How much was it going for on Wex?

Sorry it was MPB not Wex. They had more than one in stock and it was £430 ish. There's been three on eBay the last week or so that have gone for £350-£370 which for a £500 lens doesn't seem too bad in my opinion. Obviously everyone has different opinions on savings the should get on 2nd hand gear. I was going to buy one no matter so any saving over new price was good but would only buy a lens in stella condition.

When looking at used kit I only go for it if it's a significant saving over the new price, but what's a significant saving we have to decide for ourselves. Sometimes the used price seems to be in spitting distance of the new price, imported maybe.

Oh. You can buy a new grey one for that sorta money. £300 was my ballpark figure, eBay prices are normally a little over-inlated to take fees into account. I'll keep lookin! :)

£450 on Panamoz, definitely wouldn't be paying £430 for a second hand one. Great lens though well worth having for the A7 series.

I suppose everyone has different ideas about what they will pay for second hand or grey over new. I'm happy with my purchase and please with the lens, if it has been anything but as new then it would of been going back.

On another note, I'm going to scotland for a family holiday soon and I'm toying with the idea of taking just the 35mm and nothing wider or longer and just making do. A bit of a challenge instead of knowing that I've got all the gear with me for any situation. Worried about missed shots though, especially at the wide end but the 24-70 I have is huge compared to the 35!

I've done Scotland with just the 35, when they first came out and that's all there was. Managed just fine, you just cope when you have no option its quite liberating in a way not worrying which lens to use. I often go solo with the 35, just crop in post for those that need it.

What about taking a really small tripod, even a pocket size one would be okay sat on a wall or rock etc.

Then you could easily take multiple shots and stitch in post for the wide end.

Could do, its very rare i take anything with me other than camera and a lens or two. Going to crete next week and i'm just take my three lenses and the camera, nothing else required. Going to mostly be using the 16-35 for day time walk around lens, then the 35 for evening night time. Not sure the 24-70 will see much action.

I bought one of those mini manfrotto ones. Fits in a coat pocket and is strong enough to hold my a7rii and 16-35. Took it to Paris with me in January and allowed me to get a lot of long exposure shots.

It's the best photography accessory I've ever bought.

Lol, I have the same one ;)

Cracking little thing if travelling light, plus I keep it in my bag to use as a flash stand on uneven ground.

Also useful with a smart phone mount for a bit of video.

Where did you get the phone mount from?

I'm going to Scotland later this year too, I'm taking a slightly different approach, everything in one bag (Lowepro flipside AW 400). In this I am squeezing in 2 bodies (Sony A7 & A7R), Sony 35mm, 55mm, 70-200mm, plus two little Canon fd primes (28mm & 24mm), plus my Lee Seven5 filters and finally Manfrotto 055 tripod (obviously this will be outside the bag).

I almost always take just a wide to normal prime on holiday, 35 to 50mm, but I also usually take a quality compact for the longer or wider shots and they're fine in good to even low light. At the mo my compact is a Panasonic LF1 which is truly pocketable. The exception to quality camera + prime and compact duo was my last little break when we went to the Eden Project when I took my G7 and 12-35mm f2.8 because it can focus quite close for the odd flower shot. I don't normally use zooms but it was quite liberating :D

I think you will require 3 bodies one for each hand and one on your tripod :runaway:

Yer I normally go well over board and have a lens for every situation. But think it might be more relaxing to just take the 35 and worry about getting the shots with that rather than constantly changing lens and trying to get things perfect.

Anyone know most recent rumour for the A7m3 release date and possible specs?

Cheers

The last thing I read on the rumour site was pointing to 2017 for an A7iii (as opposed to yet another short lifespan body), and 28/36mp sensor!

Thanks Chris, as we know from Canon prices of the old model often start dropping prior too release of new model and just toying with the A7R2

By the time the mk3 comes out i may not need the high res of the R im perfectly happy with 36MP any more would just be an extra bonus.

Do many people shoot video, im wondering about settings and storage requirements. Currently use a 32GB card which is about 800ish photos, but not idea once you start sticking video on it.

Another thing i have noticed is my charger when it says 100% and you pop the battery in the camera its usually around 90%, anyone got a charger that does a proper job at charging the batteries.

Mine works fine with both my Sony and 3rd party batteries and charges to 100%. It's just a no name evil bay special with no manufacturers name that I can see anywhere on it. It just says "Videodigital camera travel charger."

Mines a Hahnel Unipal or something. Looking on Amazon its not just me, other reviews say it doesnt fully charge.

You got a charger with the body? With the MK1's you don't get a stand alone charger but you do get... another thing. I don't use the other thing.

The charger that came with the body goes 100% for me

Since when do you get a charger with the camera? I got a USB lead but thats useless when your using the camera.

Just found they finally do intervalometers now, so no more needing the battery grip fitted.
