The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Don't know it at all. Had to resist the temptation to book up near st Ives this time and explore some more. We are hoping to eventually move that way.

I will indeed be taking all my camera gear - so any tips on wear to go would be welcome :)

No problem at all, there's loads of places around Meva, just drop me a message closer to your trip and I'll happily give a few suggestions.

On a different note, does anyone know if it's okay to post blog links on TP?
I've just started one and would like to get a bit of feedback if possible.

Cheers mate I will do.

Re the blog - I'm pretty sure it's fine. Someone in a Fuji thread does it all the time.

Cheers Jonathan. Don't think I'll start a thread on it (just in case it's terrible, the feedbacks terrible and I have to kill myself lol), but if anyone in this thread has 5 minutes free to give my first post a quick read and let me know what they think I'd really appreciate it. It's here - http://cameraandcampervan.co.uk/29th-may-2016-misty-west-cornwall/

Does anyone have issue or a problem with this EVF black out when taking images.

Think the only prob with black out is CAF

Peru gear:

A7r2 with 25 batis, 14mm Samyang, 55 zeis and maybe 85mm batis along with 5d3 attached with the 70-200 f2.8 mk2.

Just need to double check the overal weight of that setup but it looks like i will most likely need my 70-200 and i really cant be asked buying a f4 version when it will only be used for this trip if i get the canon mount.

i wont bother with the sony version of it because i need to use my 5d3 when im in harsh conditions over there ie in the amazons.

Had the a7r2 been weather sealed and robust just like the 5d3 i would ditch the 5d3 and get the f4 sony 70-200 for this trip.

Peru gear:...

Wowza. What a trip... My next trip will be to Thailand but I'm not sure when, maybe the back end of this year, maybe next year.

When I go I'm going to keep an eye out of the f******g monkey down the road from my GF's family that went for me last time and if I get the chance and no one's looking he's off to monkey heaven.

There are rumours of a serious large sensor mirrorless camera on the way from Nikon. If true, and maybe it's only a matter of time before both Nikon and Canon make better efforts in mirrorless, it'll be interesting to see what they do both body and lens wise and how they'll compare to the Sony APS-C and FF systems. Competition is good and a good Canikon system could spur Sony on to better things too.

About time they gave people the option. Although maybe they have been watching the likes of Sony and Fuji and will take the best from both. A little late to the party though.

It'll be interesting to see if they can move focus performance on as their V1 (or whatever it's called) performes well, so I believe.

I'm pretty sure that once either Nikon or Canon get serios about CSC's the other will quickly follow although I expect Sony to fight hard.

It's the DL 1" been announced for a while. Look good. I think canikon has waited for the tech to be what their customers expect, no point in doing the legwork when you're still selling more than everyone else. F or ef mirror less ff would be pretty great.

Yup. The vs focus well

Look forward to it. Need more competition.

I don't think this rumour is the DL1, that's known and this rumour seems to be of another upcoming large sensor camera. There seems to be little info atm except the something may be coming.

Time will tell although the earth quake may push things back or we may get an announcement and long lead time.

Actually, maybe a worry with Nikon's recent plight is can they do a quality new product. Time will tell.

Nikon are doing a massive cost cutting initiative at the moment so hearing about a new large sensor product is surprising.
Also I believe the term large sensor doesn't mean a FX sensor Mirrorless is on the way.
From what I've seen online, it's more likely a updated version of their small mirrorless lineup but with a larger sensor but not DX large.

TBH I'd like to see some competition for the A7 line. Not that I'd switch as I'm reasonably happy but for the sake of competition and to see if Nikon or anyone else brings something new... like a leap forward in focus tracking, although that's not something I use, or summot else...

If there had been offerings from both Sony and Nikon at the time of the A7 launch even though I'd not describe myself as badge conscious I'd probably have leaned towards Nikon as I used their cameras for a long long time before switching to Canon DSLR's.

No doubt we wont have to wait too long to find out what if anything is in the pipeline.

I too used to be a hardcore Nikon fanboy, now I'm a Sony fanboy.... Nikon won't be around in the future if their profits keep dwindling.
Nikon doesn't really have any other revenue streams to support their DSLR business which could prove troublesome for them in the future.

Lots of Japanese companies just wouldn't exist anymore if they were British, they'd have been long gone but under the Japanese systems and culture they just seem to struggle on disastrous year after disastrous year.

I could see Panasonic or even Olympus, Fuji or Sony just giving up and doing a Samsung and dropping or selling off their camera divisions but as you point out Nikon doesn't really have anywhere else to go so maybe that together with the Japanese reluctance to see anything go bust and shut up shop and their willingness to bare staggering losses actually makes them more likely to be about at least in the medium term than some of the other larger electronic companies who could just walk away from photography tomorrow and keep on happily trading mobile phones or vacuum cleaners or whatever they're into.

Really?

Its products include cameras, camera lenses, binoculars, microscopes, ophthalmic lenses, measurement instruments, and the steppers used in the photolithography steps of semiconductor fabrication, of which it is the world's second largest manufacturer. The companies held by Nikon form the Nikon Group.

You might have heard of their owners, a little known Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi Corporation (三菱商事株式会社, Mitsubishi Shōji Kabushiki-gaisha?) is Japan's largest trading company (sogo shosha) and a member of the Mitsubishi keiretsu. Mitsubishi Corporation employs over 60,000 people and has seven business segments, including finance, banking, energy, machinery, chemicals and food.

Mitsubushi is owned by nikon? Wtf I didn't know!

Just tried the f4 70-200 Sony. Focuses bloody fast when I tested it on the a7 mk 2. I'm really tempted now

I used mine at a charity event last night, it's wicked ain't it.
Hopefully the 70-200mm f2.8 GM is as good as the f4.

No it's the other way around, Mitsubushi own Nikon, it makes little difference tbh, if a subsidiary company ain't making money the owners have two options, inject more money into it or sell it off. ;)

Canikon still have the largest market shares by miles, something an ex guru should know really. Every business has ups and downs and cost cutting is inevitable. Nikon are still releasing high end cameras and lenses, Sony fe is miniscule in comparison and they've pretty much shown what they think of DSLR / dslt and finally a mount lens users.

Read about Sony's losses recently?

The Japanese electronics company said Tuesday the unit would book a ¥40 billion ($366 million) operating loss for the fiscal year ending in March 2017, widening from a loss of ¥29.2 billion a year earlier.

but... Sony imaging profits are reportedly up and sheer bloody-mindedness will probably keep them going for a while at least until they achieve their aim of being No.2. After they get there they could just say "Right, we've done it chaps. Time to sell off the camera gear and get back into TV's." :D

I don't see Nikon (and certainly not Sony) going anywhere anytime soon and any slight fears for their future wouldn't put me off buying a Nikon product but if we're talking cameras I might hold off until they get their house in order. I don't usually give much weight to internet panic about faulty kit but when it's widely known that a company is getting a worrying number of returns it could be time to hold off at least until they sort themselves and their products out.

If Nikon's do make a FF mirrorless system that is better than Sony's I can always become a Nikon guru lol ;)

I don't think they will get it right straight off the bat. Perhaps a second generation mark ii would be the one to look out for. Then you'll have to get those Sony tattoos removed @Rizvan
