The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Just one question in terms of the really high mp count on the a7r2, is it best to be tripod mounted or is handheld perfectly fine? I remember talking to someone from canon that highmp sensor cmeras need it to get the best out of them, is that true?

Haven't had a problem with the a7rii or d810 handheld.

Well they left the Slowny for the brilliant Nikon
I left the so-called Brickon to move to Sony, no regrets, can't see me ever moving back to a DSLR.
I've heard people moan about Sony QC issues but to add balance, look at how many recalls and problems Nikon has has with their bodies, even now they are on their 3rd problem with the D750 which isn't a old body.
They also had a problem with the D600, rather than admitting it, they released a D610 and fixed older D600's as and when.
AF fine tuning my D7000 & lenses drove me nuts!
I totally agree that DSLR's have some advantages but those are slowly being addressed in mirrorless alternatives and eventually I believe Sony will crack the Pro market, I'd say another 2-3 years.
Everybody has a preference in body/manufacturer and that's great for competition and growth.
I may buy a Brickon if my requirements need it, at the moment I'm just a Sony GAS whore! Lol ;)

Yup, Sony's qc in terms of cameras is pretty good (I've said this before)... and again the lenses have as many issues as others. They'll build up their rep but in all my years of buying Sony (many more than those that feel the need to preach!) theres still an issue with lenses. For some reason we get tons of great cameras but for some unknown reason they miss the whole point of owning an ilc. I see things slowly improving though.

lol, if they are their and I'm able to try on my camera I'll get a few shots :)

Not lenses I'm interested in buying, but I would like to see the difference between the 24-70 2.8 and my f4 which is what I'll have with me.
Yup definitely be interested on your thoughts as the GM zoom's are calling to me lol.
I'm pretty satisfied with the Zeiss Batis primes :)

If they let me put the lenses on my camera I'll Dropbox the Raw files. Portrait is not my thing but if I take the same images with both lenses it might be of some use I guess

I don't think I'd let quality issues put me off buying anything from the usual big names but any worries might lead me to buy from a good UK dealer rather than someone else. At the mo I can't remember having to return anything bought new.

D810's had an issue too. Something about long exposure noise I think.
Will be interesting to see if any problems are reported by the first adopters of the d5 and d500.

As mp counts rise I can only see more problems being reported as todays top end and future gear will let us see faults we couldn't see so easily before.

I sold all my MFT Olympus gear to move to FF. I was torn between Sony or Nikon. I went to Nikon D750 with a 24-120mm F4. The lot has gone back the focus was very soft and im reluctant to micro adjust focus on a camera and lens costing £1800! Back to the drawing board for me. Now Sony....

If you really want no focus errors manual focus is the way to go :D Need time to MF though.

I have the a7ii awesome camera if you don't need the massive amount of megapixels

I have the A7, it's pretty good if you don't need lightening fast AF or the in body IS and don't mind the ergonomics :D

It's fine handheld I found I get more success with this and Olympus than I did with my dads d800e always very sharp

Without IBIS how will higher mega pixel DSLR cameras mitigate shutter-shock?
I've been told the Nikon d800/810 and Canon 5DS/R both are less forgiving than the Sony A7RII's. :)
The original Sony A7R also was less forgiving.
