The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Just got back from a week staying in Porthcurno. Packed the drone, xt2, x70, a7rii, 85 Batis, 35 Zeiss, and 4 fuji lenses, couple of tripods, flash, battery grip, Chargers etc etc. Bit overkill for a family holiday.

lol, yep, but better to have it with you right ;)

I have my A7 kit, A6000 kit, action cam kit, lighting for video, waders for in rivers, climbing and abseiling gear, the Missus's Canon gear - maybe a little much :)

No drone though as haven't bought one yet, it's next on my list. Hoping the new rumoured DJI Mavic will fit my needs (want something that fits easily in my camera backpack). Which drone do you have?

I've the DJI 3 pro. Had an error message though which meant the camera wouldn't work. It's the 2nd time it's let me down like this and it's really testing me.

Has anyone got the Sony 28mm F2?? I really want a small prime that is wider than my 35mm 2.8. The 28 gets good reviews but the photos on Flickr are a bit meh!!! Anyone here got an opinion on it? Or a suggestion for a small wide prime?

35-50 is my preferred home and for my lesser used focal lengths I have manual lenses. Instead of the 28mm f2 you could probably get a decent adapter plus manual 24 and 28mm f2.8's and have money to spare. MF isn't for everyone and every occasion though.

I have the 28mm and it's one of my favorite lenes, I do not think there is anything at this size that is auto focus, if you do not mind manual focus there are lost if options mainly legacy.

Definitely want auto focus and definitely want small so thanks for your comment.

is there an adaptor that allows e-mount lenses to work on an alpha-200 camera?

Been searching and it seems not !

As the A200 is an SLR with a much longer register (the distance from the mount to the focal plane) it would need a hefty optical element to work, which would significantly compromise the image quality.

So my other cheap alternative would be an adaptor to connect my two Nikon DX lenses (bought to fit a 70s) to the alpha-200. Do they exist ?

The Nikon F register distance is 46.5mm, Sony Alpha/Minolta AF is 44.5. That leaves 2mm in which to fit an adapter, which is very tight when you have to get the rest of the mount metal in there too.

It looks like it can't be done without some extra depth and an optical element to achieve infinity focus. Such things do exist - Fotodiox make one, but it has to have a lens to make up for not being thin enough.

Many thanks. I think we'll be looking at purchasing an a- mount macro lens. I see sony/sigma/tamron do various macros at the 90-105 focal lengths in the £3-400 price point. Any recommendations?

The sigma 105 is what my Dad has Nikon mount very good lens that. He was told it was better than Nikons macro back in the day.
We also have the canon MPE 65 which is like a microscope, hard to use...

Hello all,

Did anyone here jump over to A7r II from a Fuji XT1? Looking to make the upgrade in a month or so and I'm really excited.

Any thoughts or experiences would be welcomed. Especially with the new XT2 arriving...

Hi,

I looked into the Fuji system extensively and specifically the XT-2 but in the end realised it was more a sidewards step / downgrade in terms of both actual and scientific IQ outputs.
The move from Sony to Fuji would have been a cheaper system for me providing I could live with the APS-C direction going forwards.
The Fuji XT-2 does have a lot of good points though if you can live with the downgrade from FF to APS-C sensor, ergonomics, GUI and AF tracking being some of them.

Has Sony ever announced a new camera in or around the time photokina?

No idea but given the sensor manufacturer issues if Sony did originally plan to, it's now looking doubtful.
I still believe a high-end model above the A7 will be announced before the end of this year though.
Hopefully this will address the known issues like GUI, body ergonomics including sealing, performance etc.

27 mins to go until the Sony Photokina Press Event...... :D

What id like to see is someway of using E on A, cant have 2 variants surely :/

Good news for A mount users.
Yup, probably the final a-mount body from Sony.... a nice way to go.
I doubt we'll see the A9 being announced now but still expect to see it before the year is out.... if its anything like the A99 II but with a E-Mount it will be good..... the A99II also has the 8fps no-black out mode too. (A6300).

its going to be 3600 euro's

It does get me excited when we now have an alterative to the FlagShip D5 and 1DX, with this 12FPS FF beast. Just need that Convertor. I bet Sony will either re-engineer the 24-70 G to A or release a convertor...

Good luck on that one. Sony E mount has an 18mm flange depth whereas A Mount is 44.5mm so you'd need a lot of correction from an inbuilt lens in the adaptor to get anything, let alone good results.

a couple of things concerning teh a99 mk2

  1. No cfast or XQD dual card slots(it really needs it to push 42mp uncompressed at 12fps!!!!)
  2. No touch screen. This is VERY useful for navigating through menus and touch focus on live view(one of the best features of the 5dmk4!!!)
besides that, everything is spot on. Its a shame its A mount. i cant invest in yet another mount? im already heavily invested in canon and Sony E-mount

I don't think "invest" and "a mount" fit well together.

i must admit i wont buy 1 i need this spec in E on an A7 or A9 if it ever comes.

Sony A9 is coming just have to wait longer ;)
Meanwhile I should have my hands on the 70-200 GM soon :D
