The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Right less bashing now from me.

I may want a wider angle lens maybe the 20mm or is there something else that's quite good just to dip my toe into landscapes to finish my trio of lenses.

I will have a 35mm a 85mm so give me some opinions and options guys

All comes down to how much you want to spend :D

Zeiss Batis 18mm?

I wonder when Sigma are going to join in on the FE lens mount..... imagine new Sigma Art FE lenses?
At the moment the G Masters are leading the pack...... :D

Isn't that where the MC11 converter comes in to play?
Doubt any adapted lenses via adaptors are going work as well as native lenses.
I believe Sigma have confirmed they are developing native Sigma FE mount lenses.
I have also been told Olympus are going to be making FE lenses too! :o

Sigma already appear to be doing a few labelled as "DN" lenses and the 35mm Art (my favourite lens) appears to work very well with the adaptor.

With more manufacturers coming to the party, it looks like I may well be changing from a 5d3 after all then. Especially as its a straight swap for a A7ii :)

No they arent, Sigma DN is E mount, not FE mount.

Depends on how and what you shoot whether adapted will be good enough, if you value AF speed youd be nuts to ditch a 5d3 for a A7ii.

There is no 'FE Mount' - FE is simply a lens designation for Full frame E Mount lenses

You can fit and FE lens to an APS-C E mount camera, and an APS-C E mount lens to a FF E mount Camera, both will work (but with the FF body and APS-C lens you'll either get vignetting or the body will switch to an APS-C mode, depending on lens and settings).

I was trying to make it easier to understand.

Thanks for clearing that up, I'm not sure how I missed the different sizes. As to why I am looking to swap, as good as the 5D3 is, its also a little on the bulky side for an everyday carry around. Originally I was looking at getting the M5 as a carry around along with the efm/ef adaptor. However I like the look and DOF that the FF gives, after seeing an offer on the A7ii, it works out as a straight swap £ for £. The money I was going to spend on the M5 will go on a 7Dii (don't tell the wife). This way I have a smaller carry around camera which still has the look and low light ability of FF, along with a fast focusing/high fps 7Dii for wildlife and motorsports.

I am however happy to listen to other suggestions, is the A7ii that bad compare to the 5D3?

It depends on your shooting needs, the Canon 5DIII will be significantly better at AF and AF-C.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd pictures.

As Photobucket has decided to delete pictures uploaded and posted here via them maybe people could post any deleted favorite or technically interesting pictures, as this is a gear thread, direct from their pc or via another hosting service.

Aside from the Samyang 14mm (which is manual focus) there aren't really any "cheap" wide options on the Sony, personally I have the Manual Focus Zeiss Loxia 21mm and its brilliant, not cheap though.

The new 12-24 G is getting great reviews but again not cheap (£1700), I ordered one but changed my mind when I remembered it needed its own filters/holder, will probably pre-order the 16-35 f2.8 although I love the Loxia so much that I might look for a cheaper option like the Voightlander 15mm (again Manual Focus).

Could look for the F4 variant of the Sony 16-35, it has OS and generally is regarded as a very good wide angle.

Have you thought about lens options, it would be a good idea to have a look. Ff lenses are the same size across manufacturers... small body big lens... kinda pointless if you just want to save size.

It seems you are prioritising your travel camera requirements over the other? Although the 7dii is very good.

This was one of the first shots I took with my A7, Early December 2013, with an Olympus Zuiko 50mm f1.8.

Sadly Toby is no longer with us.

This was taken in April this year, my GF and Tangkraw who is sadly very ill. A7 + Sony 35mm f2.8. Hoping for a swift recovery...

Not sure why Sony still insists on producing A mount... It's dead. Move on.

SAR reader Antoine asked Sigma about their A-mount plans and got as official answer that they have “no plans on any A-mount lenses in the future“.

I have to agree that A-mount is old now and doesn't really offer any unique selling point. It was nice of Sony to bring out the A99 II, they should leave it at that and wave farewell to the A-mount.

two A9 bodies.

16-35 G master

24-70 g master

70-200 G master

100-400 G Master

85mm G master

he told me he won the euro millions

Can I put my name down for the 24-70 when you sell it next month please, at half price
Thanks.

Enjoy, the A9 is fantastic.
