The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Just looking at this picture taken with my Minolta 24mm f2.8 possibly at f8...

Edge performance at 100%...

I think that's respectable for an old film era 24mm. It is at f8 though which is possibly round about where it's best, even so... quite respectable I think :D

Rumour site reports that the A9 will cost similar to the Canon 1DX2 and Nikon D5. So around £5,000 :o

I think I am with @woof woof on this in that you own a camera is it doing what you need if yes you can stick. Now want is an entirely different issue my recent change was I want to stick with photography for as long as I can so ability for crop was the single biggest factor. Extra speed af ect is really nice but for a number of applications is not essential. I really doubt I would pay £5k for a body the insurance risk alone is considerable :D

I am quite happy so far with the A7r2
Just sold my A7ii sorry seeing it go but don't need 2
@addicknchips have you decided to keep your A7ii
@rookies have you decided which body you wish to have
@Fuguru are you still happy with your switch even after loss of GM lens
@ me I am happy :) so far

Yes really happy with the switch, with the double cash back offers and lens pricing on Black Friday it's been a worthwhile move both in terms of requirements (needs) and £££.
Once the G Masters lenses and flashes go, the move will result about a 50% cheaper Fuji setup vs Sony setup which is epic given what the Fuji offers and that I've got a bigger focal setup to pick from.

You can't compare apples with oranges so I'd by lying if I said the XT-2 was better than the A7RII for IQ/DR/ISO etc :D

I'd also say that the G Master lenses are truly awesome and a must have for high resolution work. :)

The a7ii was sold Thursday. Would have liked to have kept it but finances wouldn't allow. I will need a 2nd body at some stage though so wouldn't not rule out something like an a6300.

Fantastic well done sad they go but money back in the kitty is very useful :)

TBH I still think you're suffering a little GAS with the Fuji's :D I can see the financial reasons for you switching from the very high end A7 system you had (and it was IMO a much too high end system at least in terms of cost) but I've always thought the Fuji's are piggy in the middle in terms of cost v packaging v performance and still a relatively expensive system for what you get. I'd have stuck with (what I have) a basic A7 system partnered by MFT or an A6xxx.

As we're fond of talking about non Sony A7 kit in this thread...MFT in particular has some very nice primes and lenses with some very high quality but reasonably priced lenses on the used market plus some capable bodies are now available at what are really bargain prices. I'd say that the stand out lenses I have at the mo are the Panny 12-35mm and the Olympus 17, 25 and 45mm f1.8 primes. All of these are available at good prices and with a GX80 which you get £100 cash back on at the mo make a compact, good performing and bargain priced system. I have MFT lenses covering the FF equivalent of 18-400mm and most were bought used at good prices.

Tbf you do mention mft a lot. Probably more on this thread than in the Olympus/Panasonic threads. I don't think there's anything wrong with people doing comparisons between camera systems.

Yes still got some GAS left in my system but I'm kind of controlling it now lol.... no more pixel peeping for now or chasing FF lenses which are big, heavy and expensive.
My financial goal of reducing my system value by 50% is achievable yet retaining comparable A7/A7II IQ performance.
I've been wise and waited for the right moment to buy the Fuji lenses.
Taking advantage of low Fuji prices on Black Friday meant changing from Sony to Fuji was even better than I expected..... :D
In my eyes yes, your right the Fuji is in the middle but I see that as an advantage.
No system is cheap unfortunately :(

They lack our willingness to consider other systems and generally slag everything including what we own off. So I don't post too much in those threads any more.

It is a decent enough system and a good mix of quality and size. A GX80 with a compact prime is a very nice and compact thing... cheap too. Today I shot indoors at 17mm f1.8 and ISO 5,000 and the shots are perfectly useable, good even, especially after downsizing for output.

Anyway, I've just been printing :D Just done a calendar for GF's family. 12 lovely prints from my Epson R2880. Two MFT shots included and apart from the give away aspect ratio no one will ever be able to tell which are FF and which are MFT :D

I'm actually very tempted by a little Olympus set up. Not to replace my Sony gear but as a cheaper lightweight walk around kit. Pen f or em5ii.

Could just be gas though..

Well done dusting off the printer
