The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Apart from playing with the camera indoors, I've not done anything since the shoot a week or so ago. Always find when I'm not shooting the GAS starts to creep in. Must go out again!!

I'll be having a free day sometime in the next couple of weeks and I'll be off out by myself with a camera no matter what the weather.

Has anyone bothered with that free DXO software?

Not me need some images first plus use adobe cc
I thought I'd give that a try even though it pains me to give Adobe any more money but it wouldn't download onto my pc, it just gave errors and failed every time. That was before I move to Windows 10 so I might try again one day.

Big daddy 70-200mm G Master sold today..... only two left! :D
Nobody interested in the Nissin flash systems? ;)

Muggins here bought DXO Pro 10 elite and Viewpoint2 then soon after Upgraded to DXO Pro 11 but TBH I canned it and moved from Capture One Pro (for Sony) to Capture One Pro. [for all my past Canon cameras].
DXO is good for noise reduction but I ended up in a stalemate about its colour rendition with their support and thus canned it. I also found I was running out of storage due to the additional file copies I was storing. With C1 I can do a lot of PP including Local Adjustment layers on my ARWs and only on occasions pop in and back from CS. I don't miss DXO at all, but I miss the money I wasted. If it's free go pig out on it see if it suites you.

Now that party season is upon us it's proving hard to get free time. Although a mate and I have agreed to do a Xmas pub crawl/photo walk around Covent Garden in a couple of weeks

Go to the Cross Keys, enjoy beer and photos they have up on the walls

Stay there

Works for me :)

Hi Sony users. I've never used a Sony in my life so I'm asking this on behalf of my friend who has just bought an a99 mark ii. She is unable to convert her raw files! Lightroom doesn't recognise them and my suggestion to use adobe DNG converter appears not to work either. Can anyone offer any suggestions she can try please?

FYI Lightroom CC 2015.8 and a new version of ACR are out today with support for the Alpha 99 Mk II

Finally took mine out again for some "proper" photos (as opposed to snaps).
Also worked the backlog in LR down from 670 to about 80, so nearly on top of things.

The new Smart Preview edit in Lightroom is quite a boon for the RAW files....

Just playing with Nik filters.

I've only ever bothered with mono conversions now and again but I'm starting to like playing with some shots now. I created a few presets in Silver Efex Pro and Analog Efex Pro and I bounce the pictures through both, the latter adding some old camera and film effects. Despite degrading the pictures by adding the oldie effects there still seems to be very good detail left. I took these with my A7 and an old Minolta Rokkor 50mm f1.4 but I can't remember what aperture I used. The first is ISO 640 and the second is 2000. 100% crops also posted. just for fun :D

PS.
It's nice that the noticeboard in the first one is nice and clear and sharp and I can see our train on it despite this being off to the corner and not the point of focus :D

That would have been science fiction just a few years ago and now it's possible with a decades old mass market film era £50 lens :D

Love that train station never ever got to take any images yet lol as I go there regular ha ha as the in laws live in york....

Me and GF went for a look around and met up with my niece and her BF. I don't go to York often though but when I/we do now it's by train rather than by car.

Actually, I'd like to escape for a day and go to the railway museum.

Yes it a good place to visit I went a few years back before I was into Photography so love to go there again as there are quite a few things to take images of.

We should do a forum meet one day.

NO Fuji's allowed!!!! Except as ballast.
:D
Actually Fuji's would be allowed as secondary cameras as I'd want to bring my Panny GX80 with a fast prime on it :D

Ive no Fuji here ;)
As you have taste.
:D

I've thought of another reason Fuji's should be allowed... to make A7x users feel superior! :D

"Look at the DR, high ISO and cropping ability" :D

Loxia 85mm review over at Steve Huff...

http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2016/12/10/the-zeiss-loxia-85-f2-4-lens-review-beautiful-perfection/

I made the mistake of reading a couple of reviews of this lens recently and then a couple came round and during the visit they showed me their new phones. I'm not remotely interested in phones and I just couldn't see what was special about them (I was told they're good phones) so I asked them why they'd bought them and the reply was that they just couldn't resist at the price and they'd just decided to treat themselves :D I haven't really treated myself much recently so as I was thinking about the Loxia 85mm I Googled my way on over to Wex and called up the Loxia 21, 35, 50 and 85mm lenses. £4k or so. I can afford that. I nearly bought them. In the end I didn't :D as I have lots of manual lenses and all I'd really save is the use of an adapter and "all" I'd gain is more quality than I'd know what to do with but I can't blame anyone who does buy these lenses :D

Just a quick grab shot with a Minolta Rokkor 85mm f2. If I'm honest this is all the 85mm quality I'll need.

When using these manual lenses it's hard for me to remember what I used so I'll have to start sticking a few shots in folders named after the lens I used.

New A7ii owner here.

Canon DSLR user for as long as I can remember and Canon film SLR before that with Zenit E SLR as a lad.

Absolutely in love with it. Can't believe I have put off going to the dark side so long. It is light making it a joy to use and the dynamic range for landscape is breathtaking after using older Canon sensors, even full frame. I appreciate light, composition, atmosphere and story telling in the photo are more important. But for people who say it (DR) doesn't matter are deluding themselves, this is the best tool for the job I've ever used.

YaY! :D

I agree with your comments on lightness and DR and my A7 is the best camera I've ever had for image quality but the DR and image quality points could be viewed as fighting talk... So we need pictures! :D

What lenses are you using?

I'll add some when I have used it in anger :)

Zeiss Batis 18mm f2.8 and Sigma 35mm ART f1.4 with MC-11 adapter (which is cool because it still does the manual focus magnification thing).

I also have a Canon 70-200 f4 IS L which will stay on the 5D3 most of the time I think.
