The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I suppose but 24mm isn't all that extreme in that the effects you get with 24mm aren't quite as extreme as you can get with 20mm never mind 12mm.

Thinking back to the 20mm and 12-24mm Sigma lenses the 12-24mm took a lot of care and thought at the wide end whereas I think that 20mm takes care and thought but not quite as much :D while still giving a little more creativity and opportunity for funkiness than 24mm.

I might buy the Tokina.

I had both the Canon and Sony. Sold the canon as the Sony 100-400 performed night and day better on the A9. Check my YouTube video for demonstration. Name is jonneymendoza
Thanks for that Jonney, I'm surprised at how slow the Canon is. Guess the bank is going to take a hammering after all! Happy Christmas to me

Back in the real world ( ;) ) much as I love my Bokina, I've missed a few shots with the MF as toddlers don't tend to stand still (Who knew?!)

Love the 90mm view though, so considering 85mm AF lenses; Sony 85mm f/1.8 FE,f/1.4 GM or Batis f/1.8.
Price-wise I think I can rule out the GM. The Batis gets great reviews but is quite a bit more than the Sony f/1.8, and I like the idea of the AF button on the Sony lens.
Any real-world comparisons on here?

Save the money and get the fe 1.8. Fantastic lens and the assignable button is so useful.

gunna sell my mk2 and possibly my 5d4. that will easily pay for this camera
That would be a good move in my opinion before values drop further.
You have a highly capable kit now having both the Sony A9 and A7R III..... time to sell the rest and also invest in native FE glass :D

I just got the A7r3 today and did a quick buffer test..

video says it all.

shot in compressed raw writing to both card slots.

i will take it with me to abu dhabi along with my A9 to shoot mainly f1

Good video, will be interesting to compare with the Sony A9 side by side including AF differences.
I can't remember off the top of my head but does the Sony A9 allow menu access when clearing the buffer, I don't think it does?
Also does the A9 show both SD card buffers when clearning?

Can you do a side by side test? :D

Jason Lanier did a comparison between the two.. I love mine, wouldn't change it .

Anyone any idea about availability on the 24-105? Not heard any noises about a date

e infinity told me two days ago that early December was when they expected Sony to start supplying them. They couldn't be more specific than that.

Thanks Trev thats good to know, I think I did read Nov 30th somewhere so that would tie in, I should be in the first batch of pre-orders (I was for the A7riii before I cancelled my initial order), back to Germany after Christmas so would be handy!

It seems a good lens for the money, might be a nice one lens travel setup :D

The reviews have been excellent although for an extra £300 I have been quite tempted by a 24-70 GM from Panamoz...... either would go nicely with the A7riii thats coming Saturday....

Congratulations on the incoming Sony A7RIII, I would personally go for the 24-70mm f2.8 G Master, but that's inner G Master lust in me.
I still have hope that Sony brings out a FE 55mm f1.4 and 135mm f2.8 G Master lens to round off my collection :D

Just a heads up, if anybody is interested in the FE 100mm f2.8 STF G Master, Harrisons have it reduced to £1350 at the moment. (£200 off)

Thanks Riz, I managed to get rid of my A7rii and all of the bits that aren't compatible with the iii (Batt Grip, Batteries, Charger) at a good price, only placed my "second" pre-order for the A7riii on Monday so there must be plenty of stock available even though few in the UK seem to have it yet!

I was very close to ordering another D850 when I spotted an Open Box Return at WEX as they thought it might be January before there were more A7riii bodies available!!!
Looks a beast of a camera though and is going to fulfil anything I need for a long time, 42mp is more than plenty and the improved AF will make it more useful for the odd time I need it.

I might keep an eye on stock, if there's no indication of the 24-105 coming then the 24-70 makes sense, got the Loxia 21 and Voigtlander 65 to go with them and probably keep the 70-200 f4 as well.

Really want a 35mm but I can't reconcile myself to the price of a Loxia again so I think a Canon FD f2 might be the one I add

:cautious:

Not that, I know what Chris is like. A long time is up to 7 days :D

Haha! Your not wrong.... but that said I'm very happy with the Sony stuff, easy to use (although I do get why folk dislike the menu system) - great glass now available (if not cheap) and actually I'd probably need to buy a Fuji GFX to get anything better IQ wise (OK the D850 has 3mp on it but really?)

I'd have liked the extra dial of the A9 on the A7riii

Sony are clever in how the segment their bodies..... I would love the extra features that the A7R III has over the Sony A9...... and some more... :D

- Anti-Flicker
- Picture Profiles incl S-Log2/3 and HDR-Log
- Photo rating & Burst Photo Grouping
- PixelShift Mode
- 4k & 6K Photo Mode
- Eye-AF - Selective Mode for Picking Preferred Eye
- Time Lapse / Intervelometer.
- Better SD Card Management
- Update Touch Screen to work like the A7R III and add full Touch GUI functionality.
- Menu accessibility during buffer clearing.

Is the Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 a bit of a stretch too far?

To be honest although I've used older lenses a lot the better modern lenses such as the Sony 55mm f1.8 and Voigtlander 40mm have started me thinking that I should be going for the quality end rather than the cheap and characterful :D The files just look sooooooo good :D

A quick Google shows the Sony 35mm f2.8 at £279, not tempted to that lens?
EDIT - SEE BELOW...
