The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Joking aside, having GM lenses doesn't make you a pro, delivering results that your clients expect does. That might mean shooting with the kit lens to deliver head and shoulders images for a website or the highest possible resolution for a billboard.

Getting out and shooting to learn your kit and building up people skills are more important.

Is that a euphemism for sleeping your way to the top? If so I approve :D

I'm struggling to understand Sony's upgrade cycles? I get that they will end up with a range of APS-C options like they have with the A7/R/S but they seriously know how to pee people off who bought the A6300 within the last 8 months! I'm still happy with the results from my A6000 and not everyone has bottomless camera kitty's so can buy multiple versions of essentially the same camera with one extra feature. The rumour seems pretty conclusive on SAR but we'll wait and see if Sony really are out to annoy a lot of their users.

Looking at the article that SAR has linked to in order to 'confirm' their own rumour, it doesn't look any more conclusive to me?

http://nokis***a-camera.blogspot.co.uk/2016/10/6500rx100m5.html

(Google translate)

"[Rumor] announcement Sony soon "α6500" and "RX100M5"

Sony from the source of overseas gave me tell us about the new products to be announced soon.
  • Sony is soon to announce the following new product.
    • α6500
    • DSC-RX100M5

Also tonight as early as Sony seems to announce a new product abroad.α6500 looks attention whether the rumor as 5-axis camera shake correction is to be mounted."

It looks more like the linked site has just re-hashed previous rumours from SAR with no further details?

I hope its not another APS-C body and that its the Sony A9, I don't see the point in Sony even releasing more APS-C bodies if they aren't going to release more good E-mount lenses to go with the system.
For APS-C systems the Fuji XT-1/2 seems a more complete system.
If it is the A6500 then your right, it will pee off a lot of A6300 customers in the process.

Let see what happens.... also I would have thought this site would have mentioned the incoming 16-35mm f2.8 G Master too.

I also think (hope) Sony may introduce a new sensor for the Sony A9, perhaps a high megapixel Exmor RS variant instead of the BSI Exmor R.

Now official folks....

Sony A6500 and Sony RX100m5 out :o :D

No Sony A9 this year :(

lol you will have to make do with your crappy a7rii for a bit longer
I know, unfortunately one of the hardships of being a Sony GAS sufferer. lol :D
To be honest, I am in no rush.... just hope Sony make it ground breaking when it does arrive. :)

With IBIS and a touchscreen - should be a video monster, although I didn't see any mention of a headphone jack?

I'll bet a lot of A6300 users are fuming.

Yeah it looks to be what the A6300 should have been, my initial thoughts are Sony rushed the A6300 to market, probably didn't have enough time to fix the 5-axis IBIS and 4K issues in time for release.
I agree, if I was a A6300 owner I'd be really pi##ed right now!

But a worthy upgrade for those who stuck with the a6000. Seems like only yesterday that the a6300 was released

I still love my A6000

Same here - great little camera.

Just seen the European price for the A6500 - 1700Euro, body only. Maybe A6300 owners won't be too annoyed :)

I really don't get why they'd release a camera with such great video features, but no mic jack? (unless I missed this bit). Seems a bit of an own goal to me.

Edit - Just seen the A6300 has a mic jack, so guess the A6500 does as well

That A6500 looks a bit dear but higher end higher cost cameras and lenses seem to be the trend these days.

I've thought about buying into the Axxxx line a few times to replace my MFT gear and it'd make sense as I have the A7 but one lens I'd want is a 35mm equivalent and although they do a 24mm f1.8 which gets very good reviews it seems to be a big fat lump and there doesn't seem to be any movement on the lens line up so I doubt there'll ever be a more compact 24mm f1.8, not from Sony anyway.

Shame about the A9 not coming out yet. Not that I'd buy one but I'd like to see what it is :D

Whilst I'd love a Loxia, the one I played with was a joy to use, when i bought my R2 I changed my mind at the last minute and went with the 35mm ff/2.8 as part of me felt ONLY having an MF lens was daft when the camera has such great AF features, particularly eye-AF when shooting out littl'un.

