The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I haven't been out for a week, the weather was nice today but we've been too worried about GF's dog back home to go out. Poor chap has had a very bad week and the news tomorrow may not be good as to be honest he's just too ill to go on.

He looks a lovely dog. I have a soft spot for border collies. It's a tough time when they have to move on. We've been through it twice before and it never gets any easier.

He is a lovely dog. He's in his 90's in human years and he doesn't play but he likes company and attention and a good stroke. He's a bit of a mix, we think he's mostly Border Collie but he has very short legs so there's probably something else in him. Sadly his kidneys seem to have gone, he's had dialysis and a blood transfusion and daily injections morning and evening but he was only home a week and now he can't eat or stand and spent Thursday night screaming so we're all hoping for a recovery but thinking that it's probably not possible. I'd love to have brought him to the UK but the stress of it all would have been too much for him.

How many are buying this stuff and honestly believing it's improving their output or income though?

I guess you could argue it's nice to have nice things, but if you're shooting the same old snaps then it's a massive snorefest waste.

Improving income? No I'm not a professional but it saves me spending the money on gambling, drugs or a Ford Mustang... improving my output? I'd say in the main most of the stuff I've bought for the A7rii probably has actually, I've shot far more since I've had it too but that;s probably down to size as well.

got a bet with myself on how long before we see them in the Ads,bet they last longer than my Mac :)

Enjoy your bet, your going to lose.

Doesn't it just... in the nicest way possible... this place doesn't help...it breeds GAS. Best to check in the photo sharing threads and admire people's skills, learn a little, shoot more.

Buying stuff is great, but challenging yourself to stay offline and shoot stuff out of your comfort zone for a laugh (trying to break your gear) is so much fun.

It's nice to be back after a good break and see the usual folk but it's good to be sensible.

It does breed GAS, constantly new stuff available now as well which doesn't help!

Annnd other brand news...

Shock! Leica reduces the price of the SL by $1,500!

Maybe they've looked at the A9 and had a rethink?

Alan you cant just backup all your PB images here :p

But I can :D

I'm just replacing some of the pictures PB deleted but... all these pages of chat are nice but maybe we do need a few pictures here and there too :D

You could even post some... you must have some Sony pictures or even other marque pictures that would be relevant or interesting in the context of this thread.

And not really Sony but worth a read... David Thorpe cutting comments on Brooklyn Beckham's photography.

http://m43blog.dthorpe.net/

Ouch.
Beckham's book is what it is.
But let's look at some positives. It brings photography to the forefront of peoples minds and gets younger people involved. Which is good and some of those will be from a different walk of life to whom usually gets involved.
It shows that you can get a book published with a a bit of money ;)
Not everyone can take a good photo.

Ok now let's also think that we have all taken better photos than Beckham which we all have I hope. But that doesn't mean that they are worth more. His photos maybe super personal to him (his degree will help his skill). Secondly when you look at "art" it doesn't need to be good it just needs to be sold. The most expensive photograph in the world is hardly amazing. I digress. Fair play to him I say stick it out there and think f*** it I'm loaded anyways. If he came here first and asked for help he'd have had his head chewed off photos lambasted and he wouldn't have done it. There is something wonderful with the teenage mind they know it all and are fearless.

I haven't seen his pictures and even though I haven't I wont claim to take better. I can feel for the young guy.

PS.
With his access to people and places few others have access to I can't see how he can fail to produce something worth looking at especially as he surely has help with the post capture stuff.

Another picture from Thailand.

I love the restaurants and little coffee places, I haven't seen anything like them for just overall niceness anywhere. In Kazakhstan I was amazed at the quality open to the wealthy but the eateries in Thailand are the best places in the world for me and the sheer number and niceness of them! :D You can eat out twice a day at a different one each time, be impressed every time and all for very little money.

This little place served excellent food, had a lovely singer and some interesting little features. This is the car park at the back :D The motor bikes were at the same place.

A7 and 35mm f2.8.

I'm sure it's lovely but I read that you don't get full time manual focus and that would be a biggie for me but for those who don't mind it looks like a nice option at a reasonable price.

Well, they look ok on my screen. What do you think?

I've seen banding in my own pictures when there's a tv on in the room, how's the A9 perform in low light in a room with a tv providing much of the light?

I bought the SL in 2016 for £5299 with a free battery (£120), it's now £4995 without - so price hasn't dropped too much here.
On the other hand I bought a Leica Q for £2900 and now it's £3549

also SL has been out almost two years, Sony drop their prices just as much ;)

Same here, but I've only seen them on my iPhone at present.

Jonney your tests aren't what they are moaning about they aren't high refresh rate LEDs. I don't think anyone here is s for a standard light shot it makes no odds!

I was about to say the same thing, they look like a mix of halogen spotlights.

As per Dan's post with the 'Love' sign though, it's just one of those things that's likely to happen if there are LED light sources in the shot. It's not the end of the world so does it really mean that the system as a whole is suddenly no good?

Jonney, the bulk of shots you've ever uploaded have either been studio, F1 grandstand or walking the street and none of those situations would show LED related banding so maybe just focus on using the kit to deliver results you want instead of trying to replicate an issue.

Yes I agree.this is why the banding issue is not an issue for my type of shoot but overheating can be as I shoot outdoors.no overheating has occurred in this second A9 I have

Hi guys just been to my dad's going to steel his old camera and shoot some film but he had this lens on it will it work on my Sony if only manual which is cool without ruining itIMG_20170702_194233.jpg

Is there a native E-mount 35/1.4 with autofocus available or one in the pipeline?

Its a big beast the Sony Zeiss 35mm f1.4 but if you get a good one its supposed to be the best 35mm on the market

Opinions on pricing folks... When the SEL1635GM hits the streets, do you think this might have an effect on the price of the SEL1635ZA f4?
I'm interested to know if more of the f4's will be for sale TBH 'cos I'd have to sell loads to get the GM
As if we need more GAS here....
Sheesh!

Honestly, probably not, the f2.8 is already 2x the price of the f4 version, I can't see it falling much.

How bad is the AF in reality?

Compared to? What do you want to use it for?

I found it fine for portraits, landscape and anything that isn't really moving too much. Tracking is where it runs into problems.

The camera itself if very small and light. It might feel really odd if you have been used to full frame dslr. Doesn't feel like it's built wonderfully well, but can't argue with the image quality.
