The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

This thread is like a Marketing departments' wet dream! We're all guilty of GAS from time to time but every other page seems to lead to someone saying that the Sony kit delivers great results but if another manufacturer brought out an alternative they might move. Why, if the kit you have is delivering results you like? Assuming some of you are actually shooting photographs and not just spending your time reading the spec list on the box and dreaming of how an extra megapixel or 0.1m/s less time to focus will make you a much better photographer ;0)

You need to move a little south because we've got great sunshine here near Liverpool :0)

Trying to purchase the TimeLapse app via Chrome and direct in camera and keep getting 'An Internal Error Occurred" - anyone else seen this?

Gutted! My Canon 70-200 F4 arrived today to use with an adapted. Hunts quite a bit but the sharpness and range appears worth it.

Why gutted? While shooting at a high F stop to check for marks on the lens I spotted two marks on the sensor!!! Thought it was the lens at first so tried a different one same marks on shots. Any recommendations as the auto clean function made no difference.

Just fairly regular cleaning I'm afraid. Without the mirror the sensor is pretty exposed to the elements whenever you change glass.

Thanks for the reply, any recommendations?

And always switch off when you change lenses as the static in the sensor attracts dust, and always point the camera down as much as possible when changing...obviously

Found my blower and that helped. I always point body down and change lens in clean environment. Will buy sensor cleaner as back up.

Well, I have discovered the joy of manual focus and focus peaking. I have not focused manually for over 35 years! As the 70-200 Canon was hunting a little I thought I would give it a go. Wow. liberating or what? This is such fun. Pics will follow.

Great Stuff. Hope this tempts you towards old film era lenses too :D

Just on the dust bunny issue. I usually test my cameras before I put them away after a day out by shooting a white door at f22. If any dust shows up I run the cleaning cycle and if necessary give it a blast with a rocket but one thing I do consider is how likely is the dust to show up and if it's worth bothering to do anything about it. On occasions I've noticed something at f22 and gone on to shoot a series of shots gradually opening the aperture and decided not to bother doing anything about it as the dust only shows up beyond the smallest aperture I'm likely to use.

A quick capture today using the Canon 70-200 F4L in manual focus with mild crop for taste with focus on face.
My old girl!

It happens quite often with me as well :)
Usually 70-80 % is deleted. Sometimes even more.
But that's the charm - to try again and find new places.
And to buy new lenses lol :)

Did somebody say new lenses, lol mmmm G Master mmmmmm :)

All the cool dudes are buying cheap old lenses these days :D

Looking around the usual used sellers and also on evil bay there seems to be a bit of a shortage of some old lenses so I assume this is because of the rise of mirrorless and more people buying them. Some of my cheapo lenses seem to be actually rising in value, if you can find them at all.

Has anyone got the Sony FE 28mm F/2 lens? I'm thinking of getting one, but undecided given I already have the Sony 35mm f/2.8. I want something wider but not UWA.

I'm on the lookout for a Sony 35 2.8. If anyone has one going/spots one - holler! :)

That lens seems to get good reviews. I haven't got one. I have a few manual 28mm f2.8's. Are you tempted by a manual 28mm as with the larger dof mf might not be too much of an issue.

I have been considering a canon fd 28mm or 24mm f/2.8 lens. Given most of the time using them I'd be on a tripod should be OK. Some mixed reports on these lenses especially 28mm

I have 28mm FD and 24 and 28mm Zuiko and Rokkor and they're good enough for me for occasional use but I suppose if you are going to be unhappy it's going to be towards the edges of the frame and it's away from the centre that the modern lenses seem to show a clear lead. I posted some 24mm beach shots a few pages back but I don't know if you can tell if they're good enough for you from these small images.

A manual lens might be worth a try though.

I think you're in for a treat when you get one, I think it's a very good lens and the only thing wrong with it is it isn't exactly the same size and weight and f1.8 :D

Some of my 35mm shots earlier in this thread...

Thanks, if you have both canon fd 28mm and 24mm, what one do you prefer?

I'm inclined to go for the 24mm as it's bit more of gap from my 35mm fe Zeiss. Also could crop in s bit on the 24mm if the edges are a little soft.

Update - I went for a 28mm, as ffordes have a number of new unused stock, couldn't resist for £59

I have one and its an excellent lens I got it when I bought my A7ii. However, im undecided on the focal length as I prefer a longer reach for head and shoulder shots. If it goes up for sale I will let you know.

I have the 55 1.8 currently, it's a truly wonderful lens - a compulsory for the A7, imo. I haven't tried the new 85, but I'd like to! Can't quite justify the cost though...

You not tempted to change the 55 for a 35mm ;)