Said littl'un also rather drains the wallet, so looking at some nice M42 / FD lenses to fill the void. The FD 85/1.2 is kerrrazy expensive, but does anyone have any suggestions for solid choices for 28/50/85-90 lenses?
I have a great Helios 58mm f/2 which is fun, but feel there's a couple of classics I'm missing out on for fun. eBay is a bit overwhelming and I've ended up reading so many review sites I have no idea where to being now...!

I've had a few manual lenses & here's my album link - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ratters445/albums That's not EVERY shot in those albums though but everything is tagged with the lens used if you want to search ;) My personal favourites are the FD85/1.8, Voigtlander 40/1.4, Leitz 90/2.8 but that's mainly down to focal length & apertures really :)

I'm also going to have some up for sale soon if you want to PM to keep to the site rules.

I think Sony could make the A9 with new ground breaking features to firm muscle out the competition.....

42.2 / 50.2 mp Exmor RS BSI sensor with LSI with onboard DRAM.
New generation Bionz Processor
Dual xQD cards - USB3 interface
Full touch screen capability including touch-AF and menu GUI
Build in GPS
Larger ergonomic body with full weather sealing and top LCD screen
New generation EVF
New generation 5-axis IBIS

:D

 that's a beast of a 35mm lens..... moving to Fuji 35mm? :)

Already have the Fuji 23mm 1.4 (35mm equivalent). So am doubled up on that focal length. The fooj is excellent and very portable. The zeiss isn't portable but it's certainly a special lens.

The zeiss creates more (less) dof wide open but is nearly 3 times the size of the fooj. Also it's a little wide for me, so want the 55mm back asap as I'm not keen on fujis offerings at that length.

Having said all that, if it doesn't sell today I might use it at a wedding tomorrow and if it blows me away i may well keep it. But then I'll have to wait a while to raise funds for the 55...

Not interested in the A6500? Surely the AF should be on par with the Fooj? :D

The af may be good but i can't see any advantage it will have over the xt2 apart from ibis.
But it would mean you could stick to one system instead of Sony and Fuji?
I still love certain aspects of the Fuji system but having a single system mount is the way forward if possible.

And touch screen?

It's a nice feature and I imagine all cameras will eventually have it. but not something that's going to make me want to buy something. My Fuji x70 has a touch screen and is quite handy on the odd occasion. The joystick on the xt2 and xpro 2 is by far a more useful addition imo

The Sony seems to be significantly smaller and if you choose your lenses with an eye on keeping the bulk down you could make the significance even more... er... significant.

I've been tempted by the A6xxx line on and off for a while as you can have a good quality EVF in the corner style APS-C camera and lens for pretty much the same size as my MFT Panasonic GX7.

Anyway, size...

Totally agree with this, the Sony full frame is my main system, but being able to add the apsc camera body with the advantages they offer and use the same lens is worth sacrificing any small befits from another totally new system

I am avoiding buying a A6xxx body for now.... will get the new Sony A9 and then decide what to do with my A7RII.... :D

Is there any great advantage for the Fuji 23mm f1.4 over an A7 with the 35mm f2.8?

To be honest although I complain about the 35mm f2.8 not being f1.8 :D for me the A7 with 35mm f2.8 and 55mm f1.8 makes a very attractive little kit and there's nothing on the market at the moment that could tempt me away for the mix of quality and compact size and weight, except maybe a MKII or the fixed lens 35mm RX thingy. I forget the model number.

This is what I am using as my travelling setup....

Sony A7RII without the vertical grip
Sony 35mm f2.8
Sony 55mm f1.8

All fits in my small bag.... a very compact system vs its IQ abilities.... I wouldn't mind a zoom but that would just increase the weight/size of the setup.

As you may know I'm often kept busy and can't get out by myself a lot but the A7 with either of those lenses is unobtrusive enough for me to take when I'm with my GF or other people.

I bought a 12-35mm f2.8 to use on my Panny G7 but I've been thinking that the A7 with the kit zoom would be the same size and will probably give similar results. I haven't used the kit lens since I got it but I just might one day :D It would mean taking a larger bag though as the A7 and 35mm f2.8 fits in a very small one. The same bag my GX7 and 17mm f1.8 fits in.

For anyone who's interested...
