The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Famous last words... I've had digital cameras since 2003 and I haven't had a card fail yet.

I've had one or two wobbles, maybe, for example years ago I had one picture which didn't appear on the back screen of my Canon DSLR but did load onto my pc ok and more recently files with even (or was it odd) numbers didn't initially copy to my pc and I needed a few goes to get them all but that could have been a pc issue.

When taking pictures for money I suppose you have to be careful though.

The iPad Pro handles Lightroom Mobile and A7rii files without any issue, in fact I do 90% of my editing on the iPad now, it is much quicker than on my 2015 iMac 27”. I only result to the Mac for cloning etc (although this can also be done on LRM). My Mac is running “Classic” CC. Affinity Photo has also been mentioned however I have only just downloaded it so I’m not had chance to play with it much yet. The Northrop’s have done a video of all 3 elements (iPad, LRM & Affinity) and rates them very highly. With regards to the MS Surface, I should imagine it is slower because it is using the full desktop version of LR, this used to be an advantage however LRM has come so far it is virtually a full version of LR without a couple of features (which are available in Affinity).

I would image the Surface would run better with the new Lightroom CC (cloud based)

Hi Chris,

I also have an iPad Pro, I've tinkered with it for editing, curious to know your workflow and file management. I'd like to start using it more :)

Hi Chris,

Certainly my current workflow runs in 2 different ways, dependant on where I am.

For most photography when I’m at home it is as follows:
  1. Import photos onto iMac and into LR Classic auto adding to a Collection which is set to sync with LR Mobile
  2. Carry out image selection and 90% of my editing on the iPad
  3. Finish images on iMac
  4. Export finished images to iPhoto
If I am on holiday it runs as follows:
  1. Before I go I create a folder in LR Classic and set it as the location for LRM files
  2. Create a folder in LRM and set to auto import from my iPad
  3. Whilst I away I import photos onto the iPad (you can only import to Photos) using the SD Card adaptor
  4. These are automatically added to LRM
  5. Carry out culling and start editing
  6. When I get home all the photos are in LR Classic already along with all edits
  7. Finish images on iMac
  8. Delete images from iPad and from Photos
  9. Export FInished images into Photos
Nb This also has the added benefit of giving me a backup solution whilst I am away, photos are automatically sent to my desktop machine and also save in Photos

At the minute I can get the:

A7II
+ 2 year warranty
+ 28-70mm lens
+ samyang 35mm 2.8
+ 32gb 95mb/s sandisk memory card

All brand new for £1250

Extremely tempted to do it and sell up my Fuji Kit

I would also want the 16-35mm (about £700 used)

Within the next year I am looking to start venturing into a bit of wedding/portraiture so my only concern is the lack of dual card slots! Very tempting though

Do you think you may be getting ahead of yourself a little? Stop worrying about dual card slots and try become a second shooter. Please dont become one of those I have a camera and facebook account so I can do wedding people.

Definitely not doing that, just want to be properly equipped. If it takes years to get where I need to be, so be it. I am a full time teacher so won't be rushing into it.

I’ll try this out, I’ll try and work out how to sync between my MBP and iPad

Thank you for this :) [emoji1417]

Looks like Sony had some good cash back deals this Black Friday, anybody buy? :D

Although there have been a few good deals around, Ive been very unimpressed by Black Friday, nothing has made me think “I’ve got to buy that.” I was hoping for a few more deals on GM lenses but nothing.

£150 cash back on some of the G Masters wasn’t too bad I thought. :)

That A6000 deal looked very tempting.

Sure was, I nearly pulled the trigger but I then realised it was just my inner GAS and the need to buy something ok Black Friday at a dirt cheap price.
In the end I have managed to avoid buying anything pointless, only bought kids toys and the odd useful household item :D

£619 for an a7 with 28-70 was pretty darn special.

I've got a cheap old lens coming and then I'm going to put a couple up for sale.

I may get a quality 20mm and I may go for a Sony 85mm f1.8 too next year at some point as they seem to get good reviews and seem to be very be reasonably priced. I have four old manual 85mm lenses and a AF 45mm for MFT so some of those really should go as it's not a focal length I use much but I do fancy having a quality AF 85mm for my A7 for occasional use.

Other than that I don't think I'll be buying much if anything unless something breaks.

I know. I suppose I'll just have to accept that MFT is the better option and stop looking at A6xxx's.

Is it though?
Consolidating your lenses into one mount would be the better option ;)

Y not sell you M4/3rds and get the a6000,you can then use all your lenses

There are advantages in favor of the RF MFT bodies and also in favor of the A6000 but lens wise MFT has the better more compact options. There's no compact 35mm equivalent f1.8 for the A6xxx and there's no standard range f2.8 zoom either and replacing the tiny MFT 9-18mm and 45-150mm lenses would mean buying bigger fatter Sony lenses which would pretty much defeat the point of having a second smaller system below my A7.

I do like the idea of an A6000 but the compact lenses just aren't there at the focal lengths and apertures I'd want and to be honest I can't see them being there any time soon so I'll try to stop wanting an A6xxx.

Grrr you just had to post this ...... the Sony FE 55mm f1.8 is coming out at £549.99 after cash back... seriously tempted!

If you like the 55mm FoV this is a very good lens. I like my old 50mm lenses and I thought I'd never want a better lens than the Sigma 50mm f1.4 I had but this Sony 55mm just crushes everything I've used before. It really is IMO an outstanding lens.

yeah you should definitely pick that up. £550 is not much more than used price. if i could only have 1 lens that would be it.
I couldn't resist it.... :D
Even managed an extra 3% off by using Top Cash Back.....

£699 - 10% - 3% - £80 = £530.22 :o

So much for making it past Back Friday without giving in to Sony GAS!!! :D
