Honestly I don't see the fuss about the weight unless these peak design slide strap does wonder

you'll be just fine then won't you.
I've quite happily walked for most of the day with a d810 and a 150-600 on a black rapid. its the only way to go when big glass is being used imo.
 
I guess if it wasn't for these straps how would we all manage
 
I haven't read the previous 250 odd pages. What are you guys using for lenses ?
I got a fright when I looked at cost of Sony lenses, I think they caught Leica pricing sickness.
I'm slumming it with adaptors and legacy(ish) lenses.

Bought ChrisM/Rizvan's cast-off....

Unfortunately Sony FE lenses can be pricey, if I had to pick one or two lenses and I was restricted budget wise, it would be the Sony FE 55mm f1.8 and the 28-70mm kit lens if possible.

I am using the following lenses at the moment:-

Zeiss Batis 25mm f2.0
Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8
Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8
Sony Zeiss 24-70mm f4 OSS
Sony G 70-200mm f4 OSS

I've heard of some QC issues on some of the Sony lenses but not sure about the Zeiss 55mm f1.8.
The Zeiss 55mm f1.8 is a must have if your ok with the focal length. It's one of the best 50/55mm lenses available.

I'm sure there's the odd bad copy just as there is with any lens, but I've never really heard of any complaints. It's probably the best all-round ~50mm lens in the world though. Image quality-wise it blows away any of the Nikon/Canon options, sitting somewhere between the Zeiss Otus and the Sigma Art, but in a much smaller package.

I moved from a Nikon 50mm f1.4G, and I can confidently say that the 55mm FE is as sharp wide open as the Nikon is at f5.6-f8 (and lab tests back that up too).

Another vote for the 55, its expensive but its a great lens. Ive seen reports of decentering and something to do with aperture blades not being even when stopped down. Ive had 2x copies and both were excellent though. The Canon 50 L does f1.2 and the Sigma ART imo is bigger but better than the 55.

TBF the CaNikon 50 1.4s are known to be poor performers, even the Nikon 50 1.8g (£135) is better than the 50 1.4. and Im sure they could be better at a £650 pricepoint.

If anyone is interested in getting an 85mm Batis below RRP and without a pre-order wait, they should check out the classified section.

My discounted pre-order lens turned up so I have two. I wouldn't feel comfortable sending back the one I've been using, and if I send back this one, someone misses out on a cheaper lens. It seems a win-win to sell this one on instead of returning it.

If nobody here wants it, it's just as easy for me to stick it on ebay and it'd no doubt sell at around £1000 anyway.

Ah I see, I thought you had 2 brand new lenses delivered not that you had used one of them. Makes sense.
 
New owner checking in. Picked up an A7S this week primarily for video, but it has impressed me for stills as well.

Still learning the body, but here is one of the first candid portraits. Shot at ISO 1250, handheld using Canon FD 50mm 1.4.

Welcome, the A7S is a true low-light ISO monster for video.
Will you be shooting 4K to a Ninja recorder? :)
 
Probably be a manual focus prime made in China but designed in Europe. Seems popular for fe these days.

I had a Nikon 85mm f1.8, loved it. Used it for more than 20 years.

You're selling it for a good price, still rich for my blood though. I need to get the 55mm first, as I'll use that more.
 
Color-Skopar 35mm f2.5 turned up today after I paid the ransom note for it. It's LTM so I need to wait for the LTM to NEX adaptor to turn up.
The lens is tiny.

Been trying out MF with my Nikon 20mm f2.8, found that infinity isn't infinity, it's at 2m mark ! The adaptor is too long ?

I'm loving it. Super sharp wide open, great bokeh, and that classic focal length for portraits. I think it's even quashed my lust for Sony's new lens (...for now). I used to have Nikon's 85mm too back when I had a D800 and I liked that, but I don't recall being as impressed as I am with the Batis (although maybe I'm just a better photographer now than I used to be ;))

Rich price maybe, but you'll not find a new (or even used) one as cheap anywhere else, and probably not without an unknown pre-order wait either.

has anyone seen the a6 mockup etc on alpha rumours.... surely they needed cheaper lenses if releasing a cheaper body?????

Dont be daft, Sonys motto is who gives a F*** about lenses, give them more cameras. Always has been. They already have a cheap body, the A7, they shouldve released cheap lenses for that ages ago.

Ill be told Im negative, but thats the way it is.

I don't understand why the primes need to so expensive. Is it price gouging ?

I can't see Nikon/ Canon/ Panasonic/ Olympus / Pentax et al not making any money on their lenses. They have a budget, mid and top end.
Sony just seems to have proceed them top-end, then uber expensive, G range.

Where are the pancake lenses like the Pana 17mm, Canon 40mm ?

Maybe a little price gouging, but they also have higher costs to cover due to smaller market share, and generally FE lenses are high quality. If you compare like for like the prices are higher but not too much.

As for pancakes, panasonic have the advantage of a tiny sensor, and tiny sensors only need tiny glass. If you're going to compare mirrorless to DSLR lenses, you have to take into account the difference in sensor>lens distance. The 28mm f2 or 35mm f2.8 are small enough lenses considering that they're good quality, reasonably fast, and unlike the panasonic have to cover a decent sized sensor.

just thinking whats the point in having an even cheaper ff camera if the lenses are more than the camera lol ......
