Sony have announced a delay for the FE 70-200mm f2.8 GM & TC's until September.
Also the Zeiss Batis 18mm has been delayed until August.
Sony and Zeiss sure do like to delay their products/change release dates.

Or maybe something to do with earthquakes?
Or maybe something to do with earthquakes?
"It’s not clear why Sony had to postpone the lens shipment from the original June target. Maybe the Kumamoto earthquake had some sort of chain effect on the lens production too."
Be interesting to see if other companies products are delayed too... oh wait, yes they have been...
Calm down guys and wait. Good things come to those who wait.
Or you may be wrong.AFAIK Sony said delays were only to sensors.
Or you may be wrong.
There seem to be delays all over the place. It doesn't seem to be limited to Sony and Zeiss or there could be last minute product changes or supply issues or they may need to gear up to meet higher than expected demand and indeed the demand seems to have caught Sony and Zeiss out a few times.
Whatever.
Wait.
Actually it appears I am correct....

Well that doesn't say that nothing else is produced at the site, just that it's the primary site for sensor manufacturing. It also doesn't say other sites weren't affected. The above statement would be true even if Sony makes all of their cameras, phones, TVs, and playstations there too.Actually.... only sensors, straight out of Sonys mouth.
Operations at Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation's Kumamoto Technology Center (located in Kikuchi Gun, Kumamoto Prefecture), which is the primary manufacturing site of image sensors for digital cameras and security cameras as well as micro-display devices, had been suspended due to the impact of the earthquakes.

However it's more likely that a couple of their key suppliers were affected too. Even if all of your lens factories are at 100% operational status, that doesn't mean anything if your glass supplier stops delivering.

Then why are there delays on loads of stuff?
I suppose it's possible that a supplier or three making little widgets that are vital to stop the wotsit bamfoosaling the oujamaflip can't ship because their coffee machine fell into a hole or something. It's a complicated thing, making and shipping a thing.
As you may know I used to work in manufacturing and it's a complicated thing but for an easy to follow explanation of the complexities of modern production and interdependency see here and imagine all the bits being made by different people and different machines in different locations all over the world... some of which may fall into holes.

The main thing is that not many people are going to be eaten by lions or otherwise die because a piece of kit won't be available for a few months. It's a first world problem. Worry about something else. Or better still, Keep Calm and Carry On.
I heard Rizvan was going to be eaten by a lion because his lens is delayed.
I suppose one could kill a lion with a big zoom lens.

Yeah have you seen the size of that 70-200?!![]()
Soon soon hehePICTURES!

So here's a question - all things being equal (which they're not...), Sony GM 90mm or Batis 85mm? One offers macro, the other is faster....
The general consensus is the Batis is an excellent portrait lens, but not as versatile, whilst the Sony offers macro and is also very good for portraits. There's also quite a large size difference between the two.
Any tried the 90mm yet?

I was faced with the same dilemma for a good portrait lens.So here's a question - all things being equal (which they're not...), Sony GM 90mm or Batis 85mm? One offers macro, the other is faster....

I also have the Sony 90mm macro and obviously it is as sharp as a thistle; and so easy to use despite the size...goes nicely in the bag with the 25mm Batis as all you need for the day.
My photography friend was just looking a portrait lens which arrived yesterday, a 100mm f2.8 trioplan which is intended to complement my manual loxia lenses, and he asked me what the fastest lens in my (hopefully complete) kit is. f2.
All his Nikon primes are faster, including his cheap as chips 50mm f1.8, and we got into the reflective GAS discussion of how fast is necessary, desirable, versus ergonomics, quality etc.
Does it matter? Will I ever need a 0.95 nocturnus to take a portrait in the twilight? I guess all these modern lenses far exceed my ability to produce artistic photography.
