The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Does anyone know of any retailer selling the GM 85 for a decent price? I went into the Sony store in Bath today and the guy said he could order it in for £1305 before the price increase. But as I'm on holiday that's not much good to me......

£1305 sounds like a miss price or the a-mount version?
You'll have to hurry as all new stock is being shipped so it lands into dealers from Aug 2nd after the price increases.
If it is indeed £1305 I'd buy them all lol.

Think I'll go the Panamoz route again for this, £1305 and no price increase on Monday

Looking at the DPR studio shot comparison page, I have quickly run the following camera's..... I'll let you all be the judge as to which camera has the better IQ.

Sony A7II - Fuji XT1 - Sony A7RII - Fuji XT2

:)
Interesting but I've always wondered which lenses DPR are using on each camera. Couldn't there be a situation on which the lens, rather than camera (sensor), is the decisive factor in making the best frame ?
Thanks

So, does anyone have the 70-200 f2.8 GM or 50 f1.4 on pre-order?

(Looking at you Riz :) )

He got the 70-200 on order and already got 24-70 and 85

The lenses used can be seen by clicking the "i" button beside each camera and yeah, would imagine the lens makes more difference than the body itself.

Having said that, I really couldn't care less about this kind of comparison. I mean these images are cropped in so much further than anyone would ever actually want, it only takes changing the view to "print" and then the difference is far less obvious (and still cropped to death lol).

I prefer to see a complete image and get a feel for the colours contrast, pop etc. When comparing cameras at this level they should all hold up beautifully at a 100% crop, who needs more than that?

Sold all your gear yet?

No, decided to stick with Sony rather than downgrading to a Fuji, going sell off a body, grip and primes I think :)
Will start off-loading them next month once the prices have gone up.

I don't usually pre-order my lenses, just wait until they are out and start reading up on as much positive/negative reviews & finally handle them etc.
I'm a little confused about Sony's approach here as I thought that they would be making their pro lenses using the GM banner going forwards?
The new Sony Zeiss 50mm 1.4 looks stunning so far but I'm curious if a GM version is on the way.
I'm going to wait it out and see what other GM lenses are on the way, I'm guessing the 12-24mm f2.8 GM will be next followed by a 50mm f1.4 GM then either a Macro or long telephoto mmmm probably 300mm / 500mm.

That said I'm definitely getting the 70-200mm f2.8 GM and probably a 1.4x / 2.0x Teleconverter. ;)

With the new GM lenses maybe the second hand values of your primes will drop like a stone?

Just to be safe, I think you should jump at the first offer you get for £1k for both your Batis lenses ;)

16-70mm F4 or 24-70mm F4 both are Zeiss?

Sony's FE f4 lineup in their zoom's is as follows.....

Sony Zeiss FE 16-35mm f4 - excellent lens
Sony Zeiss FE 24-70mm f4 - poor lens vs price
Sony Zeiss FE 70-200mm f4 - excellent lens

I'm looking forward to the teleconverters being in peoples hands. I know Sony have said they will only work with the new f2.8, but Sigma said the MC11 would only work with Sigma lenses before launch.

If they do work with the f4 they will sell quite a few I think. I'd be tempted to get one :)

Agree, the 24-70 f4 isn't worth it's asking price, but it goes for a song secondhand. I bought mine for just over £400 from memory and absolutely love it (although shooting mainly landscapes I'm usually at smaller apertures)

I'll test it out on my FE 70-200 f4 to see if it works but I'm thinking that the rear baffle and the length of the TC may not fit into the f4.
It's not a cheap TC either priced at £550!!!
Mind you, non of the high end Sony stuff is cheap! Lol

the 24-70 f4 is sony zeiss -but in name only. doesn't perform to the standard of what you would expect from a zeiss lens.

Compare to the 55 and 16-35

With the 24-70mm F4 in mind, what are the alternatives, its my most used lens on the Canon setup? stay with the 28-70mm kit job?

I would get the kit lens it well worth it money. Put the saving toward a 16-35 or 55

Not sure which TC to go with....
1.4x gives 1 stop loss
2.0x gives 2 stops loss

I wonder how much IQ you'd lose in the real world.

Cant say which to get, but just spoke to LCE and they have the x2 in stock.

Was hoping it was in store at Plymouth (it isn't), I'd have been in the car and on my way to see if it works with the f4 :)

Probably worth waiting for a comparison of using the converters and cropping before buying. Think I'd be leaning towards the x2 though.

Yeah I'm hoping more samples and reviews to crop up online soon.
From what I've heard supplies are going to be limited to start with.

These batis seems cracking lens wishes they were cheaper like £750 for 85mm

I agree they are really good lenses but now that I have the 85mm GM it's pointless keeping the Batis too although both lenses give a different look and feel to the image, the Batis is a little warmer.
I'm more of a zoom person so looking to offload some lenses.

My ideal lens setup....

12-24mm f2.8 GM
24-70mm f2.8 GM
70-200mm f2.8 GM + TC 2.0x
50mm f1.4 GM
85mm f1.4 GM
And a GM macro

Rizvan would you say the Sony 85mm is better and sharper?
