The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Maybe a little price gouging, but they also have higher costs to cover due to smaller market share, and generally FE lenses are high quality. If you compare like for like the prices are higher but not too much.

As for pancakes, panasonic have the advantage of a tiny sensor, and tiny sensors only need tiny glass. If you're going to compare mirrorless to DSLR lenses, you have to take into account the difference in sensor>lens distance. The 28mm f2 or 35mm f2.8 are small enough lenses considering that they're good quality, reasonably fast, and unlike the panasonic have to cover a decent sized sensor.

yep the 35mm and 28mmare great lenses but ££££ sucks tbh

its £383 on amazon not pocket change tbh.... canon 50mm 1.8 is well under £100

I haven't read the previous 250 odd pages. What are you guys using for lenses ?
I got a fright when I looked at cost of Sony lenses, I think they caught Leica pricing sickness.
I'm slumming it with adaptors and legacy(ish) lenses.

Bought ChrisM/Rizvan's cast-off....
I don't understand why the primes need to so expensive. Is it price gouging?
I can't see Nikon/ Canon/ Panasonic/ Olympus / Pentax et al not making any money on their lenses. They have a budget, mid and top end.
Sony just seems to have proceed them top-end, then uber expensive, G range.

Where are the pancake lenses like the Pana 17mm, Canon 40mm ?

I only have three Sony lenses, the 35mm f2.8 and 55mm f1.8 which are both outstanding lenses IMO and the kit lens which I've never used other than to see if it works but it seems very good for a normal range kit lens.

There's a lot of whinging and TBH borderline trolling about prices but I tend to agree with Ray that once you engage your brain and look at the quality you're getting the lenses are reasonable to a bit expensive when compared to the competition rather than a total rip off. However, I do think that some of the quality offered will only be visible when pixel peeping, cropping and /or printing large and viewing very closely. When I first got my 55mm f1.8 I tested it against my legacy 50's, Minolta, Zuiko and FD f1.4 and it crushed them all to the point of embarrassment and I although I didn't do any side by side comparisons (as I'd sold them...) think it's also better than my Sigma 50mm f1.4 (not the Art one) and Canon 50mm f2.5. The lesser lenses can however make lovely pictures and IMO it's only towards the edges of the frame and when pixel peeping that the Sony lenses show their superiority.

I just cant see who the a6 would be aimed at tbh...I don't think they have the lens depth to offer another body... just my thoughts tho

I'd never really shot too much at 50mm. Once I bought the Sony zeiss 55 it soon became my favourite lens. It's that good. It's been an absolute dream to use especially wide open.

Dont be daft, Sonys motto is who gives a F*** about lenses, give them more cameras. Always has been. They already have a cheap body, the A7, they shouldve released cheap lenses for that ages ago.

Ill be told Im negative, but thats the way it is.
How about I stop saying you're negative and call you a broken record? :D

Just like Sony have more bodies than lenses surely you have more cameras than photos theses days :D

50mm was my most used lens for some time and still probably is for people pictures but more recently I've found 35mm more to my liking for general shots and pictures with people in them, rather than pictures of people.

yep agreed I rate the 55mm as high as I can.... all I'm trying to get across ( not very clearly tbh) is surely this a6 would be aimed at photographers who want a cheaper ff body that's all well and good but its bnot a cheap body if you have to attach a £600 lens.. so my hope is they release some cheaper lenses for the a6 ....

Just thought of a little argument for 50mm and against 35mm if a person is the main focal point of the image... GF thinks that when the photographer is closer it's going to be a close up picture with every flaw in her skin visible... and needs to be told that it's a wide angle lens and no, every pore will not be visible :D

How about I say youre a hypocrite? You keep banging on about wanting a small 35mm 1.8 and the same thing I said, they need some cheaper lenses... and are negative about every other system. Please, spare us the usual lengthy reply.

No, I use my cameras, unlike you

Sorry I was just rambling about my love for the glass :)

Yes to the cheap body and cheap lenses but personally I'd look at an A6 as a more compact quality body to stick a relatively expensive compact prime on :D

Twist, I don't know why you do this, the apparent aggression and the picking and trolling and personal digs. I really don't get it and I have to keep reminding myself that I'm chatting to an adult not a 10 year old throwing a paddy...

