The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

May be the continued drop of sterling think most tech is going higher soon hope not

Yeah, thought it was bad last month with all the price rises, can only get even worse now sadly.

Just seen the new Sony RX100 V price..... its £999 What!!! :o That's A6300 money.... :o
I do love the appeal of a real high quality pocket camera but surely at £999 you'd be better off with the A6000 and Zeiss 16-70mm bundle for £1099?
I was looking at something for travelling hence the RX100 V, but at these crazy prices its madness...... probably going to stick with my A7RII (without grip), 35mm f2.8 and 55mm f1.8 setup for which nicely fits in my Kata DC-433 bag.
Surprisingly the A7RII body and both lenses, cleaning stuff, memory cards and batteries fit in a bag measuring a tiny.......

External Height(H) 15 cm 5.91 in
External Length(L) 20 cm 7.87 in
External Width(W) 12.5 cm 4.92 in

Who says the Sony system can't be compact! :D
Mine fits in my woolly hat!

Mine fits in my woolly hat!

I think one of the drawbacks of having a compact A7 camera and lens is that when someone says "Is that your camera or are you pleased to see me" I have to tell the truth as they know my camera isn't that big.

I want the A9, 16-35mm f2.8 GM and the 90mm f2.8 G Macro.
Then either keep the A7RII for travelling or sell and get the A6500 paired with the Zeiss 16-70mm f4.
GAS at its finest lol :D

I'm quite tempted by the thought of that 50mm f2.8 macro.

If and when I get the chance to have a look at one I may be more than tempted.

I literally to stuff my a7r2 wit a batis 25mm inside my woolly hat and throw it inside my work bag!
I have a Lowepro something or other that my MFT cameras fit in and my A7 and 35mm f2.8 fits in better than my G1 or G7. It's a totally different world from my 5D.

The 16-35 f2.8 doesn't really appeal to me. The f4 zeiss was excellent for me and I never found I needed it faster. Great bit of kit

Added a 28mm FD and a 135mm FD f/2.8 to my manual lenses - both from Fffffffordes. Amazing condition for lenses older than me, look good as new. The 135mm is very sharp, even wide open - lovely bokeh too. The 28mm is good too, haven't really used it in anger yet though. Amazing for <£100 for the pair.

I've been saying that these old lenses are worth looking at for quite some time :D

There do seem to be a lot of very good condition FD lenses about and even some unused ones crop up from time to time.

On the subject of compact kit I posted this in another thread and thought I'd post it here :D

This is a FF camera with an excellent 35mm f2.8 lens in a bag that measures 15cm (h) 12cm (w) and 10cm (d).

:D

:D

Yes but I can get the A7RII, 35mm f2.8 AND the 55mm f1.8 in my bag which isn't that much bigger. :D lol
42.2mp goodness with IBIS :D

I suppose I could afford an A7RII but to be honest the humble little A7 does just about everything I want plus to be honest I've spent more time on here in the last month than I have taking pictures. The only pictures I've taken in the last month other than quick pictures of people, flowers and food to zap off around the world were at a family do, so that's one use in a month that couldn't have been done with my phone or a compact. I will get some time to myself at some point :D and at some point it'll coincide with some photogenic light :D and those are the times I enjoy my little hobby :D

We're still on course to marry next year but the date has slipped back a few months from the first quarter to the second and although my GF honestly wouldn't mind me buying a camera (luckily we're both comfortable with no money issues) I do feel a pang of guilt when buying stuff for myself but I just might...next year and before the big event :D

And just out of interest, what bag is that?

Its a Kata DC-433 :D
What are you going to for your Wedding Photography? DSLR free Wedding? LOL :D

When are we going to do a "get your gear out" photo(s) ? :D lol

Sorry, I'll pimp it later and make it look more like a man bag :D
I want a Sony Pro Support bag and strap and stickers..... but unfortunately the Sony rep said not until Sony Pro Support starts in the UK. lol :D

hehehe :D

I have a nice who is very talented.... got a degree in photography too :D She's not a pro photographer but does get the odd paid job here and there and does do weddings so I've spoken to my GF and I think (she's a woman and so may change her mind over rule me at any moment...) that we've agreed that we'll see what the going rate is and then ask my niece if she'll do it for the going rate and we'll also encourage everyone else to snap away :D Most people have good smartphones and some have good cameras. I have a sister and brother in law who have Sony Axxxx cameras of some description (they have the ones that don't have a VF) and they should get some decent quality snaps too.

PS.
Just looked at that bag and I'll keep it in mind. I currently sometimes use an old "Town and Country" camcorder bag (the blue one I posted a picture of) that I sometimes use when I want to take more than the camera and one lens and I also have an old SLR bag which will take a camera and a bigger lens, like my Panny G7 and 12-35mm f2.8.

Actually just on the Panny and 12-35mm f2.8. I was surprised to see that in some respects it beats my A7 and kit lens, mainly it's sharper at equivalent settings at wide to f4.

I have both the FDn f/2.0 and older FD f/2.5 SC, which are both wonderful in their ways, but I keep the FDn 135/2.8 for travelling light. It's a little gem that fits easily into a jacket pocket.

I think people forget how compact the Sony mirrolees cameras are, that small battery and single card slot, small buttons and hand grip have some advnatges:banana:

Yeah - it's a beaut. Love the integrated hood too. Such a neat idea I'm surprised more lenses don't do this.

I have two Minolta Rokkor's and an Olympus Zuiko with the same feature. I think it was pretty common back then.

Yes, I think all of Canon's FD 135s, including the FDn f/3.5, have a built-in retracting hood. Their f/4 and f/2.8 and 200mm FD primes do, too.

Looks like Sony's big announcement run isn't over just yet.... first the A99 II, then the A6500 and RX100 V.... apparently another big E-mount announcement next week..... what else could they have in store?
I think its one of the following three products...

1. Sony A5500 (APS-C)
2. FE 16-35mm f2.8 G Master
3. Sony A9

:D

Bet we could guess the 2 announcements you might prefer :)

Maybe but doubt even Sony could get a Sony A9 out by Christmas, they may announce it and shipping starts Q1 2017.
Or maybe its a new Sony A7000 (APS-C) lol :D

i think they are fairly quick with it once they drop the announcement. if they did announce it next week it could well drop in december. which would a really odd month to launch a really expensive camera..

Hopefully its the Pro-level Sony A9 which gets announced next week.... the hype and rumors surrounding this body have been bubbling for months and months now.
It could equally be the FE 16-35mm f2.8 G Master....
Or maybe its a new E-mount video camera lol gulp :D :o

Whenever it's announced I hope they get the production numbers right as just about everything they've released so far has been followed by a statement that demand has exceeded expectations. Didn't they sell something like three times as many A7's as they originally thought they'd sell? Something like that.

PS.

To find out what you lot are talking about I just had a look at the rumor site and they mention possible new bodies and lenses????

Exciting times :D

I know but some Sony guru's are lucky.

Tony Northup hasn't got his 70-200 f2.8 GM yet and the waiting list has increased to 3 months due to demand..... I got mine woohooo I even tweeted Tony to share my happy news with him lol :D haha
