be the better out of the two though.