The reason for my lengthy replies, as I've said many times, is I'm polite and I like to try and answer points although with you I'm sorely tempted to give up and hit the ignore button. So here goes with the lengthy...

No, I'm not negative about every other system and I doubt you'll find much evidence of any negativity from me, not repeated negativity and not in thread after thread.

Yes, a compact 35mm f1.8 would be lovely and I expect many other people might be interested too :D

And yes, I do use my cameras when I have the time, it's my main hobby but as I'm a full time 24/7 carer trying to juggle a love life too (hopefully getting married in the new year) I can go weeks without taking a picture. Actually I go weeks without having an hour to myself before midnight. So what? When I get a few hours to myself I'll be out with my camera and I'm not in a click count competition with anyone :D

Dunno if I'm any good at taking pictures but at least I've posted a few in this thread :D

Why I do what? Reply to a thread, you have a go, I have a go back and you cant take it? No, your lengthy replies say the same thing, over and over again, about your situation, they dont tell anyone else anything factual when they are looking for a comparison. In fact they misinform.

Do you think youre allowed to make comparisons of one system vs another and nobody else can? Constantly going on about why you think your systems are better than Fuji and DSLRs, now I wouldnt mind that if you didnt slam anyone that says anything you perceive as negative in this thread. That makes you a hypocrite.

Personal digs? How so? Like you saying I have more cameras than photos and calling me a broken record? Where is my personal insult exactly in the message you replied to? Again, youre not in a click count competition so why say I have more cameras than photos?

Oh, another dig but apparently you dont make those. Ive posted and post images elsewhere, I dont need to post in this thread. Dont try and make your posts less offensive by using emoticons.

Lets end this, Im Mr. Negative and you are Mr. Hypocrite. Please put me back on your ignore list, I'm tired of you picking my posts out. Go back to the post I made initially, you might find some likes, that generally means people agree ;) ... Best of luck with the wedding and congrats.

next lens for me is 600mm SIgma with dock and MC11, just sat on the fence as to sport of contemporary, sports the wise choice but its heavy and i need to handhold a lot of Motorbike shoots, am i gonna notice the difference in quality.... mmm

i like the 6300 but its too costly at the moment, I'm after a compact and would love a RX1r but I'm dreaming, so I'm waiting for Panasonics new TZ100 it was either that or Sonys HV90, didn't want the RX100 ive had the MK3 it was ok but i want reach too.

True, Sony should focus their energy on new glass rather than relying on Zeiss, it wouldn't be so bad if Sigma and Tamron were committed to developing glass but I'd suggest Sigma's launch of an adaptor points to them not actively working on native FE adaptions of their lenses just now.

Welcome, lovely photo. I'd like an A7s for astro photos, 3 stops cleaner than the A7 ?

Not sure exactly on the stops for photo, but its certainly very clean in video even at 10K ISO. It seems much better at high ISO video than high ISO photos for some reason.

Be good to see a modern interpretation of Tamron's Adaptall. Decent glass with interchangeable mounts.
Imagine if Leica, Sony, Zeiss, Canon, Nikon, Olympus pitched in to a common standard.

I think Zeiss Batis lenses are coming through now, LCE, ukdigital and WEX have them in stock apparently. :)

they dont want too, thats why we have all these mounts :/

not sure why the manual lens makers couldnt do a new universal standard, maybe fear of cheap chinese adapters ruining the experience?

Wouldn't have thought China made adapters would be a problem, the choice of cheap and cheerful or properly designed and made is great.

Just bought the 28mm and 55mm Sony native lenses :-)

From someone that has gone from A7r to D810.

The Voigtlander 15mm lens arrived today too. Waiting for the LTM to nex adapted now.
Nice one, poor someone, could have kept the lenses and gone to a A7RII ;) lol instead he/she has gone down the Brickon route.

Just one question in terms of the really high mp count on the a7r2, is it best to be tripod mounted or is handheld perfectly fine? I remember talking to someone from canon that highmp sensor cmeras need it to get the best out of them, is that true?

You have IBIS so that helps a lot.

He didn't get on with the A7, preferred the Nikon. So far I much prefer the Nikon way. Hopefully that'll change once I get used to the A7.

Well they left the Slowny for the brilliant Nikon

I've been a Nikonite since 93, before that Olympus. I've still got too many cameras according to swmbo. Though I did sell the D700 and a clutch of lenses to get in the Sony camp.
